    From experience the best constructed ones are useless if they are place wrong .Out the wind but more importantly ,out of view of the public as well as the go anywhere brigade in short they need to be kept quiet.Concrete blocks rub the terriers shoulders badly mind if narrow.

    Some of the Plummerites are now confessing to not owning all rounders ,something so far that has been missing .I wouldnt want an end to these posts as its good to discuss lol.I would say 95% of Plummer owners never have earthwork in mind when buying one but are over the moon if it does go whereas 95% of black terrier owners expect it and are pissed off when they dont .Physically Plummers seem to have it all ,mentally maybe the King Charles Spanial let them down .I would love to see a Plummer go ,earthwork so if any of you fancy a day out please dont hold back .

    The reason i got a plummer is they are a multi purpose terrier more than most others are,ok earthwork is the main reason for keeping a working terrier but not many folk have lots of earthwork to go at so use a terrier that can turn it's hand to other task's easier than the more usual breeds of terrier.Not many pats or lakies will turn their hands to ferreting or bushing or even other tasks where they have to think a bit more but i have found my plummer can and does,i have well bred russells for my earth work and they do me just fine but i know if there's a tight spot and there's a fox at home

    Roughly speaking ,how long to set a mole trap and do any of you use any form of catch flags so you need only glance to check them .Only interested as my job revolves around time spent on any one job .

    Maybe its regarding ratting as work that keeps the plummer just a bushing ,ratting creature .Im no stranger to numbers of rats and have seen many types of dogs doing the deed including Plummers .Ratting is good for a dog ,rats in numbers are a test of stamina but shouldnt be confused with terrierwork proper.

    From memory the man himself was filthy as were his kennels ,well makeshift kennels anyway but no exscuse for filth .I was 20 when i met him ,at Lowther show if memory is correct .He was full of himselfand goaded one bloke into a rat contest with some serious money riding on it ,£500 which was a huge amount back then .     All the load sizes are relevant but what i would add is that calling foxes and shooting with a shotgun isnt that simple unless you want injured stuff about which is nobodies aim .If a fox is running in nicely then wait til its under 30yds for a frontal shot .Personally i like to wait until they spin side on as they invariably do and shoot them in the body mass rather than head neck front on .All vital organs are exposed and takes all if not most of the pattern .Shotgunning is not a method for big bags IME but used with a rifle it can account for those that come screaming in and would otherwis

    All i will say is that if he appears in as many lines as the paperwork says he never had time to get dug .Take all the hype with a pinch of salt as he was only a typically hard terrier of the time moved on by money men .Heard the dog spoke of as if he were a god .Plenty about then and now of the same .
