  1. Can't argue with that, I cut my teeth in competition work as a teenager and looking after equipment was drummed into you. I have a couple of stainless rifles but the majority of mine are not...there is no difference in the condition of any, they are all Better than the day they came out of the factory!
  2. Im off to check them out tomorrow, I really want the tikka t3 varmint stainless but would not be able to afford scope cheapest I can get it for is £990 then tikka mounts etc £150 and wildcat Mod £190 way out if my budget but might be worth the wait... Or the £900 for full Howa set up, I'm sure once I see them in flesh I'll decide. Out of curiosity why a Varmint and why stainless? You don't have to spend anything like £150 on Tikka mounts, look around, and check out Sportsmatch... I got the Optilock first and then the Sportsmatch, NEVER again will I waste unnecessary money
  3. Ok, perhaps a senior moment and I couldn't see what was in front of me, and perhaps I should take back the highlighted bit .................... Punctuation did make a difference!
  4. Does that say .........look for an accurate round instead of one that suits your rifle. That's what I was taught. Can you ask whoever taught you that what it means. Cheers! looks like deker is getting hung up on diction and punctuation!!!!!!! dont worry Luto we know what you meant bud. I was looking for clarification of the comment and it's meaning! I don't give a toss about his punctuation or spelling! look for a accurate round instead one that suits your rifle. Perhaps you can tell me what it means then!
  5. Get what you want, but the HMR and .223 are very different animals, and Charlie isn't a fan of HMR I have a .223 and other centrefires (2 of them Tikkas) and a collection of rimfires including a HMR, I have a use for them all! Howa packages are worth looking at as well.
  6. I've been looking about internet, the package did have mounts too but that was it mate. Can you recommend any good sites ? I'm going to visit a couple more shops this week too, I'm still on fence which calibre to get first out of the .17HMR and .223, seen a nice tikka T3 but would finish my bank balance off this month. Decisions, decisions, decidions.... I have never dealt with this lot so this is not a specific recommendation, but I'd say they are worth a look/phone call! http://www.czrifles.co.uk/ As I first mentioned, there will be few RFD who will not consider a
  7. Unless there is a bit more to the story that hardly sounds an exciting deal. But if it has a scope it will have mounts as well! Sling, carry bag, ammo, cleaning rod, spare mag, etc.???? Just the same you can do deals anywhere, but maybe a good look round the web will be useful!
  8. Does that say .........look for an accurate round instead of one that suits your rifle. That's what I was taught. Can you ask whoever taught you that what it means. Cheers!
  9. Only you can answer that, I don't need them and don't have a problem, others will tell you they are! I don't generally take pics but this was for a new client so......
  10. If you use a .22lr for field work, and subs exclusively, there will generally be little advantage to regular cleaning. If you want to get involved in top level target work or use HV ammo a lot, then clean it! All my rifles get cleaned, and their mods, but my BA .22lr which is exclusive subs and field work gets cleaned least. My .22lr Semi gets more attention ..simply because it's a semi! If you zero your rifle with a clean barrel, and then in the fullness of time clean it properly it will retain zero and shoot straight shot 1, or shot 2 at worst (assuming the barrel/crown etc is true
  11. got the land and not up for renewal untill spring 2014, Apply early (NOW) for a renewal including a variation, so no additional charge!
  12. As already said, moderators get personal and most will recommend what they own, the P8 COMPACT does the job for me, and on a .222 I would strongly suggest the COMPACT version . This has been up many times, my .223, .243 and .308, All P8 Compact!
  13. I am not getting into politics at all here, but how come it has taken you 30 years to notice the Tories tend to look after the rich and on the whole are spoilt rich public school boys? ..and you seriously think that idiot Milliband can do better, please, this is NOT a political statement, Milliband is an idiot period, and still would be even if he was leader of the tories or lib/dems, greens, whatever!
  14. Who knows really, by all means cover the past, they will have a good idea anyway, but I wouldn't grovel too much......... just my opinion...... it will depend what the FEO had for breakfast no doubt!
  15. I still have some but have never found a field use for them, mine have all been used in testing/demonstration. Most SG cartridges will be 11/8oz, contain 9 lumps of lead, each of 8.4mm and deliver in total just short of 2000ft lb. energy. (Why is shooting mixed full of Imperial and Metric scales?). Energy transfer at normal shotgun distances is good, over penetration becomes unlikely, and one or two hits pretty much anywhere you like will stop a fox. Close range they are devastating and energy wise it could be likened to being hit by 9 x .38 Special rounds simultaneously, the fact is 4
  16. Does that read that you don't have a shotgun and have only been out with other people after the fox, and not for a while? Have you got a SGC or FAC yet?
  17. What shotgun do you use on the fox, and what cartridges do you use for your foxing work?
  18. I bought a brick of 500 and they went snap, crackle pop mate. Accuracy was no way near Eley or Winchester and velocity must have ranged from sub 12ft lb airgun to HV! Being a perfectionist and all to ready to blame my tools for my own ineptitude, vowed never to return. CCI's might work fine in your rifle fella. Just because somebody else didn't get on with them doesn't necessarily mean that you won't. I find them ok, not brilliant, but good enough out to sixty yards. Beyond that the SK's start to show their superior accuracy for me anyway. Try a box, it won't break the bank. If th
  19. At last someone with a constructive comment! If the fox walks passed you he will fall down easy with 7's. If you are looking at foxes out to normal 12g distances, you certainly need a heavier load!
  20. If that works for you then fine. All you are doing is confirming the Hatsan is not good! I can't remember the last time my 391 jammed anywhere, with any cart, of any size, even 21g on the Skeet!
  21. Ok, perhaps I missed something, which ones don't Highland Outdoors supply? Cheers
  22. I'm not looking for an argument just your rationale, perhaps you could elaborate more please! The OP said Fox and deer. Cheers
  23. That post is obviously a wind up! Perhaps you need to buy one, preferably from about 5 years back, love it, cuddle it, clean it, polish it, oil it and then tell us what you think! Now and again you get one that works and people are fine with it, but the people that end up in deerhunter25 position is disproportionate to the number sold. Simply look at the number of problem Hatsan posts on this and any other forum you like, then compare that to ANY other shotgun manufacturer, then tell me Hatsan owners " just don't look after they're guns very well".
  24. There are basic rules to follow and condensation risks can be reduced or removed altogether. Cabinet mounting position can be a big contributor, but make sure the gun is put away clean and dry and at the ambient temperature and it should not be an issue. Mounting positions can sometimes be difficult and all manner of tricks are employed to stop condensation, Silica gel, heaters, light bulbs (low heat), cabinet lining, as well as the specialist product designed for this.
