You and me both BigDan, Some pics of my new Beagle/Basset x Cocker Was worred about getting a non Terrier but she really has added something else to our little pack, she is only 14" and hits cover like you would not belive, only had her 2 weeks but she is starting to work well with the terriers and we are looking forward to the coming season with her. Dave.

Hello Hamish, he looks like a Border x Lakeland to me mate but as a couple of lads have said who cares as long as he does the job for you. As for bushing, get him out with some older dogs and praise him when he goes into cover, get him ragging dead rabbits or skins and then start hideing them in bushes an make a game of it. if he starts chaseing rabbits to the burrows and starts getting interested in going into holes, keep a skin in your pocket and throw it in the hedge and incurage him to hunt for it, this will learn him that when a rabbit has gone to ground to give up on it and look for th

I have a Border x Lakeland who will run through anything to catch the bunny and just got a Beagle/Basset x Cocker only 14" and proving to be an excelent bushing dog. Dave.

Thanks Steve, got a shock when i saw the GWP pup, he has really come on and looking alot more mature in the 6 weeks since i have seen him, really getting into the thick now mate and i was impressed with his nose hes more like a hound than a pointer. And the young lurcher is really getting a nice shape to him now, pity there wasnt much to run at but thats the way it goes, last time we were on that land there was plenty. No wonder you were knacked that night looking at the size of the bag you lads and Warren took, Well done again and a nice start to the season for you all. Dave.

Nice size bag lads, looks like a good day out, well done. Dave.

By the way BigDan, just been looking at the for sale, did you get that Cocker x Patterdale, if so it will improve your odds in this compertition mate. Hope you get it sorted. Dave.

So we are using the point system above and it all kicks off Saturday morning. Right watch out Bunnys the Wear Valley Rabbit pack are comming.

BigDan, Count me in. Me and Whippet Boy hunt most week ends with our pack, we do a bit of Bushing through the summer to keep the dogs fit, so if we are only counting bushing dogs not Lurchers we have caught 23 Since April. Our Bushing dogs are a Border, Border Lakeland and my new Cocker x Beagle Basset.

Good idea LDR, I would be up for it.

Compo, i think Chipper did breed her and i think he sorted the field trial Cocker stud dog. Just had her out today with Whippet boy, between us we have a Border, a Border Lakeland and 2 Lurchers, she is fitting in really well. She flushed about 4 rabbits herself and has been keenly following the terriers into cover, she flushed a few sitters as well that she tracked while the terriers were only interested in working the hedges, i was a bit unsure about useing a non terrier as a bushing dog but she is deffenetly going to bring something different to our little rabbit pack.
-
Compo, she is a Basset/Beagle/Jack Russel x Cocker Spaniel, she is only about 14" or just under and works all cover, so no she is not related to bud but i must say he did impress me when i was out with Chipper and so did his daughter who is half Selym and also a tidy little hound. Fudge flushed a rabbit second night i had her for Whippet Boys Lurcher Sandy and works well with the Terriers in cover, my lurcher is starting to follow her now as he has seen how good her nose is. I am made up with how she has done this last week & carnt belive she is only 8 months old. Dave.

Picked up a new bushing dog off Chipper Smith at the week end, she is a 8 month old Cocker x Hound, she is very steady, walks at heel, comes to the whistle and hunts like a demon, a real credit to Chipper who has put a lot of time and effort into this young pup, to which i am very grateful that I was given first chance. It also meant that I got to have an afternoon out with Chipper and his pack of Hounds, which I have heard so much about (wish i had my camera), I wasn’t disappointed and was very impressed with the level of control he had over the full pack, they hunted well

Nice 1 Compo, that Teckle Border looks very handy mate, have seen it on your web site. As for the Hound or Spaniel benifits as a bushing dog, i have just picked up a Cocker x Hound to add to my rabbit pack she is 8 months old and well trained to the whistle, i got her off Chipper Smith and she is a credit to him, will put up some pics soon.
-
Compo, how do you find your Teckle x Border (got any pics) do you know if they pack well together as i might be looking to add 2 more bushing dogs to our pack and have seen some good Teckles about lately but i like the sounds of that cross even better.
-
Get some pics up mate, lets get a look at him.

BigDan, my 26" Lurcher is ok but a little big for bushing, but i also do alot of fell work so he is ideal for a day up there, if i was to get a Lurcher just for bushing alongside Terriers i would use a Whippet x Greyhound as a catch dog only as the Terriers will be doing the thick work. The Spaniel/Terrier and Teckle/Terrier sound ideal crosses to me, i like the idea of a beagle cross but are they not a bit big for thick bramble work, the other thing is they get a bad press on trainability and control, what do you think Compo.

I love to see a good bobery pack working together, me and whippet boy have got a 21" Lurcher, 26" Lurcher, a Border and a Border Lakeland between us , work them alltogether regular and oftern get double figure rabbits just bushing (Great Sport). After a while the Lurchers seem to know where the rabbit will bolt from and the two terriers work very well together. Thinking of adding another couple of Terriers to our little pack but not sure what to get that will pack good with the others and keep the pack together, Whippet boy had another Border which was KC but it just took off and did its own

Thanks for the welcome, the Terrier in a Lakeland / Border / Patterdale and he is about 18 months old.
