Like that dog, looks handy.

Those Dave sleight videos are perfect for a new comer, just remember all your trying to do is instill the right behavior there will be good days and bad ones, put the time in, don't over do it and always try to stay calm, Rome wasn't built in a day. good luck. p.s with the jumping remember to keep it relative to the dogs size it's not really that difficult for a lurcher and they usually pick it up easily.

superb action pics and lovely looking dogs well done to yah.

3 out of 3 with fair law in January.

nice that's a good working pair of dogs plenty of bunnies there, well in pal.

At the end of the day the greyhound has been bred to catch game for thousands of years and has been running hares for many years more in this country than the saluki hybrids in modern times, and what a spectacle they are, full throttle and really have a go. I have heard plenty of times they would make light work of old reynard. In the states they use them for coyotes, not sure how there lines would fair compared to ours, Like people have said they don't have the most self preservation so have been known to injure themselves, but if your careful and get the right one who knows? I would imagine

very well done man and dog, makes it all worth while nights like that!

Yes she retrieves mate but unfortunately she will not put them in your hand which is rather embarassing with a name like STRAIGHT2HAND lol, she has a soft mouth and will run back the length of a field with them and usual pin them for you to take off her within a few feet of yah, I can live with that so long as she does everything else well cant knock that, hopefully more practice will help with that. maybe pal but I do get the feeling she is in the pattern but you never know if she works out the faster she brings them back the faster the next run comes it might tip it and she may get that

Nice one pal, not arsed about missing more trying to get her to trust the beam a bit more but time and patience will be the remedy Went mad about the hunting on - it's just not acceptable, she hasn't really done that before but when the lamp goes off the dog should be back in simple as - and I let her know that. I hope something started to click, hopefully get out again soon and carry where I let off. ATB S2H

What an eventful night the first half driving and checking a few spots and then finally took a walk and got a rabbit on the first run. I am trying to get the bitch to really start getting the correct approach on squatter's and working the beam properly - this wasn't the case. A few times when called on she just flew off with excitement and didn't even follow the lamp! But that is to be expected of an inexperienced dog on a recently planted field that the rabbits used very well, it was little long really, so 3 more very good runs that all went close, in general a positive start to the lamping.

best of luck to yah, lets hope to see plenty of ruby red eyes glowing back at you the fields

to be fair I think anytime out is a success if there good runs its worth it even if from time to time you feel like a cnut, walking around fields on your own in the pitch black, getting wet and cold in pissing down rain lol, good on yah though its hard finding numbers this day and age you always need a bit of luck as well in terms of whats out on the night. I have seen fields alive in crap conditions and empty when its bang on sometimes I'm just scratching my head.

Thanks for that pal thats helpful that, appreciated

Nice one pal, I would say in tough conditions it's 3 bunnys well done and the dog must be sharp to catch on nights like that! Not sure about you but I find that happens a more than it should, I have headed out a few times and thought it would be great but a load of shite all of a sudden. The other one (I work nights) is clear skies when I'm off and then blowing a gale when I'm on shift! Im don't keep ferrets so sometimes I go out when its stacked against the dog....but she always seems to kill so lets hope tonight turns out a good one!!
-
Hopefully out tonight due to turn cloudy (it's not at the mo) and there is a stiff breeze in the air that's due to hang around! Just wondering if there are others in my position with dogs's ready for there first big season? I know a few fellas on hear have had successful nights at the start of the season but it seems to of been a slow start in general due to the weather. My bitch is as ready as she will be - pre-season at 17 months old, I think is prime time for a decents night lamping, she has had a couple of twos and 3's but only been very local 1 hour walks in shite conditions for just

Defo yes, my pups sire was a 3/4 cross and I think they can be ideal candidates for good all rounders, In most cases you have worked the F1 and decided you have a good base but feel you need to add some speed/height drive - so it seems like a good way to go forward without throwing too many variables in the mix.

I get what your roughly meaning, One of the best dogs I have had - I didn't even know what he actually was but he had deer hound in him for sure but I am not sure what else???? It looked like a nice dog and ended up being a cracker. Genetics throws a few curve balls as we all know but for me all the time and commitment we put into our lurchers - you have to go on the highest percentage for success in what you want achieve and leave the least possibility to just plain plain pot luck. If your into hares in a big way surely your going to look at a saluki cross predominately even if there is somet

hope he enjoyed it seems like a long time ago I did the same with my dad then I caught the bug!!!
-
nice just got back myself but a clear sky full set of stars in the sky but a bit of wind helped me put 3 in the bag and keeps the bitch sharp.
-
shes about 26 mate very strong bitch fast and showing good signs as a good all rounder.

Wind Was Up So Hour Are So With Lamp
straight2hand replied to Richie87's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
good night well in -
only problem I could see is the unpredictability in terms of which way it would throw. Ideally a 25" dog would be great but I imagine it might go one way or the other and then you would lose the benefits of the other dog in the cross.. maybe but.... you never know with running dogs! I will all ways stick to the lurchers I think,
-
Yeah it's a bit cooler but today round my way glorious sunshine! very hard ground, clear sky tonight and no wind ...I will wait but that doesn't mean I want too pal!!!! I am not fussy and get out when I can I just need a run of good weather, will take this bitch to the next level!!!
