  1. Ok, I'll go with your ... I am tired, it's been a long day....... Lots of clumsy wording on my part ..... But I have to disagree with pretty much every word of that statement. It is VERY out of date ....... is ....not really adding anything constructive. You are offering a view on Bunny Boilers post, I am offering a view on yours, which falls somewhere between both posts. I think you will find that shorter barrels, as shown in your own example, produce less velocity/energy, therefore accuracy. Your 14-16" being optimum is based on your considered view of what
  2. I have to disagree with pretty much every word of that statement. It is VERY out of date. A long barrel can aid accuracy if you are using iron sights. The further the front sight is from the back sight, the easier it is to focus the eye and more accurately aim at the target. This does not apply if a scope is fitted. A barrel needs to be long enough to ensure that there is enough volume capacity in the barrel to allow all the powder to burn and maximise the speed of the bullet. In the case of rimfire, tests have shown this to be as short as 12 to 14 inches after which the friction o
  3. Don't sell yourself short, another use for the Super Varmint is bashing Fence Posts into the ground!

At 20 yards they are excellent, probably only need the lowest illumination setting, on full power it will be as clear as day. These really do work out to 200 yards...............or even a bit more!

  6. No argument in principle with that, but for the difference it makes at .22lr hunting distances the debate isn't worth the ink!
  7. I could be wrong but I believe you will get 1-12. Years back it was 1-12, then there was a wholesale change on all the .223 Tikka to 1-8, that lasted a few years and went back to 1-12. I-8 is available I believe but to special order, a word with GMK will probably be the quickest route anyway!
  8. Apparently your .22lr and 17HMR are conditioned for Vermin and AOLQ. Fox are vermin, but even if you are not happy with that, I would like to see anybody argue they are not AOLQ?
  9. Does that mean I should stop kicking my IT man???
  10. Just got a new computer and for whatever reason I cannot reply including the post replied to, neither can I copy to a reply. I can read everything (I think) and I can reply, but I cannot link or include anything with the reply. Is it me, the computer or the site, any advice as to fixing this most appreciated. Thanks!
  11. "People shooting at foxes 200 yards away with a HMR are looking for trouble" This is what I don't understand, we hear this all the time. It shouldn't need saying...people shooting at deer 1000 yards away with a .308 are looking for trouble, so why do we need reminding not to overstretch smaller calibres? Shoot every calibre within your limits, the ammo limits, and the calibre limits. Easy!
  12. Ref#9 Field of View is dictated by internal lens arrangement, Objective size has little to do with it, a wide angle 40mm can have a much wider FoV than a 50mm objective. Like for like a 50mm objective will have a slightly wider FoW but allow greater light transmission than it's 40mm equivalent, that's why it is offered!
  13. I have shot in a lot of situations with a lot of guns pointing at a lot of different quarry. Whilst I have 2 IR scopes I have yet to find any reason to turn them on in the field!
  14. Mine went back to BSA twice for leaking seals and I grew a beard trying to load it. When it worked and I eventually managed to load a pellet, it was actually ok, but I still sold it!
  15. Odds are it is something simple or obvious, but not always easy to deal with via a forum, what you need is someone else to shoot it when you start shotgunning the target, this should show if its you or the gun, then move on from there!
  16. Once you have it clean and zeroed, cleaning should make next to no difference in POI. I strip and clean all my centerfires after use, including the mods, put them all back together with no change of zero. Pretty obviously something is going wrong somewhere, could be rifle package, ammo, or you! Start eliminating, get someone else to try it, double check everything is firmly attached, change scope/mounts, change ammo, shoot off support, Bipod or preferably sandbags, don't clean it between zero sessions for the time being and see if anything changes, preferably one at a time! Did I rea
  17. They are light, pointable, a joy to shoot and usually incredibly accurate. There are loads of these about still, which shows they are a decent tool, and helped develop the CZ brand in the UK. Fit is always important, but as a .22lr you should not have any much trouble adjusting to the gun, and if it becomes an issue, there are numerous methods of adjusting the gun to you!
  18. We may be playing with words but for clarification. Various regions and various FEO can say what they like, the HMR IS legal for fox in the entire UK. Some regions, for whatever reason, will not condition some/all rimfires for fox, that does not make them illegal, it simply means you are not conditioned to use those calibres in your area, I can visit you and use mine in your region 100% legally.....Daft but true and legal!
  19. I have T3 in .223 and .243, happy enough with both. The super varmint is a monster, far too heavy for me in the field, but we all like different things!
  20. It's measured from the barrel, a moderator is a moderator, it isn't a barrel. The measurements in the legislation talks of Barrel. Screw a moderator on a rifle it does not become a barrel!
  21. YES! It says........... any legal quarry suitable for that calibre. The Fox has NO legal restriction on any calibre, and is legal quarry, therefore it is suitable!
  22. Well, that's the sort of thing that pisses off people, simple mistake and a prosecution warning, seems way ott though!!! My region have made NUMEROUS mistakes on my personal FAC and SGC and Club FAC over the years, at one point issuing me an AUTOMATIC Shotgun (not Semi). Perhaps they should concentrate in getting their own house in order, and when THEY are perfect they may have a case against others!
  23. Its not that simple, averages don't really help, there may be exceptional circumstances, either good or bad, just a few weeks to a year even! Best option is to ring your region and ask.
