  1. Well, I'm just off to Bisley to check a few gun zeros, if the bomb doesn't get me I want to be ready for the troops when they turn up!
  2. I'm still on my 452 HMR. I have several CZ rimfires and for FIELD use I have no need for anything else, they work, are reliable are accurate and quite simply, do the the job. My guns are tools of the trade, I buy what I need, Tikka/Anschutz/Sako/whatever make great guns, but they give me nothing more than CZ for field use, but tend to cost a lot more. Down to individual choice!
  3. Don't understand Putin at all but I do know if the shit hits the fan and somebody pushes the button its the likes of you and me that will cop it whilst the politicians of the world (who started it all) are deep in the comfy bunkers and will most likely survive.
  4. OK, someone tell me what happened when you tried it please? Cheers
  5. That's interesting, I heard folklore of someone who shot out a HMR barrel but never known of one for certain, does anyone else? Been thinking, I use 500-1000HMR a year so I must be around the 10,000 mark, and mine is still accurate and repeatable with no issues!
  6. Everyone will have their own experiences and preferences. I found the 20g zipped right through and led to a handful of runners (they died pretty quick just the same) so you were limited in your shot placement. The V-Max does what the V-Max does pretty well, and is very good at stopping them on the spot, its not so much to do with holding the point of impact, it's terminal effect! My experience!
  7. The only people I know with the Quad use it as a single calibre gun, but as you are after a HMR and it comes with a WMR as well, sounds a deal. Nothing wrong with the gun at all but the Quad side never really took off in the UK, (don't shout, of course the 4 calibre option is useful for some) despite them also having a dedicated scope available to make re-zeroing easier with barrel change. Actually I think it was meant to eliminate re-zeroing with barrel change! I had one on order years back before CZ did a HMR in the American, but the CZ arrived in the UK first!
  8. I've had them to 150 yards with the HMR but that is definitely the exception, I'm very confident to 100 yards and happy enough to 120ish. (although most of mine are much closer) The weather and individual situation has a lot to do with it but the HMR is a very capable fox calibre when used sensibly. Experience has led me to the 17g V-Max for the job!
  9. I don't think mine is going to be far behind you, its already cutting the bottom of the frame on pictures and misses video altogether sometimes!
  10. 12MP Hunting Trail Camera HD 1080P Wildlife Scouting Cam Motion Night Vision | eBay £21 all in! Dont forget you will need batteries and a SD card on top!
  11. The only one I could see there was identical to mine, which I paid about £1-£2 less for all in! Very temperamental, poor quality pictures and video, but does what I need and of course VERY cheap! Check ebay! 12MP Hunting Trail Camera HD 1080P Wildlife Scouting Cam Motion Night Vision | eBay
  12. Caught a hedgehog in pictures on 31 Jan (he had moved out of frame before video) and again on pictures and video on 17 Feb. I thought they were meant to be hibernating, is it really that mild or is my hedgehog an insomniac?
  13. Hope it does the business for you. Generally, I'm not impressed with picture/video quality on mine but then again it does the job and is VERY cheap. I am amazed how sensitive it is, sparrows and a single field mouse set it off.
  14. It will be interesting to hear if the effort actually makes an improvement!
  15. Now that's strange, Remington are commonly awful, especially their .22lr, but I have used Remington HMR a few times and found them ok, and a pall won't use anything else. These days I have to say the vast majority I use are Hornady V-Max. I'm not sure who makes HMR these days, a few years ago CCI made them for just about everyone except Winchester, and there was a time Federal made their own!
  16. I am 200+ split cases with Hornady, I used to keep them until the increasing numbers bored me. I thought I read somewhere recently they had got over the split case issue (something to do with case material tweaking) anyway, are these new or old cartridges?
  17. It can be a useful calibre, seems to have rather fallen out of favour over the years, don't hear much about the 17 Hornet now either, has that drifted away?
  18. It must have been interesting trying to explain that to the car Insurance company!
  19. It does make you wonder sometimes, our job can be difficult but often you simply need to be observant!
  20. Traps and shooting if you can, squirrels can often be persuaded into traps quite easily! Shouldn't' take long to sort that out!
  21. Amazing what you can do with a bit of Dulux!
  22. Mine has Duracell's in at the moment but it does say you can also run it from a 5vDC supply, (4 x AA batteries should be 6V). I will be giving the rechargeable batteries a try, they tend to be in the order if 1.2v each so a hint under the 5v it can be run with, worth a try, who knows what will happen!
  23. Here you go... its at the bottom on the unit (What looks like a little black line on the picture) and is the push in type.....push for in and it locks, push again and it springs out. Its still a bit fiddly for big fingers! Also a picture from this morning, that's the first of a string of 5, you can just see the tail leaving the frame, the other 4 had nothing, and neither did the video which takes after the pictures. I can drop the pictures down less than a string of 5 but doesn't seem a lot of point so far as wildlife seems to be virtually gone even before the first image is take
  24. Here you go, a quick update, it is cheap and cheerful, picture quality is poor, but still much better than the images you see in the Big Cat Sighting thread. Delay from activation to first picture seems an eternity, with several animals almost out of frame before first picture. Situation and circumstances will change a lot so this may improve. No long term review available yet as only had it a few days, and it's not been out in anything but the lightest drizzle so far. I'll keep an eye on it and continue tests, but not rushing to buy any more at the moment.
