  1. It's a strange one Marshman and surely one that nobody really knows the answer to. This little tale has reminded me of something my original 'mentor' once said to me. I had a first season terrier that really started well, he was going great and I ended up going on invites with lads to big old earths with a reputation about them, such was my belief in the young dog, and he always got the result. Anyway I remember being out one day digging and we were talking about an earth that goes to 12/13 foot deep, and this 'older lad' said I'd be able to dig it with my young dog, I said he must be jok
  2. I think Didriksen's writing style isn't too bad, however I think there's a few untruthful tales in his first book. Also, sure I read on here a few years back the he had someone over with dogs or something a few years back.( F Stacey I think it was)
  3. Never mind all this lark, I won with first fox, so what do I win Neil?
  4. He's a nice dog Shane, looks short but strong with it, good head too.
  5. Is the white dog a Russell or a white Patterdale DC?
  6. Had this one for just after 9am, it was more of a pleasure to be out on a New Years day without the hangover
  7. Where can we get these badges Andy? And you're correct, it's a lovely gesture.
  8. Amen, I feel your pain and know exactly what you mean about same lads checking same old earths. A little foot work goes a long way...
  9. A few shandies in the house and out with the terriers New Years morning all being well
  10. Keep these posts coming Barrie, really make good historical reading and a refreshing change on this site. Thanks. Would Judy be the same bitch Didriksen owned and mentions in his first book?
  11. Thanks for such an in depth response Barrie, it's nice to hear from someone who actually 'lived it' rather than passed on something they heard. Whatever happened to Bert's grandson then, did he carry on in his Grandfather's footsteps?
  12. What a refreshing thing to read on here. Slow and steady is the way Starting Out
  13. I just must be terrible at making them, mine never come out looking so good!
  14. That looks lovely, but would fill me for 2 days! Can I ask, how do you make your eggs? As they always look perfect.
  15. I like the bit at the end of the programme where Bert's Grandson tells all about their poaching exploits
  16. Just watching Oliver, Home Alone next.
  17. 1979 it says I think MM. And Liam you're right about the roof of the mouth thing, a lot of good knowledge has been lost with that generation. I've a mate who's older than me, and he always says he likes a terrier with dark eyes, he says the darker the eyes the better the worker! I don't know how much truth is in it but it's something I sub-consciously make a note of.
  18. Plenty of fly by night w*nkers about, they want the best breeding but aren't willing to put the time and effort into them, always on the want for the next best thing and chopping and changing dogs. These fools usually come and go within 3 -4 years, but the damage they do and good pups they waste is a disgrace. Keep the circles tight, I'd rather put down pups than risk giving them to such people.
