  1. About an inch of snow here too and todays meet is in a beautiful part of the country so should be a good day but the seasons are fecked up. Several lads have already bumped into cubs and some lads have ended their season.
  2. The buzzard without a doubt is doing more harm than good. But a lot of our pheasants disappeared this year after we let them into fields of cabbages and sprouts so they had cover to hide from the buzzards. Foxes were not an issue nor where the buzzards. But one morning when there was a hard frost I was talking to the farmer. He was spraying the crops with slug pellets. I asked was there a need as the frost would keep the slugs back. He said he regularly put out the pellets as you can never be too careful. The water in the wheel ruts were full of pellets and the neighbouring fields had pel
  3. That fox has a massive mask but he's lean, to be expected at this time of year. If he'd made it to Summer he'd be a 20 pounder. Fair play to the wee terrier.
  4. And then they wonder why the Glen was considered a breed in danger a few years ago !!!!!!! Of all the Irish breeds IMO they were the most practical in conformation for work in the country and it's a pity they are now rare. IMO a 50 lb wheaten is to much dog for the job they do whereas a 30 - 35 lb Glen was much more sporting but that's just my opinion. Seeing a picture there of a working West Highland White reminded me of a terrier I did a LOT of digging to in the late 80s ,early 90s. She was a Cairn / Wheaten cross over a Jack Russell and she looked like a wheaten coloured Ca
  5. I was going to say sweet breads too but glad GingerBeard made a fool of himself before I did, the ejit. What is it ?
  6. I bet when they pulled his head out it sounded like someone opening a bottle of champagne.
  7. You got lucky Lad, a drain can be a terrierman's worst nightmare . Well done that terrier.
  8. Nope, met him last Summer and he's got out of them. But I do hope the outcross he made is still running in the lines of KC Glens. Kennel Club breeds need more breeders like him who have a bit of foresight. They mightn't be in the trouble they are if they did.
  9. Here in Ireland I would say that 100% of every terrier registered by the IKC was either a worker or it's parents were if you asked the owner. If you asked the owner of every working terrier in Ireland was their terrier K.C. registered 0% would say yes ,although some might hit you with a shovel, but you'd deserve that for asking such a question. In saying that.....................I did see some Glen Of Imalls about 15 years ago who were registered and their owner asked me to try them for him. Which I did and to be honest they showed prospect but I suggested an outcross,
  10. Farmers have always sprayed potatoes with a weedkiller that the soil neutralizes , I think it's called gramoxzone or similar. But when the weather suits blight, wet and warm, they'll spray with an insecticide several times a week and that's poison. As for the slug pellets ? They even scattered 20 foot or so into neighbouring fields and to see all the surface water full of them was sickening especially as slug pellets are poisonous to dogs, so I'll presume they're poisonous to most animals. And the veggies think they're helping planet earth, LOL.
  11. I had a Rook a few years ago with white wings. It had been thrown out of the nest and it's top mandible was damaged. I had it in the kitchen and was feeding it canned dog food. It got to know the sound of my van and knew I was coming and would start screaming which would start all the dogs howling so I put it down. I was telling a fancier a while later and he told me I probably would have got a pretty penny for it. I'd fed a valuable bird to my ferret
  12. In the last few months I've seen fields of potatoes being sprayed for blight 3 times a week. A neighbouring farmer told me he was going to start growing his own as all the spraying was making him sick and I seen a farmer spraying cabbages and sprouts with slug pellets while there was a hard frost. I asked him would the frost not keep the slugs back. He said you couldn't take the chance. The water in the drills were full of slug pellets and I rang a friend I knew was going to shoot these fields and told him to stay away. It might also explain where all our pheasants went that we released i
  13. I only watched it for 15 minutes so it's not fair for me to give an opinion on it but I truly hope it was better than the few minutes I seen of that arsehole shooting a Crocodile. I know that big game hunting can be sporting but that arsehole knew he had a camera on him and that was not sport.
  14. That's the trick with terriers, mental stimulation. Happy terriers work harder and a mill is for wind. Wind is something a terrier needs but at the end of the day any half fit terrier should be able for a 3 or 4 hour dig. The secret is does the terrier want to stay and a mill wont make a terrier stay if he doesn't want too. Plenty of mill work will also produce a highly strung terrier and highly strung terriers are pains in the arses IMO.
  15. That Jigsaw, wouldn't appeal to me for a second. Too artificial but yet I love Sheppard's Huts because of their historical interest and they're probably about the same room space.https://www.irishshepherdshuts.com/
  16. Handlining in Eire is legal in saltwater, illegal in freshwater. My father used to handline for Conger and when I was young he caught a 20 pound Conger in Wicklow harbour on a handline. It was near 5 foot long and my Granny cooked it. The tackle was a builders line and a six foot wire trace with 4 or 5 swivels on it and the hook was a shark hook. Can't remember the bait though.
  17. I know plenty about threadmills and IMO they don't suit terriers. Ask herself would she walk them and that way you'll end up with fit, happy terriers and a fit misses. A win win situation.
  18. I had a funny feeling this thread wouldn't be tyre related. Looks delicious though, the type of puncture you'd look forward to
  19. So if any off you chaps were to place an add on one of those sites what would your add or profile say ?
  20. Onwards and upwards as they say. Keep them at it and well done.
