I would look for a secondhand Tikka T3 lite or failing that a cz 527 with set trigger. You would probably have trouble with the horrible hogue stock on a howa and by the time you have bought something to replace it with and a box mag conversion, which won't work properly anyway, you could have bought something decent from the outset. As for the Browning A bolt unless you have a penchant for triggers like rusty bog door latches forget it. The triggers in these are made from die cast metal and very little can be done to improve them, neither are aftermarket triggers available for them, which is

I was shooting rabbits heads off last night at between 200yds and 280yds with my T3 .204 supervarmint, plenty accurate for me.

How Many Rounds Do You Use In A Year?
ianm replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
As usual another flo making it up as he goes along. What about if you reload? how is he going to cope with that? It isn't about how many rounds you have used but whether you are a risk or not to public safety. Nothing to do with fieldcraft or any other bollocks, What's he going to do watch you creep up on a rabbit? Think public safety first, middle and last whilst looking for an open ticket, also arse covering exercises for those issuing it. -
You can go wherever you like and shoot whatever calibre you like so long as you deem it safe to do so and you have permision to be on the land shooting.

I have a couple, what thread?
-
You need to be a bit carefull using comb raisers because they not only lift the height but push your head away from the stock at the same time. It's worth spending time to get them exactly where they need to be.

Seems a lot of yapping for nothing this thread, if your bothered about lead contamination in rabbits just set snares for them, job done.

Your all wrong, .204 is the only calibre anyone should consider for fox. If that charlie chap mentions .222 i'll scream and scream till i'me sick.

But the HMR will NOT humanely kill a fox with a chest shot past yards. Believe me I hold my hands up and done it, hence why I have now sold the hmr and got a .22-250 Nobody is doubting that the hmr is inadequate for fox but it certainly will kill a fox wheather or not it drops on the spot is a different matter. Head shot is a must, with my .22-250 I can honestly say I've never had a runner I've had the odd nerve twitch and that's it. If you have never had a runner it is because you have shot relatively few foxes. Believe me 22.250 or not if you shoot at enough then you will get

SACS is better cover for half the price. I haven't seen basc doing much shooter representation recently.

To Reload.....or Not...
ianm replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hornady gear is pretty good, i use their dies and press. -
Good job! the more of these that get shot, the better. I either read or heard a few days ago that there were only 140,000 reds left as opposed to 2'500'000 greys. We have work to do!

No i didn't, i know they are supposed to be good but just too rat like for me They haven't been wasted though, as they make good fox fodder. Thanks, yes i really like the R10, I think they are good value for money too, and made in England.

Views On Shooting Foxes When Cubs Are About?

With the crosmans it's running about 28ftlbs, i think i only shot three directly off the feeder the rest where either on the ground under the feeder or in the tree the feeder is attached to.

A couple of weeks ago i bought a fac BSA R10 as i have aquired some permisions for squirrels in woods. I have been experimenting with various pellets and settled on Crosman premiers ultra magnums 14.3 grn. I have also put a couple of squirrel feeders out and i decided i would go and give it a bash this morning. In 2 1/2 hours i managed to shoot fifteen squirrels and a jay, however i only found thirteen and i dropped one of them out of my bag on the way back.

T50 and T67 are ridiculously heavy, they are supposed to be equivalant to a n/m800 but having tried them all side by side they are not in the same league. Which "lamp" will suit you also depends on what scope you are using ie: how much light it lets through. Three years ago i did a back to back comparison between a brand new L/F 240 blitz with red filter and a n/m800 with red led, the n/m800 beat the L/F hands down. However if i had wanted white light at long range i would have chosen the L/F 240. The blitz however is not very practical on a rifle, it's the size of a pressure cooker and you ha

Well thats another FEO making it up as he goes along. If someone gets into your gun cabinet how long do you think it will take to prise their way into the silly little locked cupboard inside, 15 secs max? My bolts stay in the rifles unless i am cleaning them, for two reasons, A, i don't go shooting and forget the bolt, B, i have three Tikka T3s and two CZs and i don't want the bolts mixed up.

I was told by my licensing authority it is a mistake with the new forms and will be rectified at some point. Meanwhile they said just put "all previous convictions declared on grant" and list any new ones.

Cheque.

Home Office Announces Increase In Firearms Licensing Fees
ianm replied to swshooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
People are losing sight of the fact that licensing according to the authorities was brought about to ensure public safety. Licensing in no way benefits the licence holder, quite the opposite infact. So if it is all about public safety then the brunt of cost should be borne from the public purse and not expect shooters to cover full costs, which is what the acpo are after. -
You have pm regards .204 loads.

S.A.C.S for me, better insurance, half the price. I didn't renew with basc after it became apparent they supported police forces bullying new applicants into doing the worthless dsc1 to obtain a deer legal calibre. I had no such trouble but plenty of others do and basc don't support them. Why would they? it's a nice little earner for them and their cronies.

Put it in the care of an rfd and inform the police of the circumstances. Then they can either apply for a fac or have it deactivated.
