  1. Why did he chamber and fire a second round if the first one failed?
  2. Foxpro wildfire, i have used one for a couple of years now and they are superb when you get to know what to use and when. At this time of year foxes can be difficult to call because there is so much food about. A lot will respond to the various fox calls on the fox pro. I bought mine from a chap in this country who imports them himself then installs 250 usefull calls on them. Mine goes with me everytime i go foxing, sure you can call them with sucking on the back of your hand type distress calls but only if they are hungry.
  3. You can destroy virtually any new centrefire day one if you work at it, the fact this is 24 years old is meaningless, he may only have used it for 24 shots, one a year! I omitted from the post that he has shot this rifle a lot but only on fox no paper punching.
  4. I was speaking to a chap in the gunshop yesterday who was going to have his 22.250 rebarrelled as the groups had started to open up. Apparantly he has only had it 24 years.
  5. I would be surprised if anyone had a standard trigger in a Remington it's usually the first thing that gets changed.
  6. For foxes and long range crows etc i use a .204, infact i own two, one for day and one for night, the last fox i shot was at night and 320 yds. I also have a .243 which on occasion i will also use for fox. Any of the .22 c/f will do the job like wise so will a 17 rem or a .20 cal. It all depends on what else ( if anything ) you are going to shoot, whether from a truck or walking, expected ranges etc.
  7. Because you have an open ticket for .22lr and hmr doesn't mean they will give you open for .223, infact seeing as they wouldn't give you a c/fire when you first asked i doubt they will.
  8. Each to their own but i could not live with a trigger that's bottom weight was 3lbs.
  9. Meopta are worth a look aswell.
  10. 1-12" is fine for hunting, i used 40grn bullets in my .223 and it was a very good fox combination.
  11. There is one at Bond and Bywaters gunshop Preston, 01772 258980
  12. My son has one of these in cammo, bought it brand new. It has never missed a beat, cycles everything from 28grm to 31/2" magnums. Best semi auto for the money avaiable, infact it would shame some costing twice as much. Have a look on youtube for Baikel mp153 i think it is.
  13. I found myself in the same situation last week. I applied for a 17hmr, 22lr and a 22-250. The FEO said I needed a mentor and needed him to complete a letter. I told the FEO to remove the 22-250 as I could not be bothered to go through the hassle. I was then told that i could expect the FAC soon. I think having a mentor is a responsible thing to do, if someone is moving up from air rifles or even starting from scratch. Once I have more experience, I will get a variation for something bigger. If that is what you are happy to do and it suits you then great, good luck. However i w
  14. You will struggle to get a new barrel fitted for £500, expect to pay £600+. http://border-barrels.com/border.htm Correct.
  15. I know of a lad with a 22.250 and he shoots at targets aswell as foxing and averages 1,ooo to 1200 rounds before he needs a rebarrel. The same goes for .243 shooting 55 or 58 grn bullets.
  16. I didn't mention any one in particular, he just went all quiet wrote something then moved on. I won't put up with crap from anyone and i certainly won't be forced into doing something that is not called for in law, nor should anyone else, or you just finish up jumping through needless hoops.
  17. I sometimes use my .243 with 58grn when i fancy a change or i am just lamping as opposed to using night vision. However the .204 shoots so sweetly i soon go back to it. Reloading i can do 2 1/2 cartridges for a pound.

  19. I have mentioned this before on here and at the risk of being boring i will do so again. Refuse point blank to have a mentor as i did, i asked for .17 hmr, .22lr, .223 and .243 and a mentor was asked for. I refused saying it would severely restrict my shooting waiting for someone to have the time to accompany me. I did mention that such a condition would infringe my human rights. One week later ticket arrived with everything on it and no mentoring. I had my ticket opened in less than 12 months too.
  20. I used to shoot a .223 for fox but changed to .204, i also have a .243. The .204 i have will shoot 26grn, 32grn, 39grn or 40grn bullets just aswell as each other. Zeroed at 1" high at 100yds it shoots flat out to 300yds so ideal for fox at night when it's hard to judge distance accurately. There is no recoil to speak of and you never lose the sight picture, so you squeeze the trigger and see the target go down.As for velocities with a short barrel a gunsmith in America started with a 26" barrel and kept cutting 1" off to see how it was affected. It turned out that the optimum length was 23" an
  21. I use an n750 on a .204 mainly for fox. it is fitted with a xsearcher for illumination, i have shot fox out to 235yds no problem at all. I also use a x550 spotter with a bouble battery n/m 800 fitted to it, i can pick foxes up at 500yds.
  22. Hares are very susceptible to shock, there are special boxes to move them from place to place, i have seen them but can't remember what they look like.
  23. Thanks for advice mate I was going to write to request after a year anyway but didn't want to push my luck but suppose can't do any harm. Will I need to pay if the request is granted ? No you don't pay anything.
