  1. 3 lovely photos Bernie Sausage, good effort keeping them crows away from them ?
  2. I know this happens year in year out and everything has its place in the food chain but it definitely seems to me that without any control this year it’s seems to have been a very tough time for the birds and fowl, I also understand that many of us didn’t follow the GL correctly but from what I’ve seen over the past weeks we were doing more good than harm, some sensible clear guidelines wouldn’t go amiss
  3. I was back in the village earlier today, as I passed the duck pond I could see a large amount of crows around the edge with 20 or so mallard on the water, I stopped for a moment and couldn’t see one duckling, very sad ?
  4. Well as the weather has put a stop to my night out foxing and I’m now half way through a bottle of jd I thought I’d share with you something that saddened me today, this morning before work I thought I’d treat myself to a sausage sandwich for a posh butchers in my local village, as I was in there waiting to be served I was looking out the window at the duck pond, I noticed a few duckling that were been bothered by crows, now the owner of the butchers seen me watching them and said to me them b*****ds have just about wiped them out, he said as soon as they come off the water they are at them, h
  5. Nice work, just looks like foxy dreams for me as the weather has buggered my night up, still nice to read about other people’s adventures ?
  6. All of my rifles are light and plastic, from the .22 to the .243, I had a heavy barrel.243 and would never have another one unless it was mounted on the truck, when out and about like Deker says you don’t want to be dragging a big lump across a field, there is endless choices from different manufacturers but almost all of them do the same job and are all very accurate, if you just want something functional and classic then it would be the cz for me every time, I also have a Browning T bolt in .17hmr and although it is no better than the cz it does have some nice little touches, straight pull,
  7. If it’s the right price and hasn’t been hammered they are a lovely little rimmy
  8. I have a 455 and I’ve found that all cz’s are very similar ?
  9. I go for the head shot rabbits with the .243, still good eating and you just need to tip them upside to gut them ??
  10. As most of my rifle shooting is pest control and it’s my favourite round I’d go .243 ?
  11. You will never buy a better rimfire than a cz ?
  12. Nice one, welcome to the club ?
  13. I’ve got a 10lt safe for all my extra ammo that doesn’t fit in the gun cabinet , I think it was 25 quid off eBay and firearms are more than happy with it as it’s bolted to the shotgun cabinet
  14. A job well done and another cracking write up, you should write your memoirs of a fox controller, you tell a story very well ?
  15. Yep, you are not wrong, the other lad that runs the shoot could of sold a day for £2000, he already had a team of guns lined up for it with a cap on numbers they could shoot, we could of put another 500 birds down and with the extra £50 we are paying per gun I think we could of given the members 7 days shooting for about £55 a day, I don’t know anywhere you could get shooting like this for that money, but each to there own, it’s a private syndicate so we all have to agree on how the season is going to be run, I think if we let the day we would of struggled for beaters with the miserable old bu
  16. It seems to be a fine day for an early evening wonder ?I’m not jealous at all ? I think I’ll just stay at work for the next 7 hours, my boss looks like he needs the money
  17. I love having a wander out with camera and a rifle, I have confused a few dog walkers in the past when they see me with both and can’t seem to grasp the I don’t shoot everything that moves and that I have an appreciation of wildlife and my surroundings ?
  18. We discussed that and could of let a day to cover a big chunk of our extra costs but some members didn’t want to give up there shooting and there would of been some excuse why they didn’t turn up to beat for a team of guns

  20. That was my argument for replacing the members, but on the other hand we think we can fill the places with people that shoot members know and with inexperienced guns, we did a few days last season where a couple of people came and paid a few quid to see what it was all about and to be fair they were over the moon if they shot a brace
  21. Well we have had our first shoot meeting of the year and everything has gone up, the birds are the biggest jump, up 50p a poult to 4 quid each ?, as I’ve said before we are only a small syndicate and are putting a 1000 birds down this year so that sort of increase make a big difference to us, we have all agreed to pay another £50 each to cover the cost of the birds and with 4 members dropping out we have decided not to replace them and instead offer days to people to come and have a go for £70 ( stand one / beat one ), this could be a good idea or it could go terribly wrong, depending on the p
  22. Most people on our shoot won’t shoot them because they believe the numbers are down but when you are out and about on your own you will see there is a lot about, you will never get a good count during the day, dusk is the time to get an idea of numbers, I also have never tried them for that same reason ?
  23. Put your feet up for the evening you deserve it ? we have the woodcock all year round up here, we do have a couple of days in the season when you can shoot them, but this is left down to the gun’s discretion if the want to and it’s going on the table, we don’t like to see people shooting them because they can, I think the reason I seen so many last night was because forestry are thinning out part of the shoot so I think a few have moved further over because they really don’t like been disturbed
  24. Yeah your not wrong, me having a pee seems to be one of the best animal call I can use well I called it a night without seeing a fox, I did leave some bait on the ride just before I left, a rabbit popped out at 75 yards, so I let it have a 70 grain from the .243, the picture is a little too graphic for here, I should of said I left half a rabbit I left a bit later than I intended because I got a bit distracted watching the woodcock flighting out at dusk I counted 14 that crossed the ride, I love the noise they make as the fly
