  1. Hopefully this is sorted, just goes to show that forums do have a place and there is usually someone somewhere that can help, never stop learning do we!!!
  2. It's harder to cage trap rabbits then what you may think, especially if you have a shortage of them! On a local estate, a line of 100 cages we normally get one or two rabbits a day, and they're baited with carrots. Isn't trapping and releasing pests illegal? Correct me if I am worng. As the landlord has a legal obligation to control the rabbits, so releasing them would be breaking this legal obligation, This was under the 1948 Act if my memory serves me right (NO... I wasn't about then), this has either recently been repealed or there is talk of it being repealed, perhaps someone can
  3. I have had cause to deal with Deben directly on a number of occasions and to be fair I have always found their customer service to be very good!
  4. The simple answer is NO! Problem is after 1 or 2 strikes any resistance from the primer is gone, so you are wasting your time. However, a bit of work as suggested by John above could well be worth a try, don't spend too much time on them though as Snap cats on the whole will not break the bank. I have the metal and plastic versions and personally I favour the plastic ones, which are also the cheapest!
  5. Don't make the Home Brews myself, but Mr L has knocked up a few for me and we can get touching with some of these! It does seem that I am fortunate with my .223, .243 and .308, they can all shoot PRVI to an acceptable level (1 inch or better), whereas many guns can't. Just goes to show, as we have said, that bullets and loads needs to be looked at for each gun, not necessarily each make of guns!!
  6. Factory Magazines are some of the simplest and cheapest on the market! A top gentleman on this site custom built me some ...... Bolt is good, but FAC versions of the gun (like mine) can be a bit heavy on the bolt. Only problem I have found is setting up the magazine drive wheel through the bolt, this has to be absolutely spot on or it can cause grief.
  7. Just in case anyone is interested it's 1-16 twist, which is the same as most .22lr...don't ask about HMR I'm not sure!
  8. Seems daft really but jamie is right, pal of mine got a Rem 700SPS just before I got mine about a year ago now, both in .308 mind you. Nevertheless, mine shoots PRVI 150g SP into 1" all day and he is lucky to get 3" from EXACTLY the same ammo (we bought it at the same time from the same batch from the same dealer), and whilst it grates with me to say it he is probably a better shot than me!!
  9. Have a think about .22WMR if you want fox, a much better bet in my experience than HMR!
  10. Good going Davy, I was over my lads in Swindon today, you have had it very light on the snow compared to over my way! Apparently we are in for a load more tomorrow. Gone pretty quiet on the bunny front round here, but plenty of fox and deer about!
  11. 34000 sorry mate couldnt resist Does the barrel get very hot???
  12. Satisfying result, great when it comes together!!
  13. I have 3 Cabinets and space to spare for all my guns..just as well as I often seem to be looking after other peoples....anyway...mine always go away in their slips. Quick and easy when I want one and little or no chance of denting/scratching/catching scopes etc when in and out of cabinet. VERY important NEVER put the gun away damp, in or out of the slip, if the slip/gun gets wet dry thoroughly before putting away!
  14. Don't know about a NEW T8 but the P8 and T8 are pretty similar in sound reduction to me. The P8 is fully stripable and all parts are available as spares, so it is pretty simple to change the Mod calibre or thread if you change rifles. Be sure to get the P8 COMPACT, same baffles as the P8 but smaller and lighter. I have a P8 COMPACT on each of my .223, .243, and .308 and it does the job fine. Started with the FULL P8 on my .223 and converted it to the Compact, cant say I noticed any difference in sound reduction. P8 every time over the T8 for me, but there may still be better mods
  15. Not too much of an issue with these Ric as the ammo is still relatively slow, 2200 at best at the muzzle. The CCI 30g and 40g both work well, as did Winchester and Remington with assorted weights between 30-40g. I now have some Remington V-Max, 3 types of CCI and the Hornady to properly evaluate in the new gun! Preliminary results are good, but in this appalling weather I'm not spending too much time prone in the snow zeroing. Good point though and too be honest I don't know the twist rate of this CZ American WMR. Need to do some digging!
  16. Bit of a saga to this but got there in the end! The wood is actually not bad, much better than it looks in the pictures. I have had the barrel chopped from 22.5 inches to 19" (don't ask, that's what I wanted), SAK fitted, after trials with several mods this is as good as any and a sensible price. Been playing with the trigger and the Brooks kit, had the 1.25lb trigger spring to start with but this is a little too light for me in the field so have gone a bit heavier. Nothing wrong with the 1.25lb spring as long as you are careful, but I have a lot of rifles and this is just a bit to
  17. This is difficult as you do not say your primary use or mention money. The way I started with shotguns was with my Dad, had no money and ended up buying several Spanish guns in the early days. There seemed to be more of them about years ago than today. Anyway, they were cheap, reliable and taught me a lot! As time went by I ended up with a Beretta 303 in around 1990. It was like a breath of fresh air. It just felt so good, smooth, precise and a feeling of confidence, to be fair I don't think my shooting improved at all. Went on to get a 686 Sporting Special with 28inch, Silver Pige
  18. Been doing some digging and found this.... 6.16x51mm (.243 Win.) The .243 is a popular hunting cartridge for deer sized game and it fires the 6mm bullet. It is a bit heavier than the .223 and has some good bullets for long range shooting available, but there are not many match grade loads available from factory ammo makers. It does fall between the .223 and the .308 in terms of energy and penetration. The .243 has less recoil than the .308, and yet it sends bullets down range at near .223 speeds, with twice the bullet weight. This flat shooting cartridge does not suffer from some of
  19. As above. This goes round in circles, the .177 performs best being fast and flat(ish), that needs a fairly light pellet. Problem then can be over penitration and not imparting enough energy into the quarry. The .22 is slower but carries its energy well, seldom suffers over penetration and tends to impart all its energy into quarry, but is does not fly as flat as the .177. The .20 was introduced some time ago now to hopefully solve the problems of both, it doesn't. So your best bet is probably to get a heavier .177 pellet, or buy a .22 as well!!
  20. Like he said, you will commonly find the .223 ballistic tips do go right through the fox, even if you hit bone the odds are, bullet fragments or all of it will still go right through. But on the whole they are the best bet for destruction and reduced onward bullet travel!
  21. I was out earlier this afternoon on the highest piece of land in Surrey, would have been there longer but the owner put his 4x4 in one of the neighbours front gardens going down the steep frozen access lane at 17.00 yesterday, so I left well before then today as the temperature was plummeting! Anyway, it was a large Private Estate and pretty much virgin snow everywhere from about 50-100yards away from the main house. It was great to see so many tracks, the deer were all over the place, pheasant looked interesting as they started and stopped where they landed and took off, fox sniffing
  22. Ha Ha...I don't do running...The Wild Boar is one of the few reasons I invested in a .308, heavy slow lump tends to work quite well on the Boar!! Give me a shout when and I'll show you!!
  23. I'm still as confused as when we spoke earlier today. As I said, .243 is certainly not a mainstream military calibre!! Does the round have the circle with a cross inside it stamped on the rim of the cartridge case? I will be fascinated to see how this story unfolds!! ATB!
  24. Whatever you want....a while back the Landlord of a local country pub wanted one off me to fly on the whip Aeriel of his Vespa!!!
  25. Semis are easy to "un-cock" so no need for them there! Not so easy with other types and so snap caps "may" be useful, I have some and tend to use them although I am unconvinced!! Only use them in the shotguns, I haven't got any for the rifles!
