  1. Very possibly and it will help a bit, but as he pointed out it is a Splitting Axe, heavy and wide, doesn't need to be particularly sharp................ and a well cut easy to split log too!

    Arsenal

Good entertainment but painful for Arsenal.
  3. ......and DON'T store it next to a radiator, far too much fluctuation of temperature up and down as the heating goes on and off, liable to induce moisture!
  4. Sticker on the bottom of the tin will tell you size, as it happens mine prefers the 5.51! Edit, they used to make a 5.50 as well but stopped about 6-8years ago.

  6. They make it up as they go along. What the hell do they know about your financial situation and since when was it any reason to restrict ammo holding anyway? Ask for whatever you can justify. I can see it now FEO to new applicant.............It's coming up to Christmas so money will be tight, tell you what I'll only give you a 20 round allocation to keep your costs down!
  7. It is early days yet for this round but doesn't seem to be taking the world by storm, manufacturers are cautiously sitting on the fence (see CZ above #28 who have no plans to consider making 17WSM for 15 months). Perhaps it will work, perhaps it will not, perhaps it will be another 17Mk2, a solution to a problem nobody has. :hmm:
  8. This seems to be getting much deeper than it need be (from what I can see due to Wilts advice to get a permission letter with a Calibre on it), if the other land is cleared for deer calibres, 22cf or bigger and you have authority to shoot on the land I see no reason why Wilts want another permission letter from you? I think perhaps you need a word in their shell like and ask them why they appear to want another permission letter when apparently you already have authority on land cleared for bigger calibres. Note to self, go out of your way to avoid a permission letter that states ANY s
  9. If all the land is actually cleared for deer calibres (that may be .22 cf), in the normal course of events you do not need any additional permission and should not have any problem with your region going to a WSM or Hornet...or bigger.. But apparently you have a calibre specific permission from a farmer, that being the case and the fact you are with Wilts........ who knows? Like I said earlier, Wilts have their moments and if this little gem is anything to go by they have not been helpful to you!
  10. WHY? I had a serious debate and had to educate their last Chief Constable some years ago, why do you need a new permission slip, are they suggesting you do not have a requirement for .17Hornet, have you got a very restrictive quarry list on your permission, what is wrong with a Hornet if you are shooting fox? I'm off, heading to a Sports ground/fitness centre/bar, shuts at 11 tonight, I shoot from 1 hour after closing to 07.00 clearing rabbit mainly from their massive sports fields, they have an annoying habit of crapping in the centre circles and goal mouths!
  11. I am getting even more confused. Not at all, I don't see why you would need to get another permission letter at all, just tell them you want a 1 for 1 and the WSM is better suited than your HMR (as an example). If you want it in addition to a HMR/WMR simply tell them longer range rabbit/fox. I believe you come under Wilts, they are a funny lot, but you should not need permission slips all over the place, one will normally suffice for Wilts!
  12. I may not be following that, I have seen/got .22RF slots but not .17RF slots, my .17 is HMR in every listing. A 1 for 1 relates to the slot, not calibre, it does not have to be like for like, you can change a FAC air rifle for a .308 on a 1 for 1 variation (if they let you have it).
  13. As is so often the case we are drifting away from the topic. I have an Open mind about the 17WSM, when I first heard about it I thought perhaps it could take the place of my HMR and WMR, who knows, perhaps it might. My problem is I shoot a lot of different quarry in a lot of different environments for lots of different clients, and I need a good selection to bring the best tools to the party, do I need the extra grunt of a Hornet or WSM, well I haven't found a need yet, but never say never! I have a circa 1000ft lb gap between my WMR and .223, but I have simply never found a need f
  14. I have no particular preference, and it will depend on the way the fox presents, if there is a shot that I am confident will stop it I will take it. All those above were prone off the bipod as well, and a still night, you can deliver a HMR very accurately in those circumstances to a good distance! This one was around 100 yards and shot daytime, prone and bipod again, he stood there looking at me, the dark area on the top of his nose between his eyes was where the HMR went in, instant lights out!
  15. I think this comes down to use any calibre within its limits and your ability. I regularly use the HMR on Fox, but I regularly use other calibres as well. HMR, V-Max, NS200, close to just over 100yards, 4 shots, 4 Fox!
  16. Stolen from BASC website tonight............. Live quarry shooting Many people shoot live quarry, either on their own land or where they have permission. The species which you can shoot are limited by the law and by the effective power of an air rifle. All birds are protected, and although there are seasons when you can legally shoot game, and some wildfowl, they are not suitable quarry for air rifles. However, as long as you are complying with firearms law, you can shoot certain pest bird species. These are covered by general licences which, in simple terms, mean you can shoot the birds li
  17. Shooting Wildfowl with lead "shot" is not allowed, this does not apply to single projectiles.
  18. I think 20p may be a little conservative, sensibly 25-30p and for a lot 30-40p, just the same the point is made! There is more flexibility in the Hornet (17 or .22) if you want to reload, but of course not everyone does, and factory .17 Hornet price is in the order of 80p I understand! The 17WSM sounds interesting on the face of it, but performance and pricing need to be right, and I'm not convinced it will be, time will tell and I'm keeping an open mind!
  19. Indeed, many centrefire calibres offer factory ammo less than that, and certainly on the reloading side even more can be produced for 65p. My recollection, about a year ago when this calibre first came to our attention was the ammo would only be slightly more than HMR! :hmm:
  20. Not available in the UK, very unlikely we will see any until next summer (at the earliest), they were originally rumoured to be on our shores summer 2013. Only manufacturers info available really so far, check US shooting sites for any consumer led info. I have no idea where irishnut got his prices but if the ammo is £13 for 20 (65p each ) as suggested above they will not sell in the UK.
  21. Could you help my simple brain make any sense of that. How did they get a Target condition if they have never picked up a firearm in their life, they would need to be a member of an approved club and have served a probation period? And what sort of deer were they after in Scotland, seeing as he could deal with them all, if the rifle could handle 100g, and she could only deal with the small ones?
  22. What is that about? At the moment we do not live in a Police state, they must have had a reason! There is nothing illegal about carrying an airgun, the Police cannot simply get ...........hard on airgunners carrying guns............and take their guns off them, they need a reason. :hmm:
  23. I know very little if I'm honest except I believe they are Serbian, not many in the UK.
