  1. Obedience in a lamping dog because it is no good running a dog that doesn't work to heel on the beam, retrieve or recall as it could be killed in the field, the dog must be stock broken, jump barb fences, and tackle all quarry (Preban) so must be keen as mustard. It's a hard balance sometimes to get a great lamper but when you get one its worth all hard work!
  2. thanks , are they much different then to fell hounds,? are these the ones they use for the race, they looked in the vid to have great stamina and fair pace about them, as said maybe 3/8 trail hound x 5/8 grey might not be bad lurcher. if you wanted a dog for hard long night lamping , my mate had bull x grey x foxhound x grey , but that was massive prob only good for one thing lol. the trail hound x grey might make better type alround lurcher. The videos that the lads put up are of trail hounds and their test is a race that comprises of stamina and speed with the hound using it's nos
  3. These dogs do everything you would expect of a lurcher and I have always worked a lurcher off the lead to heel on the lamp, Tan (the first x) is the only lurcher my uncle has owned (and he has had many in about 35 years in the game) that actually had a pop at someone who approached him while out lamping - hair standing up and teeth out the lot! He did everything required run, jump, catch and carry. The sister did the same, they just lacked that speed for a hare. My uncle bred the lines and I had the dog for two seasons and believe me my uncle couldn't tolerate a lurcher that didn't do as it w
  4. are fell hounds quite on the hunt , compared to other sent hounds ? watching the vid I got the feeling they were, just senting but going flat out after sent, not like normal hounds . a 3/8 fell x 5 /8 grey sounds good % you ever seen any bred like tha I think the fellhound does give mouth in a pack but obviously when you pick a pup you choose one thrown to the greyhound as you don't want something too heavy, The first cross (Tan his name was) certainly never opened while hunting neither did his sister Rosie. These are my uncles lines he chose the Fell as it is a racy-er form of the f
  5. Fair play for taking the dog back mate, F knows what they where doing with the poor thing - What people do behind closed doors....?????? What do they get out of watching a dog deteriorate like that?
  6. To be honest I wouldn't bother because the insurance company's are all rip off merchants!!!
  7. Well done mate, hard work pays off! And even when it doesn't you have to give yourself the highest chance of the dog bringing it back by preparation in the first place! ATB
  8. This is my puppy 3/4 Greyhound/1/4 Fellhound x Saluki/Collie/Whippet/Greyhound, I worked the original first cross Fell/Grey and owned the brother to this pups sire. This cross grafts with stamina to burn and really strong animals all round none of the dogs in this line have ever gave mouth, I think the foxhound cross has worked.
