  1. Thanks for the above, you are dead right. I have been really keeping on top of the stop whistle although she is steady with rabbit. I have been using it when she is playing with my lurcher, waiting until she is in full flight after him, then blowing and stopping her, which she dose OK. After 2 weeks of this, we were shooting Pheasants at the weekend and a Hare pops up right in front of her and she is after it, as soon as i blew the whistle she dropped , i was over the moon, very surprised but over the moon. Thanks again Dave.
  2. If you could put up a picture and some info on its breeding it may help with the sale. Just a suggestion Dave.

  7. Was out today doing some training with the pup, shot a few crows and she put in some nice retrieves so far so good, so i thought i would leave it there. But on the way back she puts up a nice big Hare, so i blew the stop whistle and let the Hare run as i was on my keepered land and have vermin permission only, for the first time ever she totally ignored me , she stops dead on Rabbits but chased this Hare right over the fell. I never looked for any Rabbits so i don't know if it has spoilt her for them as well, i just came right home,so its back to basics for a few weeks before she sees any
  8. Looks a cracking days sport Dave.
  9. I totally agree waidmann, mine is a bit hard mouthed but will retrieve, he is also useful at dispatching crows as he retrieves them Cheers Dave.
  10. Its all about being there and doing it, not about numbers, but we all beat ourselves up about the one that got away. Dave.

  14. Was out tonight for an hour after work, on one of our Rough shooting farms. Me and my mate Jamie had Fudge the Cocker X and i took Fern for a training session. Fern Jamie and Fudge walking the storm belt. Fern the pup starting to hit cover well Fudge getting right into the thick Fern with her first Pheasant Retrieve, i was over the moon, it was text book Fern was really getting into the hunting and looking really keen, which i wanted but i thought it was time to call it a day, before she got to excited. End of day was a bit dark, sorry All in
  15. I have changed the title, as its no longer the First weekend. Please put up your Weekly reports and pictures of your Pheasant Shoots. Dave.
  16. Good news hily, it sounds as if you had some good sport without the new poults. Dave.
  17. Just to kick it off, i shot over my pup recently, she was 6 months, i know this is too young for some people, but i felt she was ready, we hunted up 2 or 3 rabbits, i shot 1, she made the retrieve and then we went home, all in the name of training. The whole session was only 1 hour, which i think was enough for her age. That was 4 weeks ago now and we haven't repeated the experience again yet, even though she did very well. We have just carried on with further training and i will shoot over her, for another hour maybe next week, taking it slow, building up her experience and her confiden
  18. Hello, was down the Wear last week end and the River level was very low. Just wondered how this has effected everyones fishing. Dave.
  19. Hello, just wondered how the wet weather has effected the rearing of Pheasant poults. We didn't rear any this year, so wondered how you all got on. Dave.
  20. What age was your Pup when you first shot over it and what breed is it. I know before anyone jumps down my throat, that there are no hard and fast rules, it all depends on the dog, how its doing in its training and how mature it is, but i just wondered what the avarage age was (please tell the truith) . Dave.
  21. He is still young, i wouldn't worry, but you must wait until he has mastered all aspects of his training before shooting over him, as he will just get confuised. I would concentrate on his retrieving, maybe using cold game to make things more exciting for him, but in a training environment not a hunting one. Dave.
  22. Nice one Richard Hope things work out. Dave.
  23. You should definitely take your Lab, trained or not, my mate has a Cocker X that i did some training with but when he got it back he never carried on with it , so she is pretty wild and dose what she wants, but she is still class on flushing game, you just have to be careful when shooting as she carnt be stopped. On one farm i even take my Terrier because the cover is so thick and he is no gundog, but we would get very little without them. Sunday morning Luckily i have a Lab pup nearly 7 months so hopefully no more shouting at dogs when she gets out . Give it a go mate you wil
  24. Was just wondering how everyone's first week end of the Pheasant season has gone. Our little rough shoot was spoilt by all the wind, we have been tripping over them all Summer, but now the season is here, we only saw 2 and both were missed. We got plenty of vermin though, the crows were giving themselves up, i think it was the low strong sun on Sunday morning. How did you get on ? Dave.
  25. Very nice looking Litter Warren mate. I have always liked Lucy and i am sure her offspring will be very handy bushing dogs. Dave.
