  1. Good on you for getting out, the weathers looking decent over the weekend up here, we need a few days for the water to get away, some of the roads I’ve been down today were under 12” of water and it’s just run off from the fields
  2. I might be starting to loose my sh*t, I’m working with the other quad key holder and it is lashing down, I thought we’d be off home, came back from collecting a few bits and he’s done this, they know how to spoil me
  3. I’m surprised they haven’t had it converted to run on coal, they are that tight, I had a little dig at one of the other lads that I’d put petrol in it AGAIN and instead of saying he’d put some in next time, he just said bill the shoot for it, I said it was 6 quid and he replied “ I would bill the shoot “, ?this is what I’m working with
  4. Just another thought, but have you considered a shotgun to begin with, days on the clays mingling with people that are also involved in game shooting, farm pest control and the likes, get to know them and offer your help, the more people you get to know the more opportunities may come your way, best of luck getting to where you want to be ?
  5. It belongs to the shoot Dave, well sort of, only 3 of us have keys for it and I think there’s only me who puts petrol in it, but we did convince the members to let us use the shoots funds to pay for it ??
  6. This is just my little bit to chip in as the others have covered the application side well, do you know anyone that shoots? That would maybe show you the ropes, don’t take this the wrong way but it worries me when people say want a rifle and want to go hunting, we all started at the bottom, most with help from people already involved with shooting, mentors are a fantastic way to to learn, I take a young lad out now and by the time he comes to apply for his own FAC he will have the experience they are looking for and I will also vouch for him, if you don’t know anyone then I would recomme
  7. Your more than welcome mate, I’ve always liked to give people the opportunity to have a go at some new shooting, just like some people did for me in the past, one thing that has always bothered me about shooting and the shoot community is that some treat it like a secret society not allowing outsiders or people who are trying to get involved in, shooting is and should be for everyone who wants to be involved ?
  8. Don’t have second thoughts, you can never have to many rifles, if you didn’t spend it on some useful hardware the missus would only buy frivolous things with it ?
  9. Back to the sheep farm tonight and straight out with the vixen in heat call, 10 minutes in and we have a customer, now I’m 99% sure we have met this chap before, it came from the same direction as the one we didn’t get a shot at last time and I’m convinced this is the one my mate took a shot at previously and missed, it was really interested in the call but would only work it’s way along the wrong side of the hedge or sit in the back field approximately 160 yards away just on the top of the hill, not presenting a shot as I would be shooting towards next doors farm, after 30 minutes it decided
  10. Arr got you, in that case I’d put it in random places with some stinky bait and hope for the best ?
  11. You can’t kill them all mate, you may of missed a few but you were not the only one, I know there was a fair few inexperienced guns there yesterday but Andrew has just told me the shot count and for 44 birds it’s mental, but everyone had a good day and that’s all that matters ?
  12. I always put mine along a fence line or around some trees, always well away from the public if I can, sometimes it’s a bit hit and miss what I catch on it, I’ll normally give it a week to 10 days in any one spot
  13. My missus would ring my neck if I was responsible for the demise of pet tree rats
  14. That really looks like a roe, I’ve never seen a young muntjac, I thought the ears didn’t look right, I retract my previous statement ?
  15. Late births are not uncommon in roe, but this this little chap is about 5 months late and sadly probably won’t see the winter out, they normally give birth the end of may beginning of June, I’ve seen them in late September but never in November
  16. They have been having a right old time of it Gav, those days are over now, you can really see the damage to the trees, I’ve never seen this amount up here, forestry used to trap them but they don’t seem to bother now, we will definitely be having a squirrel day once the season has finished and until then I’ll be making a conscious effort to shoot every one I see to top it off I got home and this little beggar was hiding his nuts in my garden, this is what you get when the missus feeds them
  17. Feeding up this morning and there’s still a blanket of low cloud, the birds have made there way back into the main drives and those that survived the barrage of shots yesterday are back on the feeders and seem none the worse for there experience, perhaps a little on edge and not wanting to hang around for a photo opportunity but who can blame them, with the next time we shoot been half way through our season we are now concentrating on feeding the long drives with the heavy cover that hold the majority of the birds, all we can hope for now it cold weather and a clear day next time out, but loo
  18. On the way home from feeding up, I’ve checked the camera for my little mates first fox and nothing but a hare and a couple of pheasants, the rabbit bait was still there so I’m guessing this ginger has bit the dust on its nightly travels, so I’m ether going to have to wait until another turns up or come up with another plan, I would prefer it to be here because I can afford a miss here, I’ve brought the camera away with me as the batteries were going flat, I might set it up on the bottom end of the land to see if that produces anything over the next week or so
  19. Up at the pheasant shoot to feed up and shot another 11 squizzers, the 5 in the picture were all shot outside the farm house on my arrival and all within 60 seconds , 5 quick shots, 5 dead tree rats ?
  20. Now that’s day three over and it was certainly a wet one, from the moment we got there the rain didn’t stop, 44 was the bag, I managed 8 myself and the rain didn’t seem to stop them getting above the trees, providing some nice sporting birds, everybody got some shooting which is always good to see, as we moved out to the back of the shoot the cloud lowered as you can see in the picture, that’s longshanx on the next peg to me, on this drive you could hear the birds coming long before you could see them, it was a early finish today, so all back down to the pub for a warm, a drink and a few nibbl
  21. Check the camera again tonight and one rabbit gone but nothing on the camera, so I’ve repositioned it on the tree and baited with another rabbit, it seems a bit hit and miss when the bait is going, I’ll check on Sunday and if the bait is still there I’ll have to come up with another plan for this young lads first fox, I was hoping to have it coming in regularly here because this is one of the few places I can afford for him to miss, but we will see what happens over the next few days
  22. It’s a lucky dip with farmers around here mate, the lads I do vermin control for around here only let me on because I’ve known them for a long time and in the past others that have been on have taken the piss, the best thing to do is knock on doors but be prepared to be turned down a lot, try stables, if they have rabbits they won’t want them around the horses, it’s not easy to get your own permission because farmers generally don’t let people on their land they don’t know, it’s taken me years to build up my land and 90% of it has come from working for the owners, sites like this sometimes hel
  23. Like meece said there’s isn’t a bad rifle, ( well maybe howa but that’s just my opinion, because they fell like a nurf gun ) I’ve never came across one that didn’t kill sh*t, it comes down to what suits you and what you want to spend, maybe go and handle a few, you might find what you like is different to what others like, failing that buy a TIKKA ?
