I don't know of one rifle regardless of manufacturer that doesn't like the Hornady 20grn vmax .17 Hornet factory ammunition.
-
I have one of these in the correct hornet calibre .17 . They are good little rifles, oh and i waited 9 months for a Tikka T3 once. Good luck with it i hope you enjoy it after the wait.

If mounted via picatinny rails then in theory it is possible, but i wouldn't risk it.

I have a cz which i purchased after trying someones savage. There are only three manufacturers cz, savage and ruger and out of the three i think cz are the best build quality. I had mine shortened to 20.5" and still get 3600fps with factory ammo, more with homeloads.

Define better? I have a .17 hornet amongst other calibres and i got it to replace a hmr. It is cheap to load for if you do load, flat shooting, quiet and just a good all round vermin calibre. Fox capable to 200yds, rabbits, crows etc to 300yds. Cheapest c/fire to run if you don't load, i can currently buy factory ammo for £16.95 for a box of 25, although i load for everything i have barring rimfire. Is that a "everyone" normal price? I'm about to put in for a .17 Hornet and thinking bout reloading for economy. Peeps on here have said about 40p to reload. I know reloading is not all about

You don't have to have land, cleared or otherwise to own a particular calibre. You have to show good reason amongst which are payed stalking, invites to stalk etc. So if you wanted a 308/30-06 a letter confirming your booking for a payed stalk is good reason, likewise a written invitation to stalk is good reason. In your force area perhaps. So when it comes to renewal time and the bit of land you show them is a small field, they'd just let you keep the 308? Or would you have to book more stalking? Taking deer out of the equation, if you fancied a 223 for example, how would you

You still need one piece of land "cleared" for the calibre, even on an open ticket as your good reason. And Rusty - yes it's only Scotland that don't have closed tockets. I don't think that is correct, the idea of an open cert is the you make the decision as to whether the land is suitable or not. I have several rifles up to 30/06 and i know full well none of them have been "cleared" by plod for some of my calibres. It has never been an issue with Lancs or anyone else i know in other counties. I just put a variation in for whatever calibre i want, tell them what the inte

Mine used to have fox on, but now all my rifles have deer and AOLQ.
-
Everytime fox and that poxy little gun the hmr are mentioned there is a fall out of epic proportions, i think it should be banned on those grounds alone.
-
With all due respect someone needs to challenge them, the Home Office (in simple terms the Police regions Head Office) says the HMR is fine for fox, who is a regional office to argue/question/go against a Head Office ruling? The problem is it is only a guide and so any force can choose to ignore it.

How many shots would that yield, is that with 200cc bottle No it is fitted with a bigger bottle off a rapid.
-
I always fill mine to at least 230bar .22 950 fps 32ftlbs.
-
Each to their own but i cannot get excited about target shooting at all or clays, in fact if they where the only reason i had to keep guns i would get rid of them.
-
I would of expected it to be 2/3 fps difference max with a Huma reg, i sent mine to John Bowkett for a blueprint and he fits his own reg in them, it's only a couple of fps variation.

I have changed all my mods to DM80 because they are very quiet, light and easily stripped to clean with the bonus of being cheaper than the rest.

I have had most success with a foxpro caller. A lot of the times foxes won't respond to distress calls, like now when there is an abundance of food available. Last week i was watching a fox through my night vision that was looking for poults on the ground outside the release pen and it completely ignored the pheasant distress call i played even though that is what it had been feeding on. I changed the call to a vixen call and it came bouncing in, enabling me to shoot it. I have never seen or heard of a mouth caller that mimics fox calls but i have about 15 different fox calls at my finger tips

If fox is on the cards i personally wouldn't bother with hmr, (many do, but i don't). Instead i went for .17 hornet which imo is a great little vermin rifle. Fox out to 200yds, crows, rabbits etc out to 300yds and cheap to load for. Although it isn't really a volume rabbit rifle, if i was shooting hundreds a week i would go for something else.

FEO just rung (yes, at 21:00!) The land is already cleared for .222 so .223 isn't an issue, no visit necessary. ;-) Woo Hoo! Why would any land need checking if you are on an open cert? i don't get it. -
If you have a 10/22 that actually works and is accurate, keep it forever it's a rare beast.
-
Well for me my list is, .22 fac air for squirrels rats pigeons etc. .22 l/r for quietly despatching rabbits. .17 Hornet for longer range rabbits, crows, fox etc. .204 for dedicated n/v for fox. 30/06 for Deer, boar and anything else likely to be encountered. I have found the above just about perfect for me.
