[note: no intentionally aimed directly at Mr_logic] It's a funny old world, not so long ago people took pride in killing humanely and cleanly. These days it seems in vogue to blow the animals to kingdom come, take photos of the blood bath and promote your skills as an expert animal demolition specialist all over tinernet. As a group we wonder why the government, police and animal rights groups have twitchy fingers. I and most other shooting folk can understand that the animals were killed quickly but to the casual on looker, it must look horrific and to any law enforcement personnel their

After using a mates T3 Lite I would say its a better option if you will use it on foot a lot. The Remington 700 Tactical weighs a ton, it is a good and accurate rifle but is not designed with day long walking in mind. Everything else in the Rem 700 range is lighter. Yes, absolutely, if you spend a lot of time on foot the T3 lite wins every time over the Rem 700 Tactical, but there are plenty of other Remingtons to look at!!

I have a Remington 700 SPS Stainless in .308, about a year old now, has the X-Mark Pro Trigger. Took about 3 inches off the barrel (they are long anyway), fitted a P8 Compact and adjusted the trigger. Thats it, job done!! Much better balanced out of the box than the T3 lite and it shoots cheap 150g PRVI SP to 1". It is true to say that there is lots you can do to a Remington, much more than a Tikka. I have heard horror stories of how bad they can be, and how many rate the Tikkas in a different league (mind you, I have heard the odd horror tale about Tikkas as well). My experience

cheers dan wouldn't want to get rid of the PMII but would still love an NXS.your the 1st person Ive spoken to who has a mod on something this sort of size as everyone has rightly said noone seems to see the need with it being a target rifle. It would be considered a tactical rifle, not a target rifle as such, not in my book anyway! .338 Lap Mag was not intended for target work and this rifle is used by some, law enforcement and military as well.... I suppose you could call it target work...but not the generally accepted sort of targets!!

Out of the box the T3 Lite is the worst balanced rifle I have ever held. Mine was the original full length barrel, about 3 years ago now! Had it cut and fitted an ASE S5...bit of a learning curve you could say...f*****g terrible balance, couldn't even keep it straight over my shoulder in the sling!! It has always shot well, but it was really hard work.....anyway, some 2.5 years later, another barrel chop and thread, 3 different moderators, about 5 different scopes I think, 2 sets of mounts and about 6oz of lead in the Butt its great!! A very long and painful and expensive journey.

John i know what you mean and agree 100% with you mate it's ok saying point at the ground, finger away from trigger bla bla bla "but you have to put safety off" to unload! should be able to open in safe mode, what a can of worms you have opened :11: Not really...and the firing pin is not blocked anyway, just the trigger, so potentially "either" could fire when unloading a live round! ...but....

its a trg,the brake stays on wouldn't have thought a moderator would make much difference in that cal apart from wieght, that said quicksilver have or or going to bring 1 out for 338's and 50 cals so if you no anything about them feel free to share.I always apply for moderators to match the rifle to save the£20 if I apply for a variation.cant think were I saw that about quicksilver Im sure it was on here wouldnt bother with a mod .ive used the .338 in the dtates .its an awsom bit of kit you need the brake on them youd never hold them on target otherwise mind dont forget the

Been trying to dig myself out this morning....... I'm cut off again, it's hard to believe as I live on the outskirts of an urban sprawl of over 3000 homes, less than a mile from one of the biggest Asda in the country, hardly a mile as the crow flies from the M4...... and I'm cut off. (and I'm sure there are many worse!!!) Even my 4x4 can't get up the hill and my lad abandoned his pride and joy nearly a mile away last night! View from my kitchen door earlier this morning....

Load your rifle. Now unload it. You have to flick the safety OFF to unload right? That's my issue. I can load my Remington, and unload it, with the safety ON for the entire operation, I'm a lot happier doing it that way. Remington is safer IMO, it cuts out one more possibility of an accident happening with the safety off. I can see your point about it feeling safer, but you wouldnt load and unload with the muzzle pointing up. Therefore, with good loading practice, it is no safer although it will feel safer. Personal preference thing. Remington was my next choice of rifle af

That's what I have heard and it does seem to make an element of sense...even though Hornady deny it. The official reason as spouted off by Hornady sales people is, they put the wrong die in the vat when making a few million inserts..... If you believe that one then you're

