The Tikka .223 was 1-12 up to about 4 years back when they changed it to 1-8. About 2 years ago they went back to 1-12 but seem to have kept up the 1-8 as well (either that or they just have a lot of 1-8 stock) My .223 T3 Lite stainless is 1-8 and it handles everything from 40-75g no problem at all, they all group very well and in a test at Bisley at 200 yards they were all in a neat verticle line dictated by the bullet weight. To be honest I don't know why it handles them all so well, the maths would suggest it shouldn't, but is does!!! Edit, Target wise I tend to use 62g and out

These calibres are relatively new to them, so it remains to be seen. I first handled an Anschutz .22lr back in around 1970 at my club and I have to say I instantly fell in love with it. Their target shooting heritage is legendary, their hunting rifles are based on this!! I don't do any serious target shooting these days, my work is mainly in the field, and whilst I suspect they will end up carving out as good a name for these as they have for target and field rimfires I just don't need it. I need a practical rifle that I can group all day to 1" and don't cry too much if it gets sc

If you are talking about a conventional, run of the mill 12ft lb air rifle then 50 yards is pushing your luck. Accuracy wise you should get touching shots with a HMR, and close to that with a .22lr at 50 yards!! This was 100 yards on a good day for me with HMR! (4 shots) It doesn't happen like that every time. Shot 3 and 4 were just about as close as you can get to being in the same hole! CZ Silhouette, full length barrel, Sirocco Mod and saviour of the world, a Harris Bipod.....cheap old JSR scope though!!

I'm not quite with you on this one, the Mach2 has nowhere near the speed or power of the HMR, and the WMR has a chunk more grunt than the HMR. The .17 Mach 2 is actually very similar to the .22 Magnum (WMR) in trajectory out to 150 yards, but not in energy. The 40 grain .22 WMR bullet delivers 115 ft. lbs. of energy at 150 yards, compared to the 64 ft. lbs. of the .17 M2. (the .17 HMR retains 99 ft. lbs. of energy at that distance.) The Mach2 must have a use for something, but when you have a .22lr, .17HMR and a .22WMR to choose from it is very difficult to find anything where the

As others have said this wording is confusing to say the least, and in my view VERY POOR on behalf of your region. But moving on, the .22WMR really started to go out of fashion when the HMR appeared. The HMR most certainly has a place (I have .22LR, .17HMR and .22WMR) but it is not the new messiah which is now beginning to dawn on people. There is now a slow but steady resurgence in the .22WMR, still a long way to go though!! I have a use and a place for all the rimfires I own, and the .22WMR is a cracker, gives me a great feeling of confidence with one in my hand and the V-Max ammo

I'd go along with SS above very largely, but I seem to be back to zero with just one shot on the HMR, usually park one in the dirt as I get to the shoot and off we go. Mine is a 452 Silhouette with full length barrel and SAK! Anyway, other issues, you will soon get used to what size you need to cut the patches, and personally I'd say stay well away from a boresnake on a 17 HMR. Dewey rods are good, the only one I have though (or can afford) is for my HMR, because that bore is so tiny!!

I use Speer SP on deer 100gr (.243) gives abourt a 1 " exit wound; my fathers an experienced stalker (40yrs) and will never again use a BT bullet for Roe, internal damage is massive; metal fragments throughout the carcase and requires a lot of cleaning. He uses Nosler Partition 100g in a 6mm Ackley and swears by them, "the most accurate bullet he has ever used"; Deer drop on the spot at vast distances, exit wound similar to my Speers. Horses for courses, everyone will have a viewpoint and potentially a different take on this! You correctly make the point that on the whole Ballistic Ti

ANY gun has a value, if it has the Purdy name on it the value often goes up. There is a lot of information on the web, and many may be able to help here...try and get a bit more information!!!

where have all the rabbits gone?!
Deker replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Mixxy comes and goes, the fox comes and goes and winter comes and goes, etc! The rabbit is always less active during the winter months, they do their best to build up a bit of fat reservse through the Summer/Autumn (this is evident when you skin them) and then stay home a lot more until Spring turns up! December and January I find the worst, followed by November and February. October and March can be variable (both good for me last year) but the other 6 months are usually chaos!! -

Simmons Aetec & Whitetail Classic scopes
Deker replied to andy s410c's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
There may be, but over the years I had mine I looked around from time to time but never found one! The threading you can see is simply for the lens ring, but obviously if you can find a sunshade with the same thread and size you are in business!! -
ace jet z moderator for .17hmr
Deker replied to adamthomas64's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Did a test a few weeks back, Jet z CQB (£300ish), Sirocco, Wildcat Cub, Sak, all on the HMR. Yep, it was unscientific, but view of those present was SAK is fine!!! I have used the DM80 on it briefly a while ago, and I would suggest that had the edge, but not enough for me to bother spending the extra, Sak is good enough for me! -
After Roe was taken out of the 1991 Deer Act amendment at the last minute, back in 2007 in England and Wales for the .22 Centrefires, I don't see it being changed any time soon. I have no wish to debate the right or wrong of this, MY .223 is conditioned for Roe in Scotland, and suffice to say I have dropped several large Roe at over 200 yards with one shot!!!

