  1. I would love to have a day wandering around with a metal detector,...it seems to a curious a form of hunting..? We were out on a mouch yesterday, right out in a wild old place, and there was a line of chaps, working right across a muddy field,.. they were all 'heads down',.. using detectors . I was sorely tempted to ask them if I could have a quick go,.. but I didn't....? Stay safe now lads,. all the best, OldPhil..?
  2. ? That looks very nice...I have always envied practical guys,...I am not practical....at all...?
  3. ? We are all individuals,...no set rules for everyman...? Last night could have been 'Red Panty Night',.. but after 47 years of marriage,. I chose to celebrate our anniversary at the Mowchat Tandoori, with a beautiful Chicken Jalfrezi .. I have no regrets, spending my life with one woman,...I had plenty of action in my youth, so I have no complaints? Facts are, its great when you change from constant fecking to priceless friendship,....I would be lost without my Wife.... Stay safe now Brothers,. all the best, OldPhil.?
  4. Sounds idyllic,...I don't get out much these days,...wish I was there?
  5. It's great , especially after a break, ..to see your jukel fully recovered... I've had quite a few dogs sustain injuries, and its always heart in the mouth time,. when you finally get back out in the field.. Looks as though your pal has had a victory..? But, maybe encourage her to take the easy way out, and go to the right of that metal gate.... All the best for the future, stay safe,. regards, OldPhil.?
  6. Its has been a curious old season? I think the Hibernating Queens came out a tad early, and got hit hard by the first frosts in May...? I am between 400 and 500 hundred nests down, on my usual tally.... Luckily a few hundred, regular customers remembered me and kindly called, so all is not lost.... Maybe next year we will all be millionaires,...ya never know? Stay safe now lads, all the best, OldPhil.
  7. Can you imagine what that poor girls parents must be going through,...time and time again,..their minds must be in turmoil and probably will remain so, until they die. Personally,..I do not hold with all this civilised society malarkey,...I feel that in this instance,.the cruel creature should have been quickly put down.... Of course,.do gooders and sundry snowflakes will always say, "Yes, but would you be prepared to do the deed".... Er,..yes,..no fecking probs....?
  8. Theoretically,..that small jaw spread of the BMI 55 would seem to be ideal for a grey squirrel getting his head into,.and then,..crack,..lights out..? I have had good results when this has occurred, especially when using the trap in soffits or small gap entrance holes in roof spaces, where the animal is forced to place his head into that crucial kill point,...but, other than that,..I'm not confident of a quick, clean,...humane kill...? Early on , when I first brought these wee traps over from the States,.I wanted to have evidence (for various Governing bodies?) that these traps were
  9. When hunting squirrels in woodland, I school the dogs to 'go round' and stand opposite to me... The Greys frequently try to hide behind the trunk of the tree, and they will often keep moving around, as you move...? The dogs looking up at them,..fool them, and then the bushy tails generally offer a nice easy target..? As for gundog based lurchers,.. I used to have some grand old times walking out with Thistle... She was a Whippet /Grey x Labrador and I saw her catch all manner of critters? Her retrieving was, as expected,..totally on point,..and she was a joy to hunt al
  10. I must try to find a Farm that is using a Hoof Trimmer,...do ALL Beef and Dairy farms employ such a person, or do they trim their cattle themselves, 'in house'?
  11. Its curious, that for a man who has spent a lot of time around farms and holdings, that I have been entirely ignorant about an important aspect of livestock husbandry...? The recent lockdown and a plethora of 'time on my hands' has allowed me to tune into many subjects, that I have never bothered with before... I would not say that I am truly addicted , or even mildly obsessional,.but for some crazy reason, I really enjoy watching this guy at work...? https://www.youtube.com/c/TheHoofGP Stay safe now lads,..all the best, OldPhil?
  12. Fair play,..that is a beautiful Collie..?
  13. WOW? I've not bought a pup for decades,...I never realised, just how much money these hybridised running dogs and pure bred Herders actually go for....I am genuinely shocked Obviously, time and current prices for working dogs, has simply passed me by... If I do decide to go round, just one more time,...I guess I am gonna need,.. a bigger wallet.? All the best lads, stay safe now, regards, OldPhil ?
  14. Sorry to hear your sad news Brother.... Keep on,..keeping on,...stay safe,..all the best, OldPhil?
  15. Difficult to access what your Australian localised rate should be? All I would advise, is that you take into consideration your travelling time , cost of fuel etc, and obviously your required $'s for undertaking the job... Obviously,..rabbit control for wages, is a completely different proposition to hunting for the craic,....it can get kinda, stressful....? I wish you great success, all the best, OldPhil.?
  16. Hi mate,...yeah,..as you would undoubtedly know,...Heelers are usually real suspicious of strangers, and usually make good guards,..they seem to do this instinctively.? My original stock was incredibly varied,.not only in their basic physique, but also in temperament. My old bitch Speckle was kind and gentle, and although she would sometimes rag feral cats and foxes, she rarely killed a rabbit and never raised a growl, at a human...Mind you, I brought her up real soft and was always good to her. Others I've had, would certainly guard, attack, and unfortunately bite, nosey folk.
  17. Too right Cobber? I bred these types back in the 1980's,...worked them all over the UK,..I reckon I got my money's worth?
  18. Beautiful to see,.and to hear?
  19. The ferret was wearing a Mk3 Collar, and the old Grey Wolf worked a treat for me...?
  20. Don't worry,..I doubt the noose will ever die...?
  21. The decision should be in the hands of the poor fecker that is suffering,..its got nothing to do with anyone else...? Our job, (their job)...is to end the suffering as humanely,.. as is possible...?
  22. Posted Sunday at 13:21 "I was walking a pup I had in the valleys and happened into a chap who was shooting a bit close to me, to warn me away from walking near a field or whatever, so I went over to chat as he was shouting at me lol. Turns out he was the local go to guy to have a dog shot, and told stories of dogs being shot on the lead unexpectedly by their owner etc who didn't want to witness the deed, this although odd to tell a stranger wasn't anything particularly odd, but then told me of his bull X's and how his best bitch spat a fox at 9 years old and had been a
