  1. I work in a recycling place and the stuff I've had is unreal. All my digging tackle...shovels, chain leads, clips, mesh and wood for runs. A shed full of new and almost new tools. Someone brought in an almost new pair of Meindl Burmas the other day, must have been worn twice at most, a size too big for me but with insoles in and a thick pair of socks they fit like a glove.
  2. Nice pups, Dee they look like they're going to be strong like 'Bodie'...
  3. tell your mate ,....hes a liar......... Ok boss. Wasn't bragging, just adding to the topic...
  4. I think the last Otter dug legally was by Bert Gripton in '73, there's a pic in a few books of him holding it's 'pad'.
  5. Most I've had in a stop is 3, got a mate who had 11 in a stop, that's the most I've heard of...
  6. That's good going. I think it all depends on how much good permission you have, added with how many decent dogs you have around you that get the dig numbers up throughout a season. I've heard of some lads that dig 200+ head of game a season. Unbelievable numbers to an average terrierlad, but if you're a professional terrierman, in the the right counties with a decent yard of dogs then the world's your oyster!
  7. It all boils down to a persons judge of character when giving pups out IMO. You would only give a pup to someone that (you thought) you could trust to bring it on and have the right amount of work for it and give the dog every chance etc etc, otherwise you wouldn't give them the dog, and if they f****d you over or went against their word then they wouldn't be given the chance again and to me that's the only time when gifting pups out that it can go wrong, which IMO would be a very small percentage of the time as that person would have been vouched for by another trusted friend etc etc and woul
  8. My granddad used to dig badgers(when it was legal) and help the terrierman at the local hunt (South Durham) aswell as having a couple of lurchers for hare coursing, however by the time I was old enough to take notice he just had ferrets and did the odd bit of rabbiting so I suppose it's in the blood as much as if you're brought up amongst it...
  9. I'd email him, usually next day delivery with his books.
  10. Same here, decent book so far with some good interviews in.
  11. Just how it should be, good luck with them...
  12. I've got the new book, quality as per usual from DH, he certainly knows how to put his thoughts and theories onto paper...best author bar none IMO.
  13. That's a nice sight to greet you...
  14. I can't fault any of Darcy's books, always a decent read, good photos and portray our sport in a good, humane way...
  15. I won't feed bread myself, I like them to have flesh and bones. Hovis or Kingsmill?
  16. To me good breeding is the start of the jigsaw, then bringing on a pup and getting it out amongst everyday things progressing onto out coupled up on digs as it gets older, then when you think it's ready letting it go and hoping it has the drive, nose, determination etc. to see the job through until it's dug to is what makes a digging dog. I think a dogs upbringing bears a big resemblance onto how the dog will turn out as the final product, not saying all dogs make the grade but a good upbringing and confidence in it's owner helps a dog to be a better finished article IMO.
  17. I think people that are going to pay high prices for dogs are going to want to make their money back, meaning that the pup will be bred from regardless of how good (or shite) it turns out to be, just to recoup some of the coin. Free to trusted mates is the best way IMO.
  18. Well said, dog theft seems a bigger thing in Ireland than it is over here for some reason?
  19. I remember the 'Red' dog off the old Patterdale site, a lad on there called 'Taffy' owned it I think if it's the same dog.
  20. I think it does matter, I wouldn't like to think I was breeding to a certain line or dog and then getting told 3 or 4 generations later that the breeding was wrong.
  21. Fair play Glyn, heard good thing's about Chaz and Tilly...
  22. Downsouth I was told that 'Billy' was out of N's 'Charlie'? L' up here that had 'Molly' said she was 'Billy's' litter sister and N' gave her him when she was a pup.
