  1. seen a couple and they weren't that good. Not as quick as the collie lurchers on the day, and not as brave... Good hunters though in woodland and fellsideI'd have to see the parents working first like ! This foxhound X bull grey is suiting my needs at the moment great hunter and plenty of guts ! Never be a lamping dog which doesn't bother me Go for a fell hound or trail hound for a lamping dog! Much leaner than a normal foxhound. When you list the things a hound brings to lurcher lines it amazes me that they are not a popular cross but I must admit I wouldn't want too many knobs getting into
  2. to be fair the grandfather of my dog had slightly bigger ears more hound like and was a bit chunkier but that's why the hill was used, much leaner than the standard foxhound if you look at the body of a fell hound very lean and athletic - perfect to be lined with a sight hound!
  3. Yes pal I read it tried to get my uncle to write in but hes not really an extrovert to be honest! But all the things Hancock said ring true to be fair this cross has been around and a few people use it, my uncle started a line about 20 years ago. not bad for a 1/2 fell hound 1/2 greyhound ehhh Very nice looking dog mate. Knowing nothing about this X, do you have to work harder on recall with them for lamping? As a hound in general will range a lot more than maybe some of our more standard crosses, I can certainly get the extra stamina this dog would offer... They have all w

  7. Nice him mate, one I owned in the 80's Cracker! Something about the deer hound I love, so laid back - absolutely cool as a cucumber but when the step on the field they fear nothing and take everything in there stride.
  8. Absolutely agree. I think the best type out there would be the German Wire haired pointer to make a good all round lurcher but there is no unique pull from adding this blood the collie already brings all of it to the table and you have a higher chance of a collie cross doing the job because we have so many example of good collie crossing doing everything needed - so why take the gamble?
  9. The bull x is not for me but from some I have seen the good can be very good. The trouble is the wastage of litters and the amount of dickheads that are drawn to this cross because they look like "beasts" some of the dogs don't actually pass as lurchers to me. Most are too heavy to be good all rounders as to catch the quickest prey the dog has to be fast. Its a real shame for the lurcher world because there are too many poor example of the bull and there are too many nibblers breeding shite with shite.
  10. Pic aint the best, like you say, but he looks a cracking strong type. I really like him Very strong dog, I remember the first time he met old Reynard, the fox had him by the face! Unfortunately He had to let go at some point and when he did Blue got to grips with him. Very good rabbit dog though he made some great catches one in particular I remember to hit a highland cow - did a somersault somehow got back on his feet and caught the rabbit. He seemed to have a second wind you thought he was finished and then he just seemed to come alive again with plenty in the tank. Really rated him.
  11. My old Deerhound x a long time ago! I am not sure what he actually was but he was about 27" but had a slight frame so he may of had a slither of saluki in him but it must of been diluted if he did. Top class lamping dog he took all game. My uncle acquired him, the lad just swapped him for a ferret as he didn't have time for him. He was a bit mangey and skinny - built him up, gave him time and he turned out a classy dog. Shame the picture is crap he was and nice bridle cast in blue and that was his name, Blue.
  12. Im on the Clulite LED Lazerlite its a strong beam paired with a 9ah Lithium you get alot of lamping off a charge
  13. Very nice is that the half cross? I would imagine a 3/4 would be very nice too.
  14. seen a post like this before, there are two Hungarian viszla's by me and I always thought they might line to a greyhound well as they are very lean dogs and move quite well. to be honest though German Wire haired x grrehound look the most robust type. Someone has one on here one, it looks very nice.
  15. I think the point of the post is are the dogs worth the money people pay for them? For me NO! The hype that these crosses generate can be quite astounding, join a lurcher face book group and look at how many litters there are with saluki/grey lines advertised with the blah blah x blah blah - all I know is all these dogs cannot be what people say they are! the feeders hang onto a few good dogs names. But in saying that some great saluki dog out there are very impressive animals. The amount of people who claim to have 3/3 dogs is unreal, there are dogs out there that can do it consisten
  16. All depends on the owners standards! If you have a dog bred to take everything and it doesn't could you live with it? Could you put up with a dog that didn't retrieve or couldn't jump? For me if the dog didn't like charlie but it excelled in other areas you might still work it but I wouldn't be interested in breeding from it. For me to breed from a dog it would have to be consistently doing what you want it to do because (excuse the pun) it could bite you the arse later on.
  17. true, a dog knows that the fox will nail him dead quick, so after few bites from them, they will hold back , same with a deer(stag) that stands its ground and wont run no more, that same dog would hold back on that . the size, or type od dog dont come into it, its if its got the bottle, some dogs born with it,and some are not, its just luck of the draw which pup you pick, you need lot of luck , to get a tough dog that will handle all quarry Well said, what can really shock me is how laid back or sensitive some lurcher's can seem to be but when they are on the field or put into the bi
  18. All about entering at the right time and in the best way you can - which can be down to a bit of good luck, but for some reason some dogs get bitten and don't fancy it again even from a proven line or..... they develop a hatred for the things and shake a little harder next time lol.
  19. Sound very interesting how much would you be asking for one of those?
  20. few people on her use quads x country and just let the dogs keep up with them, great way of covering ground at a good pace. But I'm old school and like to do things the hard way!
  21. not worth the risk for me - all things come to those who wait, especially if you can get a lamp with an older dog anyway. But the dogs unscathed and off the mark so no harm done. Be just right for next season in 12 months time
  22. Thats that picardy x bouvier des flandres x greyhound is it no?t I liked the look of that animal how is it doing? He is coming on well fella 27 tts maybe go another inch.he has a good prey drive and cracking nose on him.Been spending my time socialising him and teaching him manners don,t want him to be aggressive but i can already see he not going to suffer fools willingly. He is very bright and got a great character. It's early days yet he not eleven months old but i don't think there is there will much he wont tackle. Nice one, I will keep an eye out for that dog! as I said it l
  23. Had to get one! I must admit at first I was a bit surprised how chunky it was and was unsure (1.5") but it has really grown on me. Top quality bit of kit from Aaron. Hopefully gives people a bit of a reference of what it looks on, This bitch is 26 tts (I think you need a reasonable sized dog for this size collar).
