Do you write fiction for a living? This is the worst time of year to get permission. Crops aren't under pressure from pigeons, etc. That was two or three month's ago at least. If you hear shotguns blasting away, which you won't for reason given above, it is unlikely that a farmer will allow anyone else onto the land even if he has the right to give permission which many if not most tenant farmers haven't. Even less so for an air gunner. As for shooting a lot more pigeons decoying with an air rifle than a shotgun I always thought that you had to take Mark's posts with a pinch o

No jealousy from me. I'm just surprised that someone is so willing to pay a company to remove burrs that were never there in the first place. -
It might be slow starting at this time of year. The squirrels may be up in the branches harvesting whatever is coming into season for the next month or two. The best time is when there is little natural food available and they are living off their larders from September onwards. You haven't said what you intend feeding with. That would dictate what type of feeder you use. For grain such as wheat just adapt a suitably sized plastic container. As long as it is free flowing in wet weather the squirrels shouldn't damage it. The refill time depends on how big the container is and how long they

Mick McCarthy Barnsley born and bred with Irish grand parents. Jack Charlton persuaded him that he would be better registering as Irish as he would get more international games for Ireland than for England. I suppose it was the same with Gareth Bale

Dashed unsporting if you ask me. He'll be using sticks next I've done a bit of feeder shooting and there is good sport to be had shooting them off the branches or as they briefly sit and look around before they approach.

Squirrels take wheat grain from pheasant feeders and also from the edge of the growing crop in fields. You will see them running from the woods or heges to nearby wheat fields. They nip the wheat ears off and carry a few at a time to a place on the ground where they then eat them. It can be good shooting if you see one working the field edge. In winter when the pheasant feeders are filled you'll see squirrels coming from miles around to get to the wheat. If you see a feeder with wheat scattered about all around it then that's a sign of a squirrel having been there. They scatter more than they

Don't see why not. Shame that Ramsay won't be in the semis though.

Best of luck with that. I tried doing it once. Put about six large bottles in the outside coal place to ferment. Two weeks later there was a massive explosion as one bottle burst and the shrapnel took out the others. The coal place was drenched in nettle pop and we had wasps trying to get in all summer. Never again

Hardly any wasps about round here due to the cold, wet spring that has gone on for ever. Loads of ant hills in gardens though and loads of rats aboutin chicken coops and outbuildings. I'm doing double on the mole job compared to last year and the next hatch of young will be with us any day now. The ground is still wet so I expect them to be ranging out in the open garden areas whereas in a normal year they would stay out of the way until October. Strange year for sure.

They play fantastically well for their clubs week in and week out. But when they play for England they aren't playing with the same team mates, not following the same tactics and sometimes not even in their favoured positions. Kane is fantastic at holding the ball up, yet Roy played him in a way that he had to go looking for the ball. He is good in the air, yet ended up taking corners and free kicks. Vardy thrives on through balls as a result of a counter attack. But England try to play the ball out slowly and carefully. If they are going to play like ManU why pick players from Tottenham and L

So by and large it was pretty much like every other tournament then pal ?......haha Jokes aside, the paddys were queuing up to give it me large last night when I got to football !.......my main enjoyment has been watching how well the West Ham players have been doing. I have been proud as punch to see how good they are and think that they play for our little club. Anyway, a few of my pals were in Nice and the weather looked tidy so at least you get that as comfort Seems like our boy Payet is stealing the show on the pitch and Super Slavs stealing the show in the tv studio from w

The Freedom of Movement argument is just pro-EU people posturing. Junckers and Tusk are fortunate in that they don't have to face an electorate. The French, German, Spanish and Italian leaders do and it is them who will make the decisions, not the EU. Freedom of movement as an obligation to trade with the EU is an ideology that will quickly be dropped when the reality of 200,000 German workers losing their jobs as a result of it being rejected kicks in. Already the American press are reporting that the UK is in the driving seat and that Merkel and Hollande amongst others are facing pressure t

Yes Dave I agree that Corbyn is going nowhere. But not in the way that you mean

No. Look again. It says, and I quote: "These people, many of whom are unheard of, cannot stand any form of democracy" CANNOT STAND ANY FORM OF DEMOCRACY That's what it says. So how exactly did they come to be democratically elected representatives of their constituents? Maybe they've changed their minds about democracy since Corbyn's election or maybe they can stand it when it goes their way, that's pretty obvious I would have thought. Shame on the Durham Miners Association for being slightly hyperbolic Are you trying to say the Blairites AREN'T being antidemocratic or are you just e

Laughable! "These people, many of whom are unheard of, cannot stand any form of democracy" They were elected by democratic means so how the feck can they not be able to stand any form of democracy? And as for: "many of whom are unheard of" That is a reflection on the writer's ignorance. I would imagine he / she would prefer all MPs to appear in Celebrity Big Brother of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here so they get better known Feckwit! Trying to depose a democratically elected leader and overturn the result of a democratic referendum, yep the Blairites love democracy! Prop

A view from the French Prime Minister: And he's not the only one doubting the EU's popularity amongst the public.

I think that England have almost a great team. They are four players short, three if you swap Hart for Butland when he's fit. The main reason they lost was that Hodgson's tactics are at fault. England have four brilliant attacking full backs to choose from, but the price they pay for this is making attackers back track to defend. That stifles their chance of counter attacking quickly. So they end up trying to walk the ball into the goal instead of playing decisive through balls because by the time the forwards have got back in position all the opposition defenders are also back. Hodgson is

I'm not so sure. For one thing petrol is a lot cheaper in litres than in gallons but a 2lb roach sounds bigger than a one kilo one even though it isn't. Technically a 2lb roach is 10% smaller than a 1kg one. Which is why I said that it isn't

Right! That's Cameron, Osborne, Corbyn, Hodgson, Rooney and Hart out of a job. Who says there are no employment opportunities in the UK?
