Love that. Wish my Mrs could do that

Lovely bit of the world. Spent a bit of time up there before it got so hot.

I think it's a good thing to do. I love working dogs and this is just another way of doing it. It's good for deer welfare and the image of hunting too. Anyone who shoots enough deer will occasionally have one that goes wrong. We are here for that. We have tracking teams dotted around the country who will turn out and do there best to help find wounded deer when asked to do so. I track almost every deer I shoot, assess the shot site etc, it's brought a whole new side into my stalking and I've learnt loads off the guys. Dog loves it too

I'm a UKDTR member, my tracking dog is a lurcher, the only one on their register, and we do a few call outs a year. I've never found the other members snobby but I've never read that bit on the website either lol. I don't reckon the deer knows or cares whether it's my lurcher or someone else's hound or lab that tracks it. Being a lurcher gives mine some advantages if the wounded deer is still mobile too.

That's a bloody shame, sorry to hear it. Hope he comes good for you

Absolutely! 3 weeks with the wife fishing and exploring then she goes home and my mate flys out for the next 3 weeks. That will be spent pig hunting, deer shooting and more fishing!

I'm out there again in the spring, North Island this time though but if I get time might try and get back south too

It'll be handy for your NZ trip, is that all booked yet?

If I ever bred a litter, which i have no plans to do, any I couldnt place with people I know would cost just that kind of money to ensure the buyers actually valued the pup

I wouldn't worry about the cost of buying it, you've got to be able to keep it. Sure you've thought this through?

I don't have two accounts. You do like throwing the accusations round don't you? Got anything to base either of them on or do you just have nothing else to say?
-
Based on what? That's quite an accusation?

Sounds nice. Wish we had free salmon rivers round here!

Chub not chin

I use 2g jig heads from decathlon and a mixture of soft plastics from tronix or ebayed from China. Fluro leader and 10lb braid. I only really got into it a year ago, caught perch, pike, chin, bass and Pollack on the same gear. Love it

Mine is silent when working. Never yapped once, noisy little shit the rest of the time though. When we got him I was told he would be too slow for rabbits and too small for anything else. He proved that wrong time and time again

I have a whippet x Russell. He is 11 now but in his day was an awesome dog. If I could clone him to get another the same I wouldn't hesitate.

Fair play. It's good to see the veterans still working. I have a dog here who is 11, i dont do much on the lamp with him but he is still more than capable in the daytime. Sad they get old really
-
That looks amazing, a proper adventure! What you planning to do with a red deer if you catch it? Fair old carry our!
-
I think id stop lamping and focus on daytime time til you have sorted out a really strong bond and the retrieving. A few daytime sucesses help to make the two of you a team. Once its in the dogs head that you are part of the hunting rather than just the driver there is more readon to co operate

I haven't read all this thread but i have actually lived in africa and experienced some limited time on a big game hunting concession and as part of an anti poaching effort. BH and savanna are right. The best protected and managed wildlife i saw was on a hunting conession in mozambique and the worst were in newly 'liberated' farms. The fact is that conservation has to be funded and african nations have other priorities. They only way to maintain conservation is private funding through charity, tourism and, if viable, hunting. How you feel about the people who pull the trigger i

Good to see different kinds of hunting

Humans are shit in general, most would be more useful rendered down and sold as bio diesel. Very eco friendly. Those ones are particularly deserving of that treatment.
