  1. are you using lithium pal? where abouts you run the dogs if your from sandhurst Im not miles away
  2. I am sure most are in a similar position, I'm trying to keep the dog fit and lean on the bike been a good while now...but also out of the sun!!! Throwing the odd night in when there is cloud cover, but then - no wind!!!, Down South today was like mid July/August. My current bitch's first proper season, She has probs had about 25-30 rabbits last season and a couple of trips out so far but nothing I would deem a proper nights work but she looks to be a good lamper at 17 month old but...she needs work and then I will know what I have and she can show me what she's got! It is such a patient game b
  3. a lot of crosses these days e.g spaniel/terrier, terrier/beagle but which way would they throw? To go the earth or not go to earth that is the question lol, I think terrier is the best but like you lads mentioned do you want to take it all the way these days!
  4. bit of brains with the russell but like you say they are an earth dog at heart, beagles can be good but then it swings the other way and they haven't the heart in some situations.
  5. They are funny fuckers to be fair they will have a pop off if they feel the need to, they would make good ratters too, there game and powerful dogs.deary deary meI own one pal, not saying they are dogs of war as I said earlier mine killed a rabbit and ate it whole and its killed rats and crows before, it weighs 25kg and can run all day, It would happily work rats all day that's all I'm saying. That was me being funny on dogs of war,,,I always thought there main role was guard dogs,,,before Walt Disney and plls wanting there coats in London oh sorry pal I wasn't really reading that bit unt

  9. Good advice in general I would say but as a lot of people would say depends on the dog and time of year it's ready etc etc some dogs are ready for a run earlier...but it's always a risk running a younger dog as bad habits can surface because it's too early, as well as to much strain can hamper a young dog in the long run. A couple of runs at 10 months wont kill any dog but its all about getting the right sort of behaviors set at the first stage.
  10. They where bred for spots long before the Walt Disney films.... but the popularity of the films didn't help the breed and like all breeds sooner or later the wrong type of people get hold of them and a load of shite ensues, As a dalmation owner they are independent animals, they are driven and yes they have amazing stamina. They have the physical attributes of a working dog and a little fire in the belly but there are a lot of proven breeds out there with all that as well as the mental attributes needed for the field. If I thought other wise I would of thrown a greyhound over my bitch all rea
  11. I might be wrong but i think they were bred for running alongside carrages. That became there job, I think originally they where Shepard dogs and later used for ratting and the stage coaches scaring dogs and people out the way of the cart. They could easily do 30 mile a day behind horse I hear, I can vouch they do have a lot of stamina for sure.
  12. Lad who owned the dam to my pup sent me a picture of the pup he kept from the litter, he's been busy apparently its taking everything thrown in front of it. Absolute spit of my dog. Here are both of them the dog is the top one the bitch is mine at the bottom.
  13. He cant be that special can he??? On a real note, I do have a real Dalmation in terms of stamina it has bags of it, caught a young rabbit and eat it whole!!!, it's also killed 2 crows and a rat.
  14. to be honest my battery was on its way out and I have since changed to lithium and got the new LED Cluson Lazerlight its a great lamp though.
  15. Thats what I did pal DIY upgrade
  16. If the dogs mature early enough then I would say 7 months on wards but I would say keep it to only a couple of runs at a time and pick your rabbits very carefully and stack everything in the dogs favor at the end of the day it's about getting the right behavior in the early days and building confidence.
  17. good lamps cluson are fecking reliable anything, cant go wrong with a cluson
  18. simple the dogs done too much give it a good rest plenty of water and keep it cool best you can, the dogs ran a hare and it wasn't fit enough by the sounds of it. They are natures greatest athlete IMO
  19. I ran a greyhound bitch last season, opened my eyes to a lot of things. IMO they are underestimated and add a lot more to lurcher breeding than people them credit for. I would only use a greyhound for a base in lurchers and all lurchers owe an incredible amount to the grey, trouble is they are not the most responsive of dogs and are so driven will do themselves in but f**k me those things can move they really are an athlete
  20. Not on the lamp but my pups grandfather a F1 lurcher was bred out of a greyhound that killed a fox that another dog knocked up, greyhounds are incredibly powerful and driven animals they are no softies.
  21. Ideal rabbit dog I would say on the lamp as well, I've seen something like that run cant remember exact make up but lightening quick take off and could turn on a penny. It got run over one night I think.
  22. There are good reasons why the lurcher was created as apposed to pure sight hounds being used on the lamp, you would be better off with a pure whippet imo
  23. Have you been out on the lamp with your dog yet pal?
