Always been illegal to run bambi in beam mate Ok, When ya wearing a balaclava....how do you stop dogs hunting on after bambi when running it out the beam? ha. same way you stop a dog running rabbits when its not in the beam you turn off and the dog comes back doesn't it? Not to my knowledge, Rabbits 9 times out of 10 usually are down a hole once the dog's missed so he trots back. Never seen a fallow manage that trick yet ! what was your dog doing then mate? crashing through woods on it own like a manic chasing deer round on its own agenda? haha something along tho

I fecking hope not. . . that would be rather upsetting. . . . not for me pal I find a dog running around in the dark on its own more so upsetting.

Bit of a long shot but anyone know anyone selling a deerhound/greyhound bitch or something similar, ideally would be 15 months old +, Preferably Northern England but could travel for the right dog, I know its unlikely but you never know.

Most people would agree that the bull type lurcher has all the attributes for foxes and were used preban to take them regularly but there are plenty of crosses that have done the job from collies to deerhounds, bull type dogs have that bit of aggression and didn't need to entered as carefully as other types, I don't really think that makes them superior but gives you more of a guarantee they will do the job.

are they tied behind the tree

Any dog can read human emotion pal, and if your saying a saluki stands near a herding type or anything else in terms of intellect I think you have tunnel vision mate. I was referring in terms of how they where used traditionally, not really rained in, the nomadic way of life etc - yes they have adapted into our way of life and certainly will run a hare into the ground, but so can a beagle. The post is about all round salukis, your a fan, I'm not really thats my preference but they do have merits that I wont knock and proberly more than people will recognize, just lets not paint them to be some
-
very good post mate and your right percentages are thin, thinner than say a litter of saluki lurchers bred in pink, but if we don't try we don't get, but I agree with a lot of what you say and that's why I say too them that want hares alone go for saluki lurcher every time, like a greyhound , deerhound, whippet a saluki is something you have to want to run for what it is, not what you or your mates want it too be, that's often where the trouble starts is it not, Your right there pal! If every dog turned out how we hoped it would the lurcher game would be boring and we would all have world
-
I am sure there are a few examples of pure Salukis being used as all rounder working dogs out there, Like there are greyhounds that can be lamped and whippets that fly into big dog foxes etc. The question I ask is how many out of 10 would make all rounders? I believe the percentage would be very slim. Salukis with there nomadic roots where not really designed to work with people as such, like a collie or a herding dog, or a lurcher? Yes they would hunt and kill, and provide but they are more of a point and run animal, they are also not particularly intelligent like all sighthounds (not tha

I always thought there is something in tomatoes that helps the dogs draw nutrients out of its food. I give the dog some tinned sardines in tomato sauce every couple of days.

I wouldn't own a dog that can't work to heel, for me the dog isn't really working with you otherwise, but if your out running a pair you have to keep one on the slip to control the situation. if you let a dog hunt up in the day time it will do it off the lead in the night so I don't allow it.

Try and remember you will make mistakes all along the way but if you get the right advice and follow it you will get there in the end, a 12 month old dog wouldnt really know what it was doing anyway and if you haven't got a clue you could still feck a 4yo, good working dog even if it did know the ropes, So best to get a pup like people said and you can both make mistakes together. If you do go for a pup go for something that's easier to train. ATB S2H

true mate above , i can only go on my own dog, and he done everything i wanted him to , he good in the day mooching good nose , and great in the lamp . His temp Brill, great with people and good with other dogs, but in the field he full on,, gives 100% . One thing did surprise me , was how agile he is for big dog, he picks rabbits up easy, his best bag 37 in the lamp . there not for everybody i can see that , but a alsatian = gsd deff puts power ,guts, brain in to a lurcher or lurcher line . Just wondering bird? How about's did you end up with the ally
-
My advise is pick your nights, for example when there is no moon and there is plenty of cloud, that way the dog will only see what you show it. The dog will soon start to add up you and the lamp are the source of the rabbits and that you are the one in control of it. Don't worry too much the dog about spotting moving targets the dog will soon start to watch the beam, focus more on the right behavior at first e.g recall as soon as the lamp goes off etc. IMO the easy part is getting the dog to chase the rabbits the difficult part is getting to curb it all and go when you say and to start to work

stop start for me too, all thought the bitch holds condition very well she is very driven not alot you can do when your at the weathers mercy. She has thrown in a couple of ok pulls but not hit double figure yet buts she can only run what is put in front of her...

I think the bull x truly is the marmite dog!!! They have undoubted qualities and well bred ones can be handy animals but personally not for me unless it was watered down a bit. The dog at the top of post looks too heavy for me, more bull than anything else If you were breeding a litter like that I would be culling those ones and going for the greyhound like ones. Just my opinion.

I had a Russell bitch called Zulu because she had a mask, cracking name I always thought.
