  1. To be fair I'm not greatly familiar with their Semis at all! Used the odd one or two over the years but the only Baikal I have owned is a single barrel job sitting in my cabinet at the moment. I don't have any practical use for it and a pal is getting his paperwork together at the moment to take it away from me. My view on them is.....very few frills, don't go in for aesthetics, over/boldly engineered, solid and reliable, agricultural. If you want a sensibly priced gun to work and rely on, then I don't think you can go far wrong!!
  2. its a trg,the brake stays on wouldn't have thought a moderator would make much difference in that cal apart from wieght, that said quicksilver have or or going to bring 1 out for 338's and 50 cals so if you no anything about them feel free to share.I always apply for moderators to match the rifle to save the£20 if I apply for a variation.cant think were I saw that about quicksilver Im sure it was on here wouldnt bother with a mod .ive used the .338 in the dtates .its an awsom bit of kit you need the brake on them youd never hold them on target otherwise mind dont forget the
  3. Rob A .22lr sub with a big HP is an EXCELLENT fox stopper in the right circumstances! Lets not start this debate again...PLEASE!!!! Not all fox shooting is done at 200yards with miles of open fields around you!! .22lr is infinately preferable to a centrefire SOMETIMES!!! Urban foxes are smaller than their country cousins as well!! Cheers
  4. To be honest, with the latest wording and the massive inconsistances that still exist between the regions, thats the only way to be sure!!
  5. Tell me more about this mod please, not one I'm familiar with..Cheers!! I too have a 452 Style carbine with a Hogan moderator. At least that's what my rfd said it was! When I went in with a view to buying a new rifle, I saw this one and it had the mod on it already, purely to make it long enough to sit in the gun rack properly. In Shooting Sports magazine from May 2009, is a test on a air rifle mod called a Hogan Decimeater. It got a good report and the article said a proofed version for .22rf was shortly to be brought out. This is what mine is apparently, although there is no name, only
  6. GMK supply Sako and you can buy any part you want from them for any Sako. What you want is just about guaranteed to take in excess of a year to get (I jest you not) and cost a fortune! I assume you are talking centrefires, Sako make em pretty well to start with, but people obviously do work on them. If you want to play a lot then perhaps the Remingtons are worth a look, lots you can get and do to them..and going to cost a bit less than Sako too!! I know a man who can do anything you want on the engineering side in Basingstoke area, not sure about coatings though!!
  7. It's already been said, this has been discussed at length and ended up Pinned. I seem to recall the poll ended up almost a dead heat between, 223, 22-250 and 243! I have shot fox with many other calibres and shotgun, and I'm not at all convinced there is an answer! Each and every situation is different, and requires the appropriate tool!
  8. That is a relatively new wording agreed by ACPO, it is being introduced across all regions to help clarify matters. IT WILL NOT! Quite simply because the wording will still be interpreted differently in different regions. The idea was to list a SINGLE Highest level quarry, and then add the new wording, ie you can shoot everything BELOW not above. Deer and other lawful quarry means, you can shoot deer and fox and rabbit and squirrel etc.. Fox and other lawful quarry means, you can shoot fox and rabbit and squirrel, etc (NOT DEER) See what I mean, it was meant to make li
  9. I had the 3.5-10x50 WTC. Bought it in 1999 or 2000 I think, very good optics and very well built, still rate it as very good value for money. I traded it a couple of years ago, just as good as the day I bought it, and I got a sensible price. I hear the new ones are not as good, but never looked through one!! But, they used to cost £200-£210 for about 10 years, the new ones are around £130 I notice on several sites perhaps that says something!!
  10. Gererally as others have already said, but a bit more.... Minimum .22 centerfire Minimum 50gr bullet Minimum 1000ft/lbs AND Expanding Ammo ALL of them, not just one or two!!! That will make it legal for England and Wales, if you have permission to shoot on deer land AND you have a Deer Condition on your FAC. You must have a specific Deer condition (in this instance it is likely to list CWD and Muntjac Specifically), if you don't you cannot shoot them! Did you ask for Deer on the application?? I think that's it, someone will pick me up if I've forgotton something!!
  11. Tell me more about this mod please, not one I'm familiar with..Cheers!!
  12. The world is full of uninformed tree huggers and antis, unfortunately they go with the territory. There are also the ones who need medical help!!