This is a pretty serious calibre and the rifle has a pretty serious price tag.... EEERRRRRR!!!!! What did you list on the FIR 101 that you wanted to shoot with it ..this is not a back garden plinker?? i do shoot at a club just not comp for my own gratification(the back-bittin upsets me,lol)& am lucky enough to have alot of uninterupted moorland to shoot over with exelent back stops and a 700metre disused quarry.of course I research the guns capabilitys before i bought it.just to realy start tounges waggin its on my FAC for target shooting and long range control of deer(& open

In the short term not necessarily. In my experience just about all wildlife takes a similar view to the elements as we do, if it's really dire then lets stay at home. The fox WILL hoard and bury for the lean times, if he has supplies and they are not frozen beyond retrieval he will use them! The time will come regardless when he, and every animal has to find food, therefore lamping in the snow is not necessarily a waste of time at all. Can be very productive in areas of virgin snow and pretty easy to track things as well of course..can also be very unpleasant for the shooter at ti

If this is what you are seeing then you have some, certainly none round my way, that I have seen!!

Flippen' ek, that looks like it weighs a ton, each to their own, I'm a tart and happy with light guns for field work.... I have CZ Silhouette HMR and it is zeroed to 100 yards, that is what I want, there are suggestions 125 is good, bottom line is you zero it where you need to!! I tend to clean mine between about 20-150 shots, some say they NEVER clean them, not sure I'd be happy with that, but don't overdo it. The HMR has a TINY bore so take great care and do it properly! Bore snakes do not clean barrels, they just give them a once over until you can do the job properly!! Mine l

This makes interesting reading... http://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/Firearms%20Licensing/Downloads/item9674.pdf Particularly this bit...... "If firearms are transported on public transport they should be covered in a suitable slip/case and remain with the holder at all times, except when carried on an aircraft, for example."

There is a lot of good eating there!!!

Many, many rimfires, especially .22lr, can and do last people a "lifetime". There are obvious checks such as crown, rifling, bolt action, overall condition, etc but the most important thing may well be to decide what you want it for and if it offers what you want!! Does it have dovetails, is it cut for a moderator, can you get spares, do you want art or practicallity! Not a lot of point in saving money buying a gun only to find it has cost you more to service, repair, fit scope and mod etc, than buying a new one to start with!

Blueprinting- does it make a difference?
Deker replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
dont mean to be funny mate but i would like to see that. the world record for a 5 shot group is just under a inch at 600 yards. and this is with a custom 6.5-284 which as you no is a bench rest rifle. The record is just over an inch at 1000 yards. That's 10 rounds not 3 or 5. and i seem to remember it was a light bench rest fired from a prone position with a rest and bag, and i will add, don't go thinking a 6.5-284 is the be all and end all of calibers, you don't need a barrel burner to get accuracy, or for that matter good performance. a bog standard 6.5-08 A square better known as a 260 -
Because it's different circumstances. Your home is where you are going to be keeping your guns permanently, you will be leaving them there when you are out of your house for hours, days or weeks at a time. Going away for a few days shooting is unlikely to mean that are going to be leaving your guns for too long or going very far from them. It's important to understand that the condition on your cert applies all the time. However it doesn't require that the guns are stored under precisely the same security arrangements wherever you are. You need to ensure that they are subject to "reasonabl

You have to take all reasonable precautions! In general whilst camping it would seem to be safer to leave the gun in the boot, and bolt/ammo in glovebox, whatever, locked, and hopefully alarmed car. On the face of it this would seem a much better option than in a canvas or nylon tent. The situation needs evaluating and the best options taken...so a car can be fine!!!

Comes around time and time again for obvious reasons, and my answer remains pretty similar. What do you want to do with them, how deep are your pockets, and then it's largely down to personal preference. There are those that will suggest Anschutz and Sako rimfires may edge the CZ 452, and I'm not going to argue, but the difference for most shooters is inconsequential. ALL my rimfires are CZ, my boys are CZ and many I know have CZ, never heard any complaints yet. Centrefires offer a lot of choice and a lot of price variations, the X-Bolt is meant to be OK, but most reviews of most

Not so sure it's about living and learning, just a different approach, and many people like this way of ending up with what is, a personal gun ...I'm probably just to tight to throw the unwanted bits away... Don't forget to try as much different ammo as possible, and whilst you are playing around with the gun check the crown, and make sure scope, mounts, mod, etc, etc are tight!! Would I be right in thinking you have already given barrel, action, etc a good clean as well??
