  1. I know this is months olds Phill but if you have not sorted a spotter, have a word with Dave Evans as I am sure he has one of these so could give you good info. Phil
  2. 200yds maybe a big ask but I was going to suggest looking at some of the 'super' head lamps used for sea fishing, I have a led lenser which does 140mts with no problem ( I know that because the field over my cottage garden wall is 140mt to the trees on the other side, ranged it to check) and my unit is about 7 years old, just fitted new 5 year cells so I am sure there are more powerful ones than mine 7 years on. Now a days these head lamps are very very light in weight which makes them comfortable to wear for hours and the beam will be where you are looking. The led lenser range are not chea
  3. To go for rats seriously, an nv will out perform any torch. I shoot on average 5-600 rats per year on a big dairy farm although last year it dropped to less than 100 but nevertheless using something like a Nitesite will allow you to scan an area without causing much if any disturbance. There are plenty of cheap nv systems come on the market that are perfect for ratting. Phil
  4. Oh..........those glands ? That is a nice way to spend a few hours and walk off yesterdays dinner, well done SD. I keep fancying one of those hushpower .410, hmmm Phil
  5. Tight arse. Perhaps not such an issue with you centre fire geezers ? Phil
  6. It is not so much of a rare issue and as said earlier, some cartridges can be quite tricky. When I first bought my Beretta DT10, Cheddite shells would sometimes get stuck yet they are one of the worlds top competition loads so I had the gun sorted by the rfd. It is worth trying a few different cartridges and Eley is a good bet as they seem to have a sightly wider rim but it is not a major job to 'adjust' the ejector to run very slightly tighter however not a job for me, give it to the rfd imo. One thing I am not too sure of is if the unfired cartridge is easy to spin/move around the chamb
  7. I didn't realise Kestral went so high in price Si and well out of my price range so I will have a £15 one and leave the Kestral for you young whipersnappers ? Just been for a walk along the sea wall.....................fcuk me, it was blowing a hooley, poor old Trish had her hands over her ears because of the cold, I did offer to take her sea fishing tomorrow but strangely she said no thanks,,,,,,,, well thats not exactly what she said but you get the idea. ? Phil
  8. Young whipersnapper from Scarborough................................................bloody cheek, wonder if they will let me take my gun on the bus ? Phil
  9. Very well said Stav, I am pleased it has all gone to plan matey, now get ready for the New Year and on that day I will be hitting my 68th birthday...........................oh joy ? Phil
  10. A very merry Christmas to one and all. Phil
  11. In the early 1900's there were a lot of private label guns produced by small gunsmiths around the UK. In Sheffield, where I lived for my first 40 years, there were two gunsmith building guns which carried both their own name and oem names. I suspect this is that sort of gun and to be honest, here in the UK there is a large number of old s/h shotguns stuck in the back of gun shops that will never sell as there is no demand for them. The only real exception is for a known 'English' gun which will find a buyer if in good condition. This gun looks to have had a hard life with pitting in
  12. Waiting for you Mark as I thought we could go together........................................................................................................one old tart to another Phil
  13. The photo is not showing which could be the site as a few people have said they cannot post at the moment. Phil
  14. I have thought a time or two about how useful it would be to establish the wind speed when pellet testing / target shooting so to see just how much POI change there is at different wind strengths but I always thought the anemometers were quite expensive until I looked at them on ebay and for a tenner, you can be in business. Okay, you will pay a bit more for a unit that has wireless function to your phone and one with a swivel head but nevertheless not expensive by any means with the chance to examine just how much effect the wind has on our pellets or slugs without breaking the bank. It also
  15. Christmas eve is here again and my wife, Trish, is preparing some of the food for tomorrow so she is not stuck in the kitchen all day. The rain is slowing down so I might pop out and top up the pheasant feeders then pop over with some xmas goodies to the rfd and have a coffee there. My daughter has gone to work in a santa outfit and despite the fact that she was 24 a couple of weeks ago, she is ALWAYS excited at Christmas to the point that she insists that the traditions we had when she was small are still maintained. I will take this oportunity to wish everyone on here a very merry Chr
  16. Hmmm good idea going b/w Si. That one won't be stuffed and mounted in a glass cabinet. Phil
  17. From what I have gleened, they don't all need to be shimmed, it is down to the individual rifle. My shooting partner has bought one and that needs no shimming at all on his Browning T-Bolt rimfire but the material used by most people is drink cans aluminium. The other alternative is to buy an adjustable weaver mount that the Pard fits onto which can be adjusted in order to offer enough movement to get over your issues. The unit sells at around £90 from Custom Rifle Scopes Ltd and perhaps others..................bits from a drinks can is a touch cheaper ? Phil
  18. I believe if dogs worry sheep on private land, the land owner is within his rights to shoot them. This was an issue we had many many years ago in Derbyshire when walkers and climbers let their dogs run free. I was part of a group the farmers called in to take care of such problems but I am happy to say that on the occassions I was involved, the dogs were not in the area I was patrolling however the dogs were alway found and shot. Phil
  19. James it would be a good idea to change the title of your advert from your name to what you actually want as people will know right from the start what you want. Phil
  20. That is not what she told me.................................? Phil
  21. You are very welcome Jimmy and I am pleased they are working for you. I used these in my old Rapid fac and they were devastatingly accurate but never got round to trying them in sub 12 so now that you have had some decent results, I am going to try them in my 110k along with the hades samples I have got. I only use my 110k for short range shooting, not because it is crap but simply because my go to rifle is the Impact so I tend to use it around the farm building for rats and ferals so it will be interesting to see how they perform. I also never had issues with damaged skirts on these
  22. The problem is the rubber will not sand down to be smooth so causing the pad to drag on your chothes, I know believe me. Have a look on ebay for a Sundridge Sleep Skin which is a thermal under suit worn next to your skin, it is fantastic and you will not need loads of gear on top. I am not sure if they are still made but I put several friends onto them and they can only rave about them being so good but not restrictive at all. Just looked on the bay of plenty, here you go. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=sundridge+sleep+skin+therma
  23. Be a man and stop wearing loads of clothes. ? Have you checked with your rfd to see if they produce a winter pad as a number of Italian companies do so in other words the gun comes with a thicker summer pad and a slimmer winter pad. Might be worth a call to Edgar Brothers. Phil
  24. That quarry looks a very handy place Si for test work with a fair old distance to play in. Phil
