  1. Dope...............sorry I mean nope, it doesn't count.
  2. So who had the first fox of 2018 ???? I was supposed to go up North to friends (who had a good day) but a hard dig on Saturday left me with a f****d up back so just took the lurcher out this morning with full confidence I'd see old Charlie out hunting. To the West the moon was setting and to the East the sun was rising so a more perfect time to be out couldn't happen. Not so, plenty of Hares ensured a tired lurcher with a bruised eye brought home with nothing in the bag. So which of ye will lay claim to the first game accounted for in this new year ?
  3. Eddie, maybe I've asked you this before but have you read the book "The Rabbit Industry in Ireland" ? Released last year. Would open your eyes to what the rabbit did for this country and how a few selfish men destroyed it and then along comes VHD and here we go again. It's a very concise book.
  4. They're on here Tomo, so you're now f****d .
  5. A very happy New Year to all who make those little headaches we call terriers a very big part of their lives and best wishes to all of you and your families for 2018. Take Care.
  6. Good thinking, the fire works will light up the sky and show you where the fish are lying. At last a reason for fireworks.
  7. Just in case I ever visit Mauritius have you spelt that correctly...........Golden Moon........is that right ?????????? LOL.
  8. Took around 250 rabbits of a farm 5 or 6 years ago and several were black, a few were blue and white and a couple were white. This farm had a big enough river one side and the other sides had busy roads going by so I always put the colours down to inbreeding.
  9. Tried a few handy earths before hunting and the bitch swam a river, went to ground under an Ash tree resulting in collar failing and a 5 hour hard dig. Missed the meet and crippled with my back to day. Getting old, LOL. Always nice to find new earths but there's a time and a place.
  10. Got the mother a lamb for Christmas and asked my butcher to leave the cutlets in racks and if I know my mother she'll do something similar . Looks delicious. Happy New Year.
  11. I presume Marlin tastes similar to Swordfish ? My sister lives in Mauritius and came home for Christmas and brought some smoked Marlin with her. Have to say it was so light and delicate it was one of the tastiest fish I've ever eaten.
  12. Found a new one yesterday morning , wish I hadn't now.
  13. 3 rabbits in Dublin Peter ? That's 3 more than there is in Meath. Send me a picture of one next time, I've forgotten what the humble bunny looks like,
  14. GL, you're lucky that food is your thing, if it was alcohol you'd have to be on here from an inter-net friendly re-hab,
  15. I think some of the stuff Pabs wants is usually sold by blacks, I could be wrong though.
  16. Good for you. I spent it following a good pack who earned their reward on top. A lovely day.
  17. Any political party with half a brain would know that to mess with fieldsports in N.I. would be a big mistake. They tried it in the South and it cost a government an election. But the likes of the Greens ,who are not known for common sense, will always try and be vocal on the issue. Any hunting folk who have nothing else to do that day should show up and support that hunt and show the media a small little number of antis squashed in to some alley way or shop front where they're barely noticeable.
  18. Good to see you back Stephen and I hope you'll keep on board and contribute now and again and give David my apologies as he wrote me a long letter a while back which I meant to sit down and reply to (on paper, I hate writing long PMs as they usually disappear on me) over the Christmas but never got around too. Take care.
  19. You're a patient man. A lot of lads would bring their pup for the car ride and the hustle and bustle of a dig to educate them but when the pup wants to see some action a lot of lads just can't help themselves. Fair play.
  20. That could be the one I was trying to think of. If it is it's a good one.
  21. The name Donaldson springs to mind regarding that well known book, I might be wrong though.
  22. Anyone I met who knew Bert said he never really had what could be called his own line. The terrier type known nowadays as the white terriers from Cork carries the blood of Bert Gripton Jack Russells sent over to Ireland. The one thing that's always fascinated me about him (and I've spoke to many who knew and hunted with him.) was that he made his reputation as a great terrierman by being a terrierman. Not by how great his terriers were or how many he sold or where in the world he sent them or what shows he won or judged , but, by being a man who could bolt or dig a lot foxes, badgers
