  1. You have put the hours in on this thread. Good shooting lads Dave.
  2. She could get to a decent standard to shoot over depending on her drive and breeding, i would start with the basics 10 / 15 mins morning and night and dont move onto the next command until she has mastered the first, she will gradually build up her training and her confidence. I would not let her do any hunting until her basic control is good or you will never get her right, but when you are not training just play retrieve games and build up a good bond with her. Bit of patients and you will be surprised how far you get. I got a cocker x that was a year and had been running with Lurchers an
  3. I started shooting over my Lab at the same age, the trick is short trips of an hour or 2 max, make it a training session but make it fun, i had her hunting up rabbits, but also taking Crows and Pigeons if we came across them but i think sitting waiting in a hide or even roost shooting will be a bit much to ask at this age. The other thing is i would only shoot 1 or 2 rabbits as well, get some good hunting, control work and retrieves in then call it a day and dont fire to many shots over her, 3 or 4 over the space of an hour or so Max. Good luck mate. Dave.
  4. Pups looking good Nik and sounds like his training is coming on well. I would start him on the whistle as soon as he is steady with all his basic training and hand signals. Good luck with him mate. Dave.

  11. Real bonnie fella, good luck with his training. Dave.
  12. I have only seen 1 work Aaron, it was black & white marked like a springer but a Labs head, it hunted very keenly and the handler had good control, it did seem a little steadier than a springer and i was very impreesed with its allround work. I would say they should make good working dogs what ever side they through to, but as with all crosses there is a risk. Good luck with there training and hats off to you for taking both of them on (it will be fun) Dave.
  13. I totaly agree with the above, she looks a nice strong bitch . Good luck with her Baz (fun times ahead i think) Dave.

  17. Well said theferreter, there is no difference in colours, as they can come from the same parents, Chocs can be a bit different but thats only because there is not enough working strains around yet, although i have seen a few decent dogs around recently. But as for working with an air rifle i think a Lab will do a good job for you. Dave.
  18. go for yellow as the blacks dont work I wish people who have an obvious lack of knowledge and experience on working dogs would keep there opinions to themselves when newcomers are asking for genuine advice, the last thing they need is to be ill advised. Dave.