  13. Best way to find out is simply give it a try!!
  14. I seem to recall Home Office guidelines suggest 270 upwards for Wild Boar. There are probably many on this site that are aware I advocate light calibres for any species, and accurate shot placement! Nevertheless, my tool of choice for the Boar is my .308, I would not even consider taking out my .223 on these!!
  15. Check the WHOLE Rifle very carefully, if all seems ok by all means test fire and try to re zero, and just keep your fingers crossed!
  16. [note: no intentionally aimed directly at Mr_logic] It's a funny old world, not so long ago people took pride in killing humanely and cleanly. These days it seems in vogue to blow the animals to kingdom come, take photos of the blood bath and promote your skills as an expert animal demolition specialist all over tinernet. As a group we wonder why the government, police and animal rights groups have twitchy fingers. I and most other shooting folk can understand that the animals were killed quickly but to the casual on looker, it must look horrific and to any law enforcement personnel their
  17. After using a mates T3 Lite I would say its a better option if you will use it on foot a lot. The Remington 700 Tactical weighs a ton, it is a good and accurate rifle but is not designed with day long walking in mind. Everything else in the Rem 700 range is lighter. Yes, absolutely, if you spend a lot of time on foot the T3 lite wins every time over the Rem 700 Tactical, but there are plenty of other Remingtons to look at!!
  18. I have a Remington 700 SPS Stainless in .308, about a year old now, has the X-Mark Pro Trigger. Took about 3 inches off the barrel (they are long anyway), fitted a P8 Compact and adjusted the trigger. Thats it, job done!! Much better balanced out of the box than the T3 lite and it shoots cheap 150g PRVI SP to 1". It is true to say that there is lots you can do to a Remington, much more than a Tikka. I have heard horror stories of how bad they can be, and how many rate the Tikkas in a different league (mind you, I have heard the odd horror tale about Tikkas as well). My experience
  19. cheers dan wouldn't want to get rid of the PMII but would still love an NXS.your the 1st person Ive spoken to who has a mod on something this sort of size as everyone has rightly said noone seems to see the need with it being a target rifle. It would be considered a tactical rifle, not a target rifle as such, not in my book anyway! .338 Lap Mag was not intended for target work and this rifle is used by some, law enforcement and military as well.... I suppose you could call it target work...but not the generally accepted sort of targets!!
  20. Out of the box the T3 Lite is the worst balanced rifle I have ever held. Mine was the original full length barrel, about 3 years ago now! Had it cut and fitted an ASE S5...bit of a learning curve you could say...f*****g terrible balance, couldn't even keep it straight over my shoulder in the sling!! It has always shot well, but it was really hard work.....anyway, some 2.5 years later, another barrel chop and thread, 3 different moderators, about 5 different scopes I think, 2 sets of mounts and about 6oz of lead in the Butt its great!! A very long and painful and expensive journey.
  21. John i know what you mean and agree 100% with you mate it's ok saying point at the ground, finger away from trigger bla bla bla "but you have to put safety off" to unload! should be able to open in safe mode, what a can of worms you have opened :11: Not really...and the firing pin is not blocked anyway, just the trigger, so potentially "either" could fire when unloading a live round! ...but....

    OH No....

Been trying to dig myself out this morning....... I'm cut off again, it's hard to believe as I live on the outskirts of an urban sprawl of over 3000 homes, less than a mile from one of the biggest Asda in the country, hardly a mile as the crow flies from the M4...... and I'm cut off. (and I'm sure there are many worse!!!) Even my 4x4 can't get up the hill and my lad abandoned his pride and joy nearly a mile away last night! View from my kitchen door earlier this morning....
  24. Load your rifle. Now unload it. You have to flick the safety OFF to unload right? That's my issue. I can load my Remington, and unload it, with the safety ON for the entire operation, I'm a lot happier doing it that way. Remington is safer IMO, it cuts out one more possibility of an accident happening with the safety off. I can see your point about it feeling safer, but you wouldnt load and unload with the muzzle pointing up. Therefore, with good loading practice, it is no safer although it will feel safer. Personal preference thing. Remington was my next choice of rifle af
  25. That's what I have heard and it does seem to make an element of sense...even though Hornady deny it. The official reason as spouted off by Hornady sales people is, they put the wrong die in the vat when making a few million inserts..... If you believe that one then you're
