  1. Go back to basics with her, but dont over do it, small sessions every day but not to long as it sounds like she is becoming bored, try to leave training on a good note even if you have only done 5 minuets, If she is ignorning you shouting loud and deep at her and as soon as she responds be gentle and responsive to her, she will soon come round. Also when you regain her focus i would start her hunting, whether it be blind dummys or even rabbits, she will be ready at 10 months and it will rekindle her intreast in working for you, but again dont over do it and if she becomes to excited end the se
  2. Really smart looking pup Belly, good look with its training. Dave.
  3. Nice looking pup good luck with it. Dave.
  4. Sorry Mickey my messemger box was full The 3/4 Grey, 1/4 Collie is a very popular cross over here and possibly the most versatile of lurchers, but others have more experience than me, i wont bog down this section with to much lurcher talk so will PM you mate. Dave.
  5. Hi Mickey, i dont think i have done anything (this time) I have had a few PM's over the last few days, so not sure mate. Dave.
  6. I wish bigshrimp, i can not upload any of my pics to my avatar for some reason and thats the only pic i can. I got it from another USA forum i get on,(I do love there pointing dogs). ATB Dave.
  7. Good luck with the career LH. Dave.
  8. Bigshrimp, he has worked alot with Gundogs and Terriers, so he knows to wait and let them do the hard work in cover, plus he dosnt have much of a coat so he is not a lover of working the cover himself unless he can make a quick grab, what he did learn at an early age is to watch and listen to the other dogs, so he generaly guesses where the bunny will bolt from and he positions himself there. Do you get much of this type of hunting in Canada. Dave.
  9. Hunting them all together is a fun way of bushing but you never get big numbers, they do all find there place/job in the pack and it seems to all work out. The GWP will point if no other dogs about but that is not his main job, he will mainly hit cover with the others and the GWP Lurcher is a master of taking rabbits out of there seats. The best offective way of catching rabbits is one gundog bushing and a fast lurcher catching, then you can get some canny numbers. Tess a master of finding pointing and flushing them Paddy the catch dog Like i s
  10. Cracking pics Jay and smart looking sprocker. Dave.
  11. You are dead right Jay and also right leaving her training until the season has finished when you have more time and light nights. Good look with her training mate she looks a cracker. Some pics off the week end. Spot the GWP on point My lab getting into cover Not much about as the whole area has been under water most of the winter, but a nice walk out just the same. Cheers Dave.
  12. Nice looking dogs Jayhawk how do you find the Vizsla, i have always liked them, how is she for hunting cover. Paddyeuro, It wont take long before the lurcher begins to know where the bunny will bolt and you will get some excellent sport. You could use either a Terrier or a spaniel for the job although i would say a cocker or springer are more versatile than a terrier because you could also shoot over the dog as well. Other breeds can also be used, i have used a GWP and currently have a small lab bitch in my pack. Dave.
  13. Nice looking hounds and good luck with the pack. Dave.
  14. Really sad news that mate. Dave.
  15. Hope you get some good news soon BB, its bad crack the theft of dogs at least he is microchipped. I had a Terrier stollen while out for a walk with the kids 2 years ago, he went through a small wood and someone chucked him in the back of a car on the other side, they saw us but drove off quickly, we were in bits for 2 days then out of the blew the dog warden rang, they had chucked him out 10 miles away but he was microchipped so it was a happy ending (but not for the theif as i found out who it was) All the best mate Dave.
  16. Good luck with finding him. Dave.
  17. Being only 3 month old i wouldnt worry to much RB, make sure you start your basic training without any distractions, then when he gets to a reasonable standard,eg has masterd the lond stay, then start brining in distractions like the chickens while the pup is in Long Stay, remember to keep reasuring the pup and he will soon begin to ignore the chickens and just focus on you. Dave.
  18. Nice looking Dogs al, and thanks for the replies Micky and Ricky. The Lurcher is Saluki/Greyhound X Collie/Greyhound and a good all round Lurcher with stamina, good feet and allot of speed. The Cocker X went to one of the lads i shoot with when i got the lab pup as he was desperate for a half trained rough shooting dog and really liked her. I had only had her 6 months myself and i didnt want him to get any rubbish so it worked out well and i still get to shoot over her every week. Was out yesterday with Pointer off this site, his GWP, Lurcher and Terrier and my 3, we never got a thi
  19. When training a young pup i keep my Chickens in there run, then have a training session next to it, making the pup sit next to the mesh but looking at me while doing dummy training, the trick is keeping the pup fixed on you and not the Chickens, if you are doing a long stay and the pup starts moving towards the chucks, then correct as usual. They soon loose interest in the chickens. Dave.
  20. Nice pics and a smart looking springer. Dave.
  21. He may have a cracking pedigree but how is he in the field, if i ever breed from my bitch the stud would have to be something special, and tick all the working boxes i have (and i have allot)and if it had a good pedigree that would be a bonus, but it would be secondary. Dave.
  22. Very handsome fellow, good luck with his training. Dave.
  23. Think you are spot on there hily, i like a bitch to be 3 years old before breeding, you then know she is phisicly and mentally strong enough, wheather she has even had time to prove herself in the field is another matter. Dave.
