  1. Wow ?, I have just read all of that, so tony juniper has come to the conclusion that this situation is way beyond his skill level and has passed the buck to Michael gove, who’s office will now be collecting information and evidence as to the best way to proceed with the GL, they will be doing this until the 13th of may and then taking another week to come to their conclusion, this is for a license that will be reviewed again at the end of the year, so where does this leave us with the new GL’s that have already been released, I would of thought that as they were not pasted by the secretary for
  2. The simple answer is they can’t, 99% of people won’t even understand what the GL is and the legality of it
  3. I agree with most of what you have said but up here the jackdaws and rooks are a real problem around the farm, For me I would like to see all the corvids on a pest list along with pigeons, I wouldn’t have a problem with jays not been classed as a pest, we will just have to see if defra come up with any bright ideas
  4. That thumbs up isn’t for the bunch of tw*ts getting hammered before driving off home ?
  5. I’ve got no idea if that’s a good thing or not because them bloody idiots don’t listen to farmers ether, I guess we will wait and see
  6. I’m working on a farm now and we have been having a chat about the GL and the farmers response was, we manage the land and it’s up to you if you want to help us out, fair comment
  7. That’s normal, then it’s reviewed or renewed
  8. The pigeon license reads well, it’s a crop protection licence the line in it that in my opinion you should take notice of is “ if serious damage is occurring or is reasonably expected to occur in the absence of licensed action “ the Canada license is a public health issue, nothing about them grazing fields off so in that respect they would fall under the wildfowl season for me, I can understand why the are doing species specific licensing it makes sense to me not to put them all under the same license as a lot of them create an individual problem, I’d be interested to see what the jay and mag
  9. I’ve just had a read through it and it’s not a million miles away from what I was expecting it to say, some of the most important words in it to me are “ is reasonably expected to occur in the absence of licensed action “ this reads to me as prevention, you know the problem is coming so why wait until it arrives
  10. It has only been over the past year or so that I have ever put anything on line in relation to my shooting, this debacle has made me think twice of posting any of my “shooting adventures” which to me is a shame as to me what I do I consider to be a service to the countryside and to conservation, it makes me sad to think that most people are so detached from where their food comes from and have very little understanding that a land that has been so intensively farmed needs to be carefully managed and if I was to show people a small part of this I’m considered to be evil, yet they are willing to
  11. What were you using, a punt gun ? to be fair that is one of the stupidest statements NE have come out with and wave a gun shaped stick at them and dress as a scarecrow, no wait I retract that, there’s loads of them all as equally as stupid as the next ?
  12. I have been guilty myself of not following the GL and also not understanding some of it, if you read into it there is so many grey areas that can be interpreted in many different ways, what I would like to see is pigeon and corvid classed as a pest species and treated in the same way as rabbit/fox/gray squirrel, I don’t think we would ever get to a point where the numbers were low enough to remove them from the GL or to go back to this mess we are in now, I also wouldn’t have a problem with the need for a personal license for the control of Canada and jays, I would also accept Canada’s to be s
  13. Yep, I was thinking both those things ?
  14. Just a generic letter no doubt sent to hundreds of people, what gives this away is I used my name on the letter yet I’m referred to as the complainant, they haven’t even done what they said by starting the release of the licenses by Monday, this just goes to show the complete ineptitude of these people, they didn’t need to act in the way they did and create this mess, WJ asked for license changes in 2020, giving plenty of time to get this right, I’m sure if I was this incompetent I would be for the chop but I’m guessing these people will carry on taking there excessive pay while making a bigg
  15. Well, a reply from NE complaints department and I don’t know why they bothered, the link in the email is to NE’s press release saying they are working hard to sort the new GL and this is there final response on the subject, I would of had more respect for them if they just told me to f*ck off ?
  16. I’d didn’t know that lapua made .22 subs and at that price I wouldn’t want to know, I’d definitely give the Norma a go ?
  17. Jesus, that’s way over the top lapua for a rimfire ?
  18. Keep at them chap, by protecting the livestock in accordance with the GL you are also looking after the native bird species at this nesting time, nice work ?
  19. Well it’s been 5 days now since the licenses were pulled and all NE have managed to cobble together is one GL for the control of crows, we were told that the licenses would start to be reissued by Monday but have seen nothing, I suppose this has something to do with the people running NE have a server conflict of interest regarding previous employment, at this time of year the nesting fowl are having a hard enough time without there nests been raided, so what to do, do I wait it out for a couple more days or do I go through the rigmarole of the personal license form with the bloke who owns the
  20. The behaviour of some people is disgusting and they are not part of any shooting community I belong to, I can’t stand the man and when horrible things happen to him it gives me a warm feeling inside but these acts are not helping one bit, I’ve never been of the opinion that you should shoot it just because you can and there should always be a reason for doing so, on some of my permission we have jays, I don’t shoot these because they are not in significant numbers where as the magpies are a major problem, I feel if more people were aware of what’s around them then the different species could b
  21. I know for the foreseeable future I will be doing what is asked of me, I’m not saying I’m going to break the law or go against the GL but for me the people who work/farm the countryside know how to look after it, it’s just a terrible shame that it has to be such a taboo subject and god forbid you actually enjoy what you do
  22. I had that discussion about decoying with my farmer mate yesterday and he agreed with me that the best time to shoot pigeon is on the stubble and to decoy them in, although at this time they are not coursing any damage, he would argue that this is prevention and a very good way of knocking the numbers back before the winter/spring crops go in, you know the problem is coming so why wait until it arrives ?
  23. I read it as, as the last resort is to shoot them the owner of the livestock will of taken the preventative steps before asking the likes of me and you to dispatch them in a humane manner and as for a record of the steps taken what do they want “ on Tuesday I waved a flag at them nasty crows and Wednesday we used a banger until they wised up to it, as for what has been shot I’d leave that for the owner to document
