Bird migration and ringing.
Squirrel_Basher replied to mackem's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
do you think thats clever you can get nicked for that you wouldnt be laughing then It wasnt big or clever but at a time when I was frantically feeding kits ,a chance shot at those disease ridden ,tile shitters was justified pay back -

For those of you more knowledgeable on the passage birds ,do honey buzzards frequent our lands at all in winter as a conversation today with a chap who is a bbc wildlife cameraman threw me right off .The bbc ,according to him are documenting passage birds of prey for or as part of a new program .He assures me ,honey buzzards are not at all uncommen here .Personally, due to the vast colour phases and sizes of the commen buzzard I think sightings are dubious but .............................?

Gate netting Hares
Squirrel_Basher replied to mole catcher's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
This is way below your league gentleman but an old boy I knew, worked a set made from a 15ft cut off long net section which had no top or bottem line or poles .The net was mearly draped over the middle of the gate [along the rungs]and trailed on the floor infront with slight bagging below the gate .We bowled many hares with this but by christ they took a bit of untangling as the hare took the net well past the gate before becoming hopelessly tangled .His lurcher was nearly as old as he was ,it seemed :11: and never chased a hare or rabbit that I saw but merely worked the feild thoroughly befor -
High powered rifles ruined the land :11: The truth here is that a centre fire is THE most effective method of control for foxes ,deer ,etc. Some lads promise the earth to farmers about being able to control numbers of these animals with lurchers but fall short ,well short of any sort of control or maintanence of numbers. The rifle boys move in and start CONTROLLING NUMBERS.That is the way it is around us anyway .There is always a surplus of any game to move into a void left by control as I know to my cost ,having lost land to people prepared to break the law .Going out at different times may

Cant fault the answers but an explanation as to why these baits are used is here-The small partical baits are best which dosnt allow rats to carry off the bait to consume out of the reach of the dogs and forces them to eat it where you want them to and not vice versa .A pile of logs with grain tipped over them will do as well .Make sure all escapes are cut off before moving the baited area .Good hunting .

Quality pics mate .You boys certainly have a wide range of quarry.KEEP THE STORIES AND PICS COMING ,WE LOVE IT .
-
Dont know how experienced you are mate but the answer is obvious .Keep terriers on leads until you WANT them to enter.Amateurs let terriers run free in my book .{unless you are ratting etc}

Look at it like this .Those on there posting regular ,Saturday and Sunday all day ,evenings, arent out digging so to exclude someone for not posting for a while is bollocks and invites messers to post regular to stay on site .I'd rather be digging .

ADVICE -Not all cateracts are vision imparing ,depends on the density of it ,and remain so for years .Not all suspected cateracts are in fact cateracts at all and are more serious.Displaced retina starts as a bluish tint to the pupil but spreads to the rest of the eye very quickly .All sight is lost in this eye .Once dog has it in one eye ,then its 99% that 6 months to a year will see the other eye the same .No surgery available to cure the displaced retina ,only removal of the eye .A second vetenary opinion is adviseable when dealing with eyes .

When your married with 2.4 kids and the sex dries up to twice a year ,appointment only, then you'll look back and think -"WHAT IF" ................?.GET IN THERE BOY ,WHAT YOU PLAYING AT !.

BYE BYE! BLANDO KIK HIM OF HE TALKS UTTER SHITE :11: Should be struck off for spelling if nothing else . :11: Perhaps a short spelling test for new members would sort out the would -be numties .On the bad taste pic thing ,how about 3 strikes and your off site . Ian -Is there any way of making people read the various laws on dogs before becoming a member .Then there would be no excuse for unlawful pics .
-
At that range youd have missed anyway foxy :11: Good to see you out and about mate .Nice country .

Whats the going rate,mate .

If ,like me you need more than 5 shots on the odd occassion on one rabbit :11: then the ruger 10-22 will belt out bullets as fast as your trigger finger will work. The mags need maintenance however,in the form of a soapy wash and light oiling.

Plummers as good as any??!!
Squirrel_Basher replied to Shamo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Like Ive said many times before ,Ive no gripe with anyone owning /working a terrier to anything. Its the people trying to justify the Plummer terrier as an earth dog that pisses me and other lads off.My aunts yorkie will rag a dead anything ,complete with bow in the hair,so you see why the pics mean nothing .Just one pic of a plummer ,collared up and soiled ,facing a fox in a DIG would be enough to shut me up the subject .Even better,an invite to watch one doing the bizz would seal it forever. Any takers-your ground, your choice of earth-Anywhere in England . -
Certainly wasnt done on the same pocket digi that I own :11: .Quality shots there mate .

Plummers as good as any??!!
Squirrel_Basher replied to Shamo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Call me thick if you like or anything else but in all my years of digging Ive never seen a dog with an ounce of white on it ,dug to without a speck of dirt on it,even if its only a short one .?Makes one think the photo may not be what its meant to be .ONLY MY OPINION MIND.....OR do plummers have to by law ,have a full shampoo and manicure before being photo'd for a public forum . -
I try to be courtious to everyone I meet in the countryside and engage them in conversation to find out what their veiws are.More than one has been swayed by a sensible approach to the hunting act as opposed to what they read in the daily rags .If you receive abuse then dont respond but be polite. We have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to fight for .The "right to roam" thing has given some people the thought that they can do just that ,but private land still remains private and wanderers should be shown the nearest footpath but politely .Abuse does nothing to further our cause .

Plummers as good as any??!!
Squirrel_Basher replied to Shamo's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
.....................and a plummer that works regular to ground is very rare indeed it would seem :11: Fair comment though Shamo and hope someone comes forward to at least add a shred of meaning to the words PLUMMER TERRIER. Ive no gripe with anyone owning /working a terrier to rabbit ,rat as long as they dont pretend its anything else. -
Theres more there than turned out at Hyde park. :11: Nice pics though.
