  1. Fact -Shepp ,you are right .No law against trespass .Its the trespass with intent that they have to prove . Walking a dog at night with a lamp is not a criminal offence unless you are caught ,seen to be running anything on land you havent got permission .In the past its been hard enough to convince the law that I have permission ,even with written permission .
  2. Starlings do the flock thing just before roost around us ,thousands of them swarm into a row of evergreens and chatter most of the night .Due to, I think, the closeness of street lights. On some shoots around us they organise a shoot to disuade the birds from roosting in certain woods as they make hell of a mess and supposedly put pheasants off roosting .Saw a sparrow hawk diving into a flock once whilst roost shooting but he drew a blank from what I saw as the flock split in two at every attack .
  3. Wish Id seen this earlier .You could of dealt with it yourself mate [if you were that way inclined that is] Its a build up of cell fluid and antibodies like you said .The inner membrane between skin and muscle has ruptured and the bodies way is to pile fluid at it .A small drain hole made at the bottem and a sterile drip tube, taped to shaved skin would have cleared this up .Salt water wash every day x2. Hope it wasnt too expensive .
  4. Why didnt you say it was a feral then Mucky .After thought !
  5. Foxhunter-If you see a fox coming towards you in what I call a 3/4 fashion, leave your mate where he is and then work the wind yourself mate .Shuffle over to intercept .A fox very rarely changes a 3/4 route .Do not squeak again yourself but let your mate carry on .Try it !.
  6. Patrick-I know what your saying mate but my argument is as Stabs said ,why go outside the gene pool to further dilute a strain of working terrier when there are cracking examples within each type .Its just a matter of putting the feelers out to find it .Personally I would not buy or except a cross breed as Im a bit of a purist when looking for a suitable outcross within the breed I work .I say this at the risk of being slammed as I know the blacks have from time to time ,had additions to the make up .There are no reasons I can think of at all for not striving to better the breed you keep by br
  7. Ditch -You are turning into a bit of an anorak mate .Flower spotting ,is this a ploy to coverse with the female members or a spell of finding your own feminine side . :11:
  8. So would you breed these offspring again or go back to the original ,just curious .
  9. "Some kind of dove ".Shouldnt be out on live quarry if you cant identify the thing .
  10. Ive seen a fair few terrier breeds crossed with another breed on here and I am at a loss as to why people do it ?Isnt there enough decent blood within each breed to keep them true or am I so blinkered by the blacks that I know of no good reason to outcross to another breed .The only reason I can come up with is laziness on the part of the breeder for not searching out a suitable match within the breed and making do with a mates down the road ?
  11. I think this is a very interesting thread .No clear verdict yet ,mainly down to personal preference but it makes you think about it when you hear of accidents .Personally I never take the collars off .
  12. Sometimes see several in the sky along with red kites on a thermal .
  13. Wish people would mention where they came from before posting about leg holds .Just about to let rip. :11:
  14. Do you think Darcy would like to go the same way then.Books ,boys :11:
  15. Shot this buck this morning on a farm nearby .It had [when alive] a bent neck which caused it to walk with its neck outstretched and to one side .Ive seen and watched this buck for a while and it was healthy but always destined to be a cull .The head set is above average and would of made a good stock buck if it hadnt been for the neck .On grassing it I found the neck was movable and not frozen as first thought ,probably a muscle spasm thing .Age estimated at 3 years old .
  16. Cheers for the tidy up Chris . The litter is my digging partners mate but yes I am having one .
  17. The bent neck we spoke about ,although the neck is rather straighter in death .Must have been a muscle spasm. Finally got him this morning after a long stalk through some standing beans .
  18. A mates litter of nuttals.Only 3 in the litter so all well fed. The bitch .A nuttal of outstanding finding ability and 100% stayer . [Thread Sorted - CJ]
  19. The funniest encounter I had with a badger was when out shooting rabbits with the .22 with a mate .I shot a rabbit at a fair distance and unfortunately never killed it outright. My mate ran to it before it got down a bury in the hedge and arrived at the rabbit the same time as a badger came out the hedge to grab the rabbit .My mate grabbed the rabbit and a tug of war ensued for a second or two before the badger realized his mistake and retreated into the hedge !Funny to watch . :11:
