  1. By coincidence I have just returned from a site survey where I was called as the owner lost all 5 of her chickens, 4 gone completely and no 5 dead and found by her little girl. The den is about 200 yards along the private road in a neighbours garden, who, it turns out, feeds the fox (obviously not well enough) and wants no part in their removal...... What would you do as the chicken owner wants to buy some more "pets" for her distraught daughter?? The answer is harsh but realistic!
  2. Edgar Bros are the UK Distributor of Remington......... http://www.edgarbrothers.com/
  3. Take nothing away from the guy but he is an exhibition shooter and gets lots of practice...and that was edited of course. It is also CONSIDERABLY EASIER shooting thrown clays than trap clays! Always good to watch though, and he is good!
  4. There will be a medical explanation but as you scramble the brain erroneous signals of "flight" seem to get sent out randomly!
  5. It was obvious from the time the question was asked you are going to get everything from the righteous to the cowboys! What people say and what people do are often very different, and fox and cubs will always promote debate! Consider the Pest Controller and the Urban fox, the adults may roam far and wide in search of food and you get a call from a householder who is sick of the fox stealing their handful of chickens..... Do you go with morality or paying the mortgage!
  6. Two rabits a handful of times, both with the .22lr and the HMR, 2 Pheasant once with the 12G.
  7. I have very little experience here, but I do have a trap and I do have an issue on a clients site. Some background on baits and trap siting and any other hints and tips much appreciated! Cheers
  8. I actually have very little use for my .308, contrary to the belief of many I seldon have need for anything more than my .243 on ANY deer and don't shoot anywhere near as many Boar as I would like, so it most often gets used at the range to make sure the zero is still in. PRVI 150g SP groups at 1" for me no problems as long as I do my bit, there may be more accurate stuff but that works for me. Mine is a 700 SPS Stainless .308!
  9. The ignition method you raise will have little or no effect by the time the bullet exits the barrel! The twist rate of the barrel is significant, the .22lr was developed just after Noah took the animals away from the flood....it was never intended as a high velocity, modern powders tool...there lies the issue!! Obviously different ammo performs differently whatever in each barrel, and many will eventually be able to find an acceptable HV round, but with the 1-16 twist (the majority of .22lr) and length/weight of many .22lr bullets, Sub sonic rules!!
  10. Perhaps one day we will meet up and have enough drink between us to form the next coalition Government...in the mean time ...that made me laugh as much as the army MARKSMEN drafted in to shoot cows during the Foot and Mouth!!
  11. You will be talking about something up to 1250(ISH) ft sec and solid I suspect...try a CCI Stinger and you will be lucky to get 3 in the same county at 100 yards!! ATB!!
  12. Its easy, the .243, it is basically the smallest, all deer legal calibre you can get, and there are plenty of brilliant fox rounds available. Like it or not there is no real debate!
  13. The Harris 12-25 swivel is good sitting/kneeling and can still be used prone, the 13.5-27 swivel Harris is good if you are a little taller but is very difficult for most to use prone!
  14. Magtech 40g HP Subs at 60 yards gave me very close to a 100 yard zero with CCI Velocitors, but HV and .22lr are not commonly mentioned together when talking accuracy!
  15. Seems you are new here, it also seems a rather strange situation, from what I could make of it, is there perhaps a little more to this than you have mentioned?? yes i am new everything above is how it was i,m in basc and will be phoning them first thing any suggestions to his actions would help and should,nt a firearms officer be upto date with ammo and things? Sounds like the BASC is a good option, and I do find it strange about the HMR and .17 centrefire business you mention! But....is there something more????????????
  16. I didn't see the article and I don't actually know that much about the M4, but it's horses for courses...the more Compact M4 is a great tool in close combat arenas, it's primary use is not as a long range weapon, even though it is quoted as a 500m tool. The AK 47 can't hit a barn door past 300 yards but it strikes me its pretty useful! The 5.56 is an accomplished military round, it had issues in the early days, but changes were made, I don't believe we should be writing off the calibre because results from one make of rifle in some situations are not ideal, the 7.62 is not perfect, nei

  18. You are of course quite correct, even though the Home Office guide makes it quite clear the .243 is acceptable as a stand alone fox tool!
  19. Lord knows what she really thought, but she was certainly looking for you!!
  20. Well, if you are a chippy and you already have a stock to get dimensions of where the metalwork sits/fits you must have a chance! ATB!
  21. It's probably me but I'm not quite understanding this ...... No doubt there is more to the story but where have you advised plod you are shooting to get a .243 if the land you have is not massive and full of nervous animals?? Cheers
  22. The little bugger just sat there eating the sandwich we threw at her..... Edit...took this with the phone today, she was only about 15 feet away and remarkably tame... but wild, for legal reasons she could not be shot! Even though there were 4 rifles aimed at her head!
  23. 60yards .22lr (Subs) 100 yards HMR 200 yards .223 (and all my centrefires) The zero you need is what suits your land, for example, if you can't find a distance further than 100 yards to shoot your .223 anywhere on your land its a bit daft zeroing it for 200 yards!!
