  1. Did you keep a pup off Bramble as well mate, bet you have your hands full Happy days. Dave.
  2. It all depends on the dog, mine has done very little except general obedience until very recent, but as i moved her to the next step of introducing the whistle she picked it up and responded so well i knew it was time to move on, if she haddent i would of just carried on with general training for another week or so. This is the way i tell when she is ready to move on, its easy to push them to hard and sicken them, but when they are ready they will pick it up naturally. Dave.
  3. Thanks Baz, she doing well mate, she stops, sits and stays on the whistle, is retrieving well as you would expect but i am very impressed with her hunting in cover, she hits it hard (water as well) and can be a little to keen, but thats what i want in her. The only thing is blind retrieves, but that will come as she is only 5 months and theres no hurry. Cheers Dave.
  4. Good thread swampy and a nice looking pup, good luck with his training but it sounds as if he is coming on well. I shoot vermin all year round on keepered land and the pests need knocking back this time of the year as well, iam keeping off the high fells at the minuet as the grouse are breeding, also if i come across some partridges i try to leave that area alone, but the keeper is still counting birds with his dogs now. Luckily i have a lot of land to go at so everyone's happy. Dave.
  5. No wonder you are as fit as a Lop Pointer , but i was pleased you made it to pick me up, so i got to down a few pints after I think it was the pints i had over the weekend that slowed me down up them hills mate, but getting out a few times a week this new season will soon sort me out. Dave.
  6. She looks a little stunner Hendo, good luck with her mate. Dave.
  7. Me and Pointer were out last night exercising hounds with the huntsman, here are a few pics. Raring to go Look at me Where did everyone go In full cry Then in came the Weather Bang, time for the pub The scent was poor in the very wet conditions but the beer was cold in the pub with a roaring fire to dry us off, what more do you want. Hope you like them Dave.
  8. Thanks Jack, she will have to be, she will be worked twice a week all year round, so fingers crossed. Dave.
  9. Thanks Jack, she will have to be, she will be worked twice a week all year round, fingers crossed. Dave.
  10. Have to leave my normal land alone for a while as there is alot of Partridges breeding there. So tried a lower farm that i rarely shoot, it never holds many rabbits but what it does, the sport is excellent. Not a massive bag but we were only out 1 1/2 hours before we lost the light. Dave.
  11. Cracking looking litter mate and the bitch looks a nice stamp. Good luck with them. Dave.
  12. Got her from a Keeper in Heighington, he works on a Bedale estate. Dam is a Stockiemuir Bitch and Sire is Cardy Keas from Shadowbrae out of George Ridley's Kennels. Cheers lads Dave.
  13. I don't think the thread is quiet, i think its peoples lack of interest in replying to them. I have recently started 2 new topics, the first requested some information on Pointers from the USA, i got 114 views and only 2 people bothered to reply and the second was some pics of my 5 month old pup, i admit pups are not very exciting but from 87 veiws 2 people could be bothered to reply. If this is the amount of interest and support given to fellow Gundog enthusiasts, this section will soon be a white elephant. Dave.
  14. Thanks for the replies lads, i am pleased someone could be bothered to reply. Dave.
  15. Here are a few pics of Fern, she has just gone 5 months now and coming along nicely. Fern scenting where rabbits were sat. Where did they all go She loves jumping through the long grass She found a hidden Pheasant wing in the nettles Retrieving a dummy in the garden She is hitting cover hard when hunting and retrieving Pheasant wings and dummies very well. So fingers crossed in a few months i could end up with a handy shooting partner. Dave.
  16. Cheers lads, will get some pics up of the hounds hunting in a few weeks. Dave.
  17. There are many places which now have warm water exercise baths, the type used in Greyhound training. They are tred mills in water, which take the weight of the dog away as they exercise, when the dog is improving the remove a little water which increases the work the dog will do. one of my mates had a staffy which had a knee op and even when it was totally healed, it continued to limp, after about 6 sessions of this type of therapy, it did the trick. Look it up on google, Hope this helps. Dave.
  18. Thanks for the reply Mickey, i didnt think i was going to get any I have seen them referred to as EP which i took as English Pointer, if they are a different breed to ours my apology. If they are the same breed, and i dont want to offend anyone, have they possibly got a bit of GSP in there, which makes the tail vertical. Thanks again. Dave.
  19. Well the huntsman rang me yesterday and asked if me and Pointer could give him a hand walking the Hounds out, its only about 2 weeks until the beginning of the season so its time to start getting them fit. Here are a few pics - The weather was crap, but my little lad loved it and someone gave him a whip, big mistake. Dave.
  20. I have been looking at some pics of what the Americans call English Pointers, but they are obviously a different dog to our native pointers, they have more bone and have a vertically carried tail, i am not saying they are any better or any worse, they are just different, why ?. Have they got some other breeding in there or are they just a different strain, either way they are a handsome dog, as are ours but i just wondered about the differences. Any information welcome. Dave.
  21. Had an hour hunting the woods on my permision. Sorry about the pics only had my phone. Only took 5 but in hard going conditions was some excellent sport. Dave.
  22. Cracking looking pup Hily, she looks like she is going to be a nice strong little bitch. Dave.
