  1. Except in Scotland... A 22-250 is not Red deer legal in Scotland!
  2. I haven't got a field use for any scope that starts at 10x!
  3. They are fine for fox if used within their capabilities, just like any calibre/ammo!
  4. The most common .223 twist is probably 1-12, then 1-8, also available, 1-9, 1-10, or anything you want to have made!
  5. I am not condemning or defending anyone here but we most certainly have not. Simply look at historical televised footage from the Falklands where we sent Argentine PoW troops in to clear booby traps round ammo/fuel supplies. There are many, many examples from many war/conflict zones where we have not not stuck to the rules. Let us be realistic here, there is one basic rule in war....WIN. It is seldom you see the victors in the dock after any war being charged with not keeping to the rules, but commonly the vanquished! :hmm: We may be better than many, but we most certainly do not st
  6. Posted Today, 07:06 PM Any good for centrefire? Foxing at night with lamp? Yes...But...only available with a 30/30 reticle, which is not commonly first choice at distance, but all down to personal preference!
  7. Which part of a centrefire being different to a rimfire do you not understand? ..............FACT - short barrelled rifles are easily as accurate as those with long barrels.................. Rubbish, you are way over generalising, long distance hunters/target use loooooooong barrels with slow burn powders to achieve minimum propellant kick, to maximise long range stability, these are the most accurate rifles you can get! We are talking RIMFIRE. Not apples, pears, air rifle, slingshot, arrows, ......Rimfire, specifically .22lr, it was you who first introduced rimfire. Try grasping a .22l
  8. ANY .22lr will stop a rabbit out to a fair distance if you put it in the right place. People forget that the array of expanding type ammo we have these days is a relatively recent phenomenon, the good old fashioned .22lr for the bunny was solid. It will work fine, but as always be careful of over penetration, the increased risk of ricochet (lets not get to excited here), and place it accurately. Fact is there is better suited ammo today!
  9.  Shame you simply didn't read my #19, could have saved yourself a lot of effort and embarrassment! Nave a nice day! .
  10. Did you read my post? We are not talking centerfires, we are not talking changing ammo, we are talking of barrel length effect on rimfires accuracy which you questioned. A .22lr does not exert anything close to the stresses and pressures on barrels as centrefires, you may as well compare apples and pears, the harmonics do not begin to compare, so neither will the results! Rimfire ammo also tends to have far worse ballistic coefficient than centrefires. I am not falling into any traps of velocity/accuracy with rimfires, and I have not made any suggestion that ammo may not be more of a facto
  11. You have a point, and there are times you have to bite your lip, but that situation still sucks!
  12. Ok, we all know shops can charge what they like but I make the list price of this Mod £220, so why are they charging you £250? When I said they cost what you can get them for that usually means some sort of a deal, not giving them £30 extra! Fitting should simply involve reaming out the Derlin bush, but ok £10-20 for that.
  13. It isn't all about the money, and it's all down to you, but personally I would not consider a P12 on my .223. The P12 is a monster, the normal P8 is bad enough (that's why I converted mine to Compact). The difference in sound moderation will be negligible, the difference in weight hanging off the end of your rifle will be noticeable. Best advice will be a quick chat with UK Custom Shop!
  14. They cost what you can get them for! Check.................. The web http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/index.html Your local RFD
  15. On a .223 there is no need to go mad, and Yes, you can get all the parts you need to convert any Predator to any other version/thread of Predator. These are COMPACTS, on my .223, .243, and .308, they do for me! Edit, Top right is a tube from longer P8 that I converted to Compact.
  16. Ok, I'll go with your ... I am tired, it's been a long day....... Lots of clumsy wording on my part ..... But I have to disagree with pretty much every word of that statement. It is VERY out of date ....... is ....not really adding anything constructive. You are offering a view on Bunny Boilers post, I am offering a view on yours, which falls somewhere between both posts. I think you will find that shorter barrels, as shown in your own example, produce less velocity/energy, therefore accuracy. Your 14-16" being optimum is based on your considered view of what
  17. I have to disagree with pretty much every word of that statement. It is VERY out of date. A long barrel can aid accuracy if you are using iron sights. The further the front sight is from the back sight, the easier it is to focus the eye and more accurately aim at the target. This does not apply if a scope is fitted. A barrel needs to be long enough to ensure that there is enough volume capacity in the barrel to allow all the powder to burn and maximise the speed of the bullet. In the case of rimfire, tests have shown this to be as short as 12 to 14 inches after which the friction o
  18. Don't sell yourself short, another use for the Super Varmint is bashing Fence Posts into the ground!

    Ns200

At 20 yards they are excellent, probably only need the lowest illumination setting, on full power it will be as clear as day. These really do work out to 200 yards...............or even a bit more!

  21. No argument in principle with that, but for the difference it makes at .22lr hunting distances the debate isn't worth the ink!
  22. I could be wrong but I believe you will get 1-12. Years back it was 1-12, then there was a wholesale change on all the .223 Tikka to 1-8, that lasted a few years and went back to 1-12. I-8 is available I believe but to special order, a word with GMK will probably be the quickest route anyway!
  23. Apparently your .22lr and 17HMR are conditioned for Vermin and AOLQ. Fox are vermin, but even if you are not happy with that, I would like to see anybody argue they are not AOLQ?