whats he changing about their laws mate. do you know? 1. Nobody under 3 will be allowed a gun! 2. Between the age of 3-9 gun ownership will be voluntary. 3. Between age 9-15 a minimum of one gun is mandatory 4. 15 Upwards, one pistol and one rifle compulsory, if you cannot afford it they will be available free by collecting tokens from breakfast cereal packs! 5. Wall-mart will give you a free box of ammo for every $50 you spend on your groceries! 6. All small calibres will be banned, and only .32 upwards allowed 7. Compulsory target practice for everyone once a month! 8. Fines wi

What sort of "Deer?" are these please??
Deker replied to Deker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I hear what everyone is saying, and they certainly do look like them, which is precisely why I didn't say fallow! My fault for not getting good pictures, you would see the differences then, and a horse was in the field as well which made them look tiny! They are not a current UK native species, anyone know of any relations of the fallow?? I may well have to ask the man next time I'm in the area, just don't like to be beaten, even if they are some foreign species! Cheers all -
What sort of "Deer?" are these please??
Deker replied to Deker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
fallow mate Yep, I would tend to agree, but I first came across these 6-8 months ago and they do not appear to have grown at all, still a bit smaller than a Roe! They have a winter coat on at the moment which makes them "fluff" up a bit!! Having mentioned these in the past to a couple of people it was time to take a picture whilst the foliage was bare! -
Who knows where I should be putting this but lets start here!! Came across these today, about 200 of them in a field...yes..they were farmed!!! They are about the same size as a Roe, perhaps just a bit smaller, they are a non native species that's for sure, even though they do look a bit Roe like as well! I'm OK with UK deer but around the world I get a bit lost, there are an awful lot of varieties. Anyway, grabbed the picture quickly on the phone, I know it's not up to much, but anyone got any idea just what these are. Cheers

fox shooting with shotgun
Deker replied to pest hunter 151's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'm sure FD will get back to you but to clarify a bit I believe he is suggesting mouth/hand, not just hand! You can make all sorts of squeaks, calls with your mouth/hand, that's all I used for years until a couple of years ago, after standing in the pouring rain, in the freezing cold with a gale force wind blowing, out of nowhere a fox turns up, I did everything I could to get some sort of a squeak out of my mouth but nothing worked, so I decided to get a caller. Got a FOX CALL, doesn't work any better than the hand/mouth, but I can usually make it work even when I am shivering to deat -
fox shooting with shotgun
Deker replied to pest hunter 151's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Good advice from many, especially JohnGalway and Foxdropper. I know a bit about the fox but Foxdropper has certainly opened my eyes when I've been out with him He does seem to have a way with the call!! -
Drunk as well!! Let's be honest it isn't going to earn you any Brownie points is it. A word with your Police region does seem the way forward!

Not sure it is a marketing ploy, Sako bought Tikka, the Tikka has developed along Tikka lines and whilst there are Sako influences (and barrels) I don't see this as a deliberate marketing ploy. I could be wrong of course. And Don't forget Beretta owns them "both", so a whole load of other potential marketing ploys as well!! But I personally consider Optilocks a complete rip off whichever way you look at it!!

What caliber do you like for fox shooting?
Deker replied to whippeter69's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Mate read the rules Enough said. Lets get a few things straight here, and let me make the point up front that I do not advocate using air rifles on fox nor am I defending anyone for doing so. You guys are far too blinkered here, there "may" be a situation where this is appropriate, this is not a black and white issue, although on the whole it is probably nearer black than white! What are these rules??? Perhaps you would be kind enough to point them out at it is news to me! Rules can only be based on Legislation, otherwise it is guidance and suggestion, there is NO le -
You need to be the Landowner or have Express Permission from the Landowner or his authorised agent to shoot Game. There are still rules and seasons, you need to be aware of these! The Police could stop you at any time and check you, car, guns etc, but you do not need a Game Licence in England or Wales any more!
-
Aykley Heads Police HQ Durham you pick them up from there. I'm getting really confused, just what is it he can pick up from this Police HQ? Are you talking about FAC/SGC application forms?? The Game Licence was abolished on 1 August 2007 in England and Wales!
-
I'm not sure what you are getting at, but if you still have concerns about the Game Licence have a look here, this is the Order! http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/pdf/uksi_20072007_en.pdf You could always print it out, carry it with you and show the nice policeman if he asks.
