Which Moderator for a Ruger 243
Deker replied to bullmastiff's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
There are lots out there and most people will rate what they have as the best. Personally I rate the ASE as some of the best built and best sound reduction (JUST ) but some have weight/balance issues (got rid of my S5 for just this reason)!.....oh, and cost!!! I run P8 Compacts on ALL my centrefires, they do the job for me offering a good combination of balance, sound reduction, ease of maintenance and cost!! I'm not suggesting they are the best in the world but they offer a package I can live with!! -
Don't know it, do you have any links...sounds interesting!!!!????

FAC application and footpaths?
Deker replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Footpaths have never caused me a problem from the FEO point of view, I have lots of the f*****g things crossing all over loads of my land. The time will come though I suspect!! -
Some of those look massive what weight are the big ones? In Aus when shooting does the bullet rise instead of dropping due to gravity? Doesn't the bullet spin in the opposite direction South of the Equator, seems to work well!!!

No such thing, but the highest magnification I have on anything is 26x, and I struggle to remember the last time I cranked anything up further than about 16x for any reason! It gets very personal with scopes and everyone will have their preferences, I rarely shoot above 6x or 8x MAX out in the field, even to 200+ yards, but I still find the opportunity of higher mag useful for scanning around!!

Yes Sales patter and a load of cobblers. The 'Brooks' CZ trigger kit is VERY good it improves the trigger 100% and a modest 'Muppet' can install it with no problem. The 'Gunsmith' might be right if it was still 1965 and the best gun in town was a dreadful 'Tractorial' Parker Hale abomination. But it is not, the trigger kit just replaces the trigger tension spring with a 'thinner' less powerful one and applies a spacer to take up 'slack' in the trigger sear clearance. If you have no idea what I mean any decent gunshop will put the £20 kit in for another £20, do it. I would tend to agr

Firearms Licensing Departments
Deker replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi All, Help me out here if you can please, sorry if I have missed it in all the previous pages but I currently have two issues, one very serious, with Jill Fuller, Firearms Manager in Wiltshire. Has anyone had any dealings with her please and what are your views...oh yes..is it Jill or Gill...Cheers!! Edit...I also understand the WHOLE Wiltshire Firearms team based at Devizes HQ are civilians, can anyone confirm this please?? -
Find the best sub and the best HV for your rifle and you will find you will still get tighter groups at 100 yards with the subs...but you obviously get more energy with the HV. The Vast majority of .22lr barrels are 1-16 twist, which seems to suit the subs better than HV! Just the way it is!! I tried many HV in my .22lr over the yaers but gave up with them all long back and only use it with subs now. Best HV I found in it were Remingtin Yellow Jacket HP and then CCI Velocitors...the Stingers were not good for grouping!! But every barrel is different!! Even in the .22lr

Charts, tables and ballistic figures on any site will at best only ever give you an indication. The only way you will know is when you fire them. Weight and speed is only part, BC is also important as is barrel length/harmonics...and mods/muzzle breaks, barrel age, wear etc, etc! And whilst in principle any ammo should either be up or down without crosswinds, for some reason there are those that kick left or right as well. have fun!!
-
Absolutely right, all guns are ammo sensitive to an extent and perhaps there are others more sensitive than the .204, but I haven't found any yet!! I've never heard of a 26" heavy barrel rifle being "ideal" for vehicle use! BUT BUT BUT, the point I am making is that I have no use for one. Others may well have a use, and indeed a good one with the right ammo may well be a corker! And....you're a tuff cookie if you can carry a 26" heavy barrel rifle for long in the field!! ATB!!!

Done it with Rabbits, Pheasant and Pigeon but not with the Fox!! And to think..... all they were after was a bit of !! Mind you I think when it's my time to go then there could be worse things to be doing...but I still hope I don't get shot!!!
-
It's probably well known by many that I am not a fan of the .204, I looked hard at it some time ago but from what I have seen and used and heard I have no regrets about leaving it!! Now, don't go getting all upset, I have 7 different FAC tools and I can live without it, and yes, I have all the common ones...common because they work, have a wide ammo choice and are easy to find factory ammo or reload....I'm too old to start with all this malarkey. The .204 has a place, but as many know it is temperamental and fussy in the extreme, and I certainly do not need a 26 inch heavy barrel to lu

Firearms: Guidance to the police 2002
Deker replied to JonathanL's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It is still a very useful document of which I have a hard copy...and is referred to as the "Bible"...long overdue for a rewrite though!!! -
I've used the 40g on the range with a 100 yard zero and found the drop to be just over 1 Milldot at 200 yards. No idea at 250 yards...it's pushing your luck a bit whatever with this stuff!!
-
Any .22lr or HMR is capable of killing a fox but every situation is different so a blanket..what ammo do you use does not really hack it. So, it's .22lr subs for me these days and if I am expecting them further out I will take another calibre. Everyones experiences, situations and needs are different, and everyone has a different selection of tools available and has to make the best of what they have!!!

Pheasant shoots are not my thing as many of you will know, I've only ever been an about 4-6 (never paid and never will), doesn't interest me I have to say, just too artificial for my liking...BUT, not a criticism of those that do like them, just not my bag!! Anyway, I am fortunate to know a few people and received a personal invitation to a private shoot on Boxing Day, unfortunately I already had other fixed plans and couldn't make it...so the invite got extended to the Beaters Day Shoot yesterday. The day was spent at a freezing Marlborough estate where the hospitality was great, the

For some reason I am getting it into my head to buy one of these, Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 Mildot.. Does anyone own or have first hand experience of any of the 6500 range or specifically this one of course. Your views, good, bad or whatever appreciated. Cheers

Truth is I know very little about these IOR scopes, and I don't know anyone who has one...Romania is hardly known as the world centre of scope optics but I do hear these are pretty good. Which model and reticle (is there a choice) do you have?? Anyone else about that has one of these and has any comments... Cheers!!

The 595 had issues at one time I recall, but without doubt it is a better rifle on the whole than the T3, but then I rate the Finnfire a better rifle than the Quad as well, and some of those old BRNO ....... perhaps I'm just getting old. The old chestnut of .222 & .223, if you are into home brews then whatever you want and perhaps a .222 may edge it as there are maybe a few more deals on them than .223, likelyhood it some of the guns may be a bit older as well. If you use factory ammo then no contest, .223 every time, a much wider selection of ammo, easier to get, and on the whol

By all means have a try to make one but as others have said it may well cost you a lot more than buying one complete, and may well cause the FEO some grief. Lots of Cabinets on the market, have a look around, then have a look here ...... http://www.djsproducts.com/ Anything that suits PM me, and I'll let you have best price. ATB!!

Plenty of kits about and some can be useful but to be honest they are either cheap and nasty, don't contain what you really want, have TOO MUCH in them, or simply come in a VERY expensive box. Buy what you need seperately, and do your best to find a Dewey rod!! Oh yes...and throw away your boresnake!!

For some strange reason the likes of the Hornet and .22Magnum (WMR) have gone out of fashion over the last 10-20 years. I suspect this is down to the influence of RFD on new impressionable shooters (but certain bits of legislation have not helped). It is heartening to note that a hardcore of experienced shooters stayed true to these calibres and the reality is beginning to dawn on more now! There is most definately a place in todays shooting world for the Hornet and WMR!!! ATB!!

You obviously haven't had any dealings with GMK before then!!!
