  1. I actually like a clear night and full moon, never seemed to be a problem. I can also remember a fare few full moon nights I have gone all night with just the scope, rather than any lighting or NV used at all!
  2. Whatever, I have a large farm a couple of miles north east of Oxford. All the other usual suspects, but Roe, Fallow, and Muntjac, in that order. A few Hare as well, that is uncommon for me as I next to never see any in Berkshire!
  3. Not used 200gn, 180 heaviest I've used, but the 150 work fine for me anyway!
  4. Never really found a need for anything but CZ for field use, and never found a need to upgrade to newer models, all mine are 452...except the bottom semi, a Magtech! (it was daft cheap, about £125 brand new I remember).
  5. .308 has been around for a long time for good reason! It does a lot of things well and is generally easy to find with a decent selection of weights/types. Just the same it's what works well for any individual in their circumstances. 6.5 Creedmoor is about and works for many as well. I got my .308 primarily for Boar and Target fun, occasional deer, (I have never really found a specific need for it on deer in the UK, my .243 has always been fine) but .308 hits the Boar hard and they fall down. (it needs to hit them hard, they "can" be bulky and tough, much tougher than deer)
  6. I'm with you all, and the time I've spent looking for small rimfire cases in long grass as well.....how is it you see them land, go to pick them up and they have disappeared???
  7. It is strange, I don't shoot as many deer as some of you but steady, I don't have issues with my landowners, the Deer are seen as "pests" on all the sites I deal with them. That almost always means they have a cost negativity to the owners, either tree, grass, fence, animal feed, crop, whatever damage, so there is no love lost! Anyway, the thought of something along the lines of a DSC being mandatory is disheartening to say the least!!
  8. Magpie, squirrel, rabbit, fox, deer on this estate, specifically just here, rabbit!
  9. Sitting and waiting, sitting and waiting, we all have days like it, just after 19.00 through to 20.00, not a sign!!! Actually the whole Estate was quiet from earlier to much later, one of those days!!!
  10. Well, a lot of it makes sense, but there is a strong suggestion that everyone who shoots deer will need to be qualified! Presumably DSC, unless they come up with something different. I have never been a fan of DSC, (if you want to do it fine, but mandatory, NO!) and I know a lot of Gamekeepers on Large High Profile Estates that don't have them, so how will all that work then? 11. Yes, but I want the proper thing, or similar from a third party!
  12. Anyway, anyone know where I can get a recoil pad for a Remington 700 SPS PLEASE?
  13. To be honest, mine has done me well, accurate and reliable, but now the silly recoil pad issue. I am looking to replace it with a Tikka to join my 2 others, simply because I want to, no particular issues. I bought it new about 11 years ago and whoever ends up with it will get a good one.....even Remington make occasional good ones!
  14. Seems to be a reasonable selection of pads for them in the US (and not keen to ship to UK) but the UK as always is sadly lacking.
  15. Its the stock and pad combination, that's the problem, its not about sanding a pad to fit specifically, although that would be a bit tricky. The pad has a protruding lip all round so it locates snugly into the stock. Most universal fitting pads have a flat back so very difficult to size/sand/fit snugly.
  16. Its a Synthetic stock, so not as easy to do that as on a wooden stock!
  17. HI everyone, I could do with your help please. I understand this is a common problem so the solution should be easy, but so far it isn't. My 700 SPS Recoil pad is going soft and sticky, whilst also being crisp in part, basically useless. Any ideas where I can get a new one please? Remington used to supply replacements on an industrial scale to end users but that all stopped last time they went bust (2020). Cheers
  18. Never owned a Pump! Actually, I think I've only ever shot one once, many years ago, its a distant memory. Cleanings a bit easier I guess (than semi) and they seem quite popular is the US, but not vast quantities in the UK.
  19. Magpies have always been an issue but steadily over the years I'm getting more calls about them. As we all know they can be difficult, but the decoys and a few eggs, and of course the HMR usually go a long way!
  20. So a lot had no interest in Football, but spent money on tickets and endured the horror and expense of travelling to Wembley just to support women???? Lets be clear, I am not flying the flag for women or their football, neither am I for one second suggesting they are better than the men, the equivalent male team shouldn't struggle to much against them, despite the fact most top flight male footballers are Prima Donnas worried about their image. I found the womens Euros entertaining and far more skilful that I would have expected, simple as!
  21. ?????????????? I get some of what you are saying, but seeing as they filled Wembley, I think the womens game has the edge on Tiddlywinks for popularity!
  22. Whatever...I have to admit I have found the games generally, not just England, entertaining and skilful, women's football has come a long way. Oh yes, and however good the men may be, they haven't won anything since 1966, and the girls did tonight!
  23. I dive in here from time to time to see if the world still exists...what on earth has this thread developed into???????????
