Labour MP threatens to ban ferreting and lamping
chartpolski replied to skycat's topic in General Talk
I remember Patricia Hewitt was interviewed when she was a Labour MP and Minister. She said it was the Labour Party's aim not only to ban hunting, but also shooting and fishing !! She then made a complete idiot of herself by also saying she would like pet ownership banned !! Including dogs, cats, horses, budgies, etc. When they realised what a vote looser that would be, (angling is the biggest participator sport in the UK), The Labour party said that was her view only, but didn't deny wanting to abolish shooting and fishing !! So whenever anyone thinks of voting Labour, remember this. Cheer -
Don't realy understand, mate ? Why "needless to say you turned round and went home" ? Cheers.

So on the way back, were they both off the slip at the same time? If so, did they both chase at the same time on the same bunny in the beam? Would you be fearful of collisions causing injury or scraps breaking out between the dogs? To answer your questions one at a time; 1; Yes. 2; It wasn't "bunnies" I was out for. 3; No. 4; Definately no. Cheers.

This is like being to be able to call a dog off quarry mid chase ! Is it good training....... or lack of heart/drive ? I tend towards the latter. Cheers.

whippet x greyhounds are useless ?
chartpolski replied to CallumDonohoe's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'd hazzard a guess that anyone who says "Whippet X Greys are useless"; has no, or very limited, experience of them !! Cheers. -
I admire a man and dog that can TRULY work without a slip ! I was out last night, local, just me and two of the dogs. I worked them individualy, from the slip on the way out; but on the way back I had them off the slip. They stay within 5' to10' of me, and looked down the beam.... until there is something in the beam, and then they are OFF !! LOL !! So I wouldn't consider that "working without a slip" ! but as I say, well done to those who can TRULY work a dog without a slip !! Cheers.

Saw a real-tree Range Rover at the Yorkshire Game Fair !! As they say, if you are rich enough, and daft enough, (professional footballer), then why not ?? LOL !! Cheers.

Floyd mate; there's an old saying ........" When you're in a hole; the best way out is to stop digging " !! LOL !! Cheers.

Basicaly, some people won't entertain a "yapper" for two reasons; 1, they draw unwanted attention; and 2, they can't be giving 100% in the chase if they are barking at the quarry. If you are on permission and don't mind the dog not performing at it's very best, and you are happy with the dog otherwise, then why not enjoy it for what it is ? Cheers.

For two dogs, I'd say you got off lightly, compared to the Vets around here !! Nails; do them yourself, wormers; buy them off the 'net, (Vetmedics), a fraction of the Vet price ! Cheers.

Did the guy explain why he put Harrier into the mix ? Seems a very strange choice, as it just about guarantee that the pups will have a good chance of opening up ! Also, I would be very unhappy if I bought a dog thinking it had certain breeding, then found out it had Harrier in it ! Cheers.

By not being willing to travel; you severly restrict the chances of getting the right dog ! Cheers.

Hi Dave ! I was out yesterday morning walking the stubble, then went to Westerhope Whippets. Whippet Open At Cambois Greyhound Track.
chartpolski replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The problem was, Lee, that Highgate had a Whippet Open planned for today, then cancelled; so the Cambois one was organised.... then Highgate decided they WOULD run !! So as the Cambois people had hired the track, bought trophies, etc, they had to go ahead, so the runners were split between the two !! Bad organisation ? Who knows ? By the way, Mazouma may be from your breeding !! I think, though not sure, he is by Wor John, the Whippet; out of Florence the Greyhound. I remember you breeding something along these lines ??? Cheers. -

Whippet Open At Cambois Greyhound Track.
chartpolski replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Had a look there today, unfortunately a small turn out, around 20 dogs. A shame, as it was well organised, and decent trophies. Still, there was some good racing, and my favourite, R.Ch. Mazouma, didn't let me down and won the Dog Section, but sadly split a web and couldn't race in the Supreme Final; he did do an excellent time of 15.10 in his heat, a time the Greyhounds would have been proud of; and he's just 28 lb !! It's a shame more dogs aren't racing, and it will be a sad day if Whippet Racing is consigned to memory only !! Cheers. -
If they are only a year old, your own dog will still be a pup and a "learner" as far as work goes ! So it's litter sister will not be far behind ! Give it a go mate; but working two young dogs together will be a handfull !! Cheers.
