  1. Sounds a good day hily, but my bitch is still only 7 month so maybe next time. Hope all goes well. Dave.
  2. Nice looking bitch, good luck with her training. Dave.
  3. It would depend very much on the dog, my Lurcher will retrieve runners that have not been killed cleanly, but if they are stone dead he looses interest, but as for the hunting and trainability of the whippet it should do a job for you. Dave.
  4. I've had a fair few over the years and all situations and circumstances are different, the best answer I can give, without trying to be flippant is ...Find somewhere that has a lot and shoot straight! I guess i asked for that Thanks for the replys Dave.
  5. I have shot a few squirrels with the shotgun but never taken any good bags and just wondering if anyone has any tips or advise for taking good numbers of Squirrels. Dave.
  6. Yeh there is a few about, but we havent been able to get close enough with the shot guns, i think we will have to get a rifle in and have a look out with the lamp. Dave.
  7. Nice looking bitch, what do you work her on. Dave.
  8. I was out early a few weeks ago, only the second time we have shot at this farm and the the cover is unbelievably thick, its all real deep Holy and thorn hedges and big wood piles, last time we only had the Cocker cross but as good as she is, she just dosnt have the spirit to charge through the thick stuff. So i was asked to take Ted my Terrier, now he is a bushing machine and the thicker the better but he dose have a tendency to get away from me on open land, which isnt a problem when bushing with the Lurchers, but obously frustrating when shooting. So we were now looking for Pheasants, but
  9. Had a quick look out with Pointer last night, we went round a farm we havent visited in about a year and it was like a totaly different place, there was a few good sized ones about but it will take a few visits until we can cover all the exit routes. Pointer had his Terrier Red and Tess the GWP Lurcher and i had my Terrier Ted. Sorry the pics are so crap, only had my phone with me. Told you they were crap, will take the camera next time or we might have a look day time with the smoker. Dave.
  10. It depends on how offtern you work your dog, if its only once a week i wouldnt change the routine at all, as any well conditiond dog can cope with it. But if you are working them 3 or more times a week i would start putting in extra meals. Dave.
  11. Cracking looking pups mate, good luck with them. Dave.
  12. Yes you are going about it the write way Wes, try to get friendly with the Keepers and ask them for some Vermin Shooting, which is a help to them and excellent sport in its own write. The other thing to do is knock on some farmers doors, if its not keepered land you might have a chance, good farms that dont already have any shooting on there, are few and far between, but if you dont ask you dont get. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Dave.
  13. Enjoyed that Matt, well done, good write up. Every shooting trip you pick up tips for the next, thats what make it so exciting and that was some trip, i love a mixed bag Dave.
  14. Pups look to be coming on well Baz. Good luck with them mate. Dave.
  15. Well said H. Thats the difference between an all round gundog that faces alot of Vermin and a Gundog that only retrieves Game. Dave.
  16. My old GWP didnt care if they were alive or dead, he used to enjoy dispatching them for me, but he never was that soft mouthed, he caught a few on the ground as well in his day. Dave.
  17. Good luck for the week end, hope you get some good pics. Dave.
  18. What breed do you hunt with eddie and do you find it useful the dog hunting them up or do you only use them foe retrieving. Dave.
  19. Just wondered if anyone uses there Gundogs on Squirrels, either hunting up and treeing or just retrieving. Dave.
  20. Cracking looking bitch. Good luck with her training. Dave.
  21. Sounds like your pup is coming on well for you mate. She sounds an interesting Cross, do you have any pics of her that you could put up. Dave.
  22. Nice looking pup Just let her be a pup and do a bit of basic training until she is about 4 months, then start with some fun hunting and retrieving games. Like dogdigger said 10 mins a day is all she will need, she will respond well to it and not get bored and after just one week on a particular subject you will see a big difference. Get yourself a good training DVD and you wont go wrong (Holland and Holland do a good one). Good luck Dave.
  23. Absolute stunner, good luck with her training. Dave.
  24. Was out with a new gun at the weekend, had 2 chances and missed both Pheasants, I really like my old gun best Dave.
