Crumbs, you will get a lot of variation. It will be different for virtually every manufacturer, barrel, pellet, etc! I'm aware of that Deker. Doesn't normally stop them though. A bit tongue-in-cheek.

Good point!

There are no hard and fast guaranteed result rules for fox trapping, whether it be method, trap, bait etc., etc.. Whatever experience you have, catching foxes in traps always has an element of luck in my opinion. I have had results in less than an hour, and been pulling my hair out after 3 months.

Probably down to numb nuts leaving them protruding to start with or simply tightening them on to the rifle. I don't see why they should work loose, and even if they did why would they scratch? On the other hand if they are not required, by all means remove them anyway, and its a tiny bit less weight as well!
-
You have a HW100, a scope with a large side wheel and you are concerned about weight?
-
Its a lovely red bin, so why don't you pick up that wood and metal debris on the floor and use it.
-
No doubt that's why pretty much any target air rifle you can find today is a PCP!

I have to say I'm in the same camp as Charlie here, I think my HMR is about 7-8 years old, and delivers excellent accuracy and consistency. I fully accept the ammunition (not the rifle) has issues, I have had a couple of hang fires, but no squib shots, I know others have had some. I now have well over 100 split cases (after firing) but these have never caused any issue on the shot itself. I have not checked for split cases prior to firing. The HMR performs a very useful role for me.
-
HMR has its issues with no doubt, but both my .22lr stay as sub sonic tools these days, the HMR is a big step up on the .22lr and much better than .22lr with HV.

Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Your imagination is up in the clouds, and how many times do you need telling, your squirrel man was not taken to court for shooting a squirrel 5 times, or for using an air rifle or for using solid ammunition, he was taken to court because he left it alive and suffering, that had nothing to do with any suggestion using solid ammo was cruel/inhumane. How on earth can anyone be taken to court for using solid ammo when put in the right place it is very effective. Solid ammo was/still is used for Humane dispatch, are you telling me every vet, RSPCA worker, Pest Controller etc etc that uses the -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Good grief Alsone, don't you get it, there is nothing unsuitable about solid ammo on prey, in some cases it is first choice. What are you waffling on about, the only person who keeps saying its unsuitable/cruel/inhumane is you! There may be some types of ammo that may be more appropriate in some situations, that does not mean that solid ammo is unsuitable, cruel, inhumane and you are going to be hauled before the courts for using it. What has shooting a fox at 50 yards with a .22lr got to do with this, just who has ever suggested a .22lr is a long range fox tool, just another irr -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Both, you can buy solid with your current FAC and you can shoot target as a guest with an authorised/approved club, but if you want a specific target condition, or if you join a club you will need to request a target condition be added to your FAC, and you will only get that as a member of an authorised club. Otherwise you will be limited to Zeroing. It may seem a bit daft (possibly it is a bit daft) but that's the way it is! -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Good grief Alsone, you really are off in another land somewhere, there is Nothing inhumane about using solid ammo to shoot wildlife, in some cases it is preferable to expanding, and your squirrel man had nothing to do with air rifles, solid, expanding or any other type of ammo, the guy was hauled off to court because he left the squirrel alive and suffering, not because he put 5 shots into it from an air rifle! Your comments.... .......... general use for solids as you'd fall foul of humane requirements against live prey. I think you're on pretty shaky ground shooting live prey w -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Open your eyes, who would have any chance of winning any case of causing unnecessary suffering to a rabbit etc using 100ft lb (or more) .22lr Solid when nobody bats an eyelid at 12ft lb air rifle, and you are going backwards on your statement in #11 already, saying rats and mice are fine! So is 2900Ft Lb of energy with a solid on a Boar not Humane? Like I said, take a step back and think about it a bit more, and how many species did you come up with that the LAW states Expanding only? -
Eley Subs Or Eley `high Velocity`?
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've never been a great fan of .22lr HV, but in the early days needs must. Back then I found the Magtech Subs excellent in mine, and the Remington Yellow Jacket HP a useful HV, the CCI Velocitor had its moments too, but it was always difficult to chamber. Don't get too wrapped up in a manufacturer, I have tried a vast amount of what's on the market, and just because your rifle likes one type of ammo from XY or Z manufacturer it doesn't mean it will like another. These days both my .22lr are dedicated Sub tools, if I need more I use my HMR or WMR. -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think you're on pretty shaky ground shooting live prey with solid ammo though Walshie, airguns aside. Thanks for clearing the ammo point up at Bisley. The OP gave the impression there was a blanket ban. If he's wanting to competition shoot with his own rifle, then that puts a whole new complexion on the debate. Alsone, take a step back, he isn't on shaky ground at all, your statement is way to big a generalisation, for instance, I rather favour solid ammo on the Boar, and so do many others with their shotgun slugs as well! How many prey species can you name that the law makes -
Who`s Right......bisley Or Flo??
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
From your conversation with your FEO, do you think perhaps your FEO got the impression that you were enquiring about you target shooting rather than buying solids for general use. If this is the case, then your FEO would have been correct in saying that you can't take part in target shooting unless your FAC is so conditioned and you can't get it conditioned for target shooting unless you are a member of a club. Very good point Charlie. But I'm not sure there is any general use for solids as you'd fall foul of humane requirements against live prey. It's all a bit of a catch -
Thanks all, still not sure I've got my head round this one though.

That's why many of us use the P8 COMPACT .223, .243 and .308 It's shorter and noticeably lighter, although front extension is unchanged (the tube top right is from a full P8 and shows how much bigger it would be on the rifle), the Wildcat Evolution may also be worth a look, but as you say in #6 there are plenty of mods out there and they seem to be getting smaller and lighter, but the price always seems to head north!
-
What sort of SAK have you got on a .223 that is amazingly long.

Which .22Lr Eley Ammunition For Club / Sport?
Deker replied to David Aiken's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It is true that many target shooters use Eley, but just because your rifle likes the Eley Subs, there is no guarantee it will work best with their target rounds. Just the same, there is a fair chance, but as is always said, only you can find out what is best in your rifle by trying them. -
Crumbs, do you have a link, next to nothing eats these in the field except maggots, and many years back I carefully selected and cooked some choice cuts to try myself, once was more than enough!

.22Lr Semi Auto Rifle Options With 6 Shot Magazine?
Deker replied to dodger_moore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'm not following why a semi? I have the Magtech 7022 and it is the cheapest you are likely to find, as Kenj has said they are very light and a great general purpose rifle, and I love mine for what it does BUT....nobody in their right mind buys ANY semi for precision target work at the range. Whilst mine is still remarkably and impressively accurate for what it is, my CZ452 B.A. Silhouette will edge it every time, and a target rifle will easily beat my 452. Best I've done with my 7022 was 10 shots in 1.8 seconds at 100yards, they all went in the black, and witnessed by 10-12 people
