  1. It's only a small bit of news in the news section Mackem. It said that the new floating platform traps were particularly effective. No mention of trap type. No mention of terriers or hounds either and back then the mag always gave recognition to the use of terriers.
  2. I got a lovely present of some old copies of "Hounds" magazine from the '80s of a gentleman recently and in one there's a report on the Coypu cull. It says 31,000 Coypu were killed between 1981 and April 11th, 1987. This was carried out by 24 trappers, 3 foremen and 1 oversee manager. The last kill was at Wyboston, near St. Neots in Cambridgeshire.
  3. Is that add not discriminating against tall people ??
  4. Oh, and it's easy to say you'll make a fortune as Christmas. Every butcher has nightmares coming up to Christmas. It's a horrible time of the year for them.
  5. The shop where I done my apprenticeship (and butchering is a trade with a 4 year apprenticeship) in the late 80s was doing 14 cattle, 40 lambs and 15 pigs a week. Now it's doing 2 cattle a week. A sign of the times I suppose. But there's no reason a small shop wouldn't support a man and his family. One of the big secrets would be the quality of your meat. There's a huge difference between lower grade meat and high grade meat. Another secret would be to sell to suit your customers. There's no point in trying to just sell the more expensive cuts if your location is in a low class area. Like
  6. To compare soccer to hurling is like comparing a terrier who can kill a rat (soccer) to a terrier who can kill a fox (hurling) . Without a doubt hurling is the most skillful field sport there is as well as being recognised as the fastest. You never see a bad game of hurling , as for soccer?????????????
  7. Sorry to hear that Phil, I know you've always talked hunting and not boasting. Hope you got justice for whatever injustice was done to you.
  8. Nice one but think I might have declined on the pink gun slip, LOL.
  9. Still haven't tasted a Woodcock this year yet and last Saturday watched hounds drawing a covert and the Woodcock left it from every direction. Better have one this weekend.
  10. Not the answer I expected from you GL, I thought you be asking "where's the chillis?" or " why isn't it bar-b-qued ?".
  11. Is it true he was caught with two blades in prison ?
  12. Would I be going off subject by saying Nice Lurcher and can be a great cross. Only on here could a photo of a lovely lurcher result in grown men talking about skinny jeans and womens tights
  13. This thread is still going great after 4 years, keep up the good work Blaise and thank you for educating us on your sport.
  14. Nice one. In an ideal world your pups have got homes for life and you've made some friends for life.
  15. When I seen the title to your thread GL I presumed you'd meant weight not numbers, LOL. I envisaged the biggest barbie ever. Food looks great and tasty.
  16. LOL, it's just about the only way of life where we can thank our Grandfather for getting us addicted to something, and thank him for it.
  17. You know something Jimbo, whether you got 10 foxes or blanked your photos speak volumes as to why we love our sport. Getting out and enjoying the countryside is a huge part of why we enjoy hunting, .
  18. I first seen pictures of American terriermen using them nearly 20 years ago and wondered back then were they any good and I presumed it was the hard ground. But seeing yours I reckon they wouldn't be as good as a proper shovel with the right man behind it. But then again, terriermen over this side of the globe are still trying to re-invent the wheel and usually they come up with something that weighs a ton and doesn't shift to much soil.
  19. Is that the biggest tongs of all time, LOL ? I can't remember what you call them but are those post hole diggers as good as a shovel ?
  20. Fair play. The working terrier of all breeds would be in a much better place if everyone had your thinking. But, thread carefully as there's a lot of chancers out there who see the Border as a money maker. Choose carefully.
  21. Truth be told there's about 50 books here on horse racing and I've only read a couple of them. Because I've met plenty of trainers and jockeys I don't particularly want to read about folk I meet on a weekly basis. Nor do I want to read a book that's obviously biased against Coolmore. Everyone knows that Coolmore is a conveyor belt for horses and workers and that the horse comes first. But if you go down to the smallest stable in the country the horse comes first too. The way it should be IMO. Does the book mention the good Coolmore does too and how it's one of Ireland biggest ambassadors
  22. No doubt about it Jack is a rising star who we haven't seen the best of yet, (mind you we said that about Bryan Cooper) and I don't know if he'll be another A.P. but he will go to the top.
  23. My daughter works in the bloodstock industry and does it all for the love of horses. Last week she had two days off, she went to the sales !!! It's an industry that employs thousands in Ireland and no anti journalists or authors are going to damage that. Just like Jack Kennedy in that clip where he risks breaking his neck they all do it for the love of horses, not the money. How many people can say they go to work for the love of the job not the money ??
  24. Proper sportsmen, getting just over 100 quid a ride, and he still won. Compare that to your over paid kissing each other soccer players who get £££££££££££££££'s for falling over when there's a breeze.
