Worst mole trap ever, for me ! (Putange)
Nicepix replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I usually use orange paint to mark putange sites in customer's gardens. But this was in a public place so I used a more discrete marker. There are newly introduced by-laws about people using marker paint on the roads and verges as every time there is a cycle race or building work people were spraying arrows and directions all over the place. I think it might also be something to do with the 'Anti Macron' markings on all the local roads ? A friend of a friend heard about my using paint to mark trap sites so he went out and bought some green spray paint to mark his own traps sites. -
Worst mole trap ever, for me ! (Putange)

Its not the putange's drawback. Its human error and bad luck. A couple of weeks ago I put two stainless putanges in a grass verge at the side of a lane to head off a mole reaching my customer's garden while I was away on holiday. I marked it with a discrete plastic plant marker. Literally 30 minutes before I returned to the location the groundsman cut the verge using an industrial Iseki tractor that totally removed all trace of the trap site. I need a metal detector to find them again. In the same week I've lost an original stainless Flatpack due to contractors scraping the soil away wher -
I have an old, 1970's Weihrauch HW70 break-barrel .177 air pistol that I occasionally use for dispatching rats in cage traps and a bit of garden plinking. Once I also used it at 3 to 4 metres on free range rats in a neighbour's garden. I might have been lucky, but four shots equalled four dead rats. All head shots on still targets and all went down in the same manner as when hit by the pellet from an 11 ft-lb Prosport at greater distances. I don't do it regularly. It was a one-off due to circumstances, but it does show that even a 3 ft-lb pistol at short range can kill a rat. I wouldn't c

Worst mole trap ever, for me ! (Putange)

The best way to start with putanges is on turf. Cut out a duffus sized rectangle but sides slightly bevelled not vertical. Pop the putanges in prongs upward and secure them with a single piece of wire before replacing the clod. As long as the trigger is in the right place you can't go wrong. -

What are the latest Flatpack stainless traps like? I got my last lot about three years ago and they weren't a patch on the first lot I bought. They had changed the shape of the trap to a wider profile and reduced the gauge of the steel. I ended up putting them in a vice and squeezing them to 65mm but then they needed a bit more tuning than the originals did. -

You took against putanges right from the start. Well before you actually handled one you were giving your negative comments about them. And, yes you are obsessed. Just look at your posting history. Ruminating over every little detail and making post after post containing a combination of snide comments and self-acclaim. They are littered with hypocrisy and lies. When you are asked direct questions you fail to answer them. "I might have emailed the putange guy......" Anything but an admission. Top and bottom is that you are jealous. Jealous that the world has passed you by and nobody takes -

Putanges have been in use for over 300 years and so there is absolutely no chance of anyone registering the design or patenting them. There are also many variations of the design. That makes it harder for anyone to champion this type of trap as there isn't the monetary incentive. At the end of the day it should be up to Ministry officials to determine what type of trap is humane or not, but given the results of a similar test a few years ago the results are swayed by their lack of experience and knowledge. Also, the only trap I've found that can be used efficiently straight out of the box is t -

You made comments about putanges, all negative, over two years before you actually bought some to try. Why would I or anyone else be swayed by your opinions? Despite your dislike of these traps you seem to be obsessed with them and see them as a challenge to your, ahem, experience for what it is. As you have never used them you cannot comment about their efficiency or the humane way they catch moles. Your earlier comment questioning one of the captures shows your naivety. Anyone who uses these traps will have seen just how humane they are. The chances of a foul capture with a Putange are far l -

So you take advice from half-wits? Perhaps that explains why you aren't smart enough to work out how to use two pieces of bent metal despite watching the videos. You aren't really doing yourself any favours are you? -

I understand that you were offered a full refund for the return of the traps. You declined that offer asking to keep the traps you so obviously dislike but wanted a partial refund of £10. The e-mails can be published if there is any contradiction. I am not going to engage in a prolonged debate with you as your position is like a pile of slime; no form or substance and when you put pressure on it just oozes out of the cracks and slides away. There is enough already posted on here by others to show you as you are. You appear to have opinions about my practices. Perhaps if you could ev -

Just popped in to settle a few points. The OP, Mr. McWhinney has made a right tool of himself sending threatening emails to the ebay seller after he unsuccessfully tried to blag the name of the manufacturer out of him. He hates putanges that much he wants to know who makes them LOL There is no such thing as a 'genuine' putange so there is no such thing as a fake. Putange is the name of a type of trap like a car is a type of vehicle. There are loads of manufacturers making and selling putanges, some good, some not so good. Just like any other type of trap. A few years back I gave the name -
Squirrels Above Suspended Ceiling
Nicepix replied to jackg's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I've taken a call this morning about a supposed rat problem. The customer hasn't see anything but has hear scurrying from under the floor boards. Given his location I'm tipping that when I get there on Monday it will be a squirrel job. They are all reds here so a live trap cage will be the best option. The other thing we get over here are lerot, or garden dormouse. They really are pests as they will eat through any cables or plastic pipes. One customer had a newish 'C' Class Merc' trashed by them while he was away from home for three months last winter. Mouse traps usually work for them. -
You definitely got shafted he is probably the most expensive tuner out there just saying Yes, maybe. But how many other tuners can find burrs to polish out on a TX? The man is a genius
-
Good one Bry! They all count I first used the vertical trap inside a chicken coop where I couldn't find the tunnel, but there was a massive molehill. So I popped a Putange down the shaft and Bingo! Since then I've had a few when the tunnels are inaccessible due to roots or other obstructions. I use Talpex in some conditions. But, for those tunnels just under turf or in stony soil you can't beat the Putanges IMO. The gardens out around Ruffec and Civray are like builder's rubble. Full of limestone chips and larger pieces. You would struggle to find a tunnel straight enough to fit a Duff

It is the same with what ever you are freezing; pigeon breasts, fruit or boilie fishing baits. The trick is to keep moving them about until the outer surface is sufficiently frozen so as they don't stick together. So if you put your rabbits in the freezer, turn them after an hour or so and they shouldn't stick to the freezer or each other. With soft fruit or pigeon breasts try and freeze them on a tray rather than in a bag and give them a stir after half an hour and again after an hour and then they should then remain as individual pieces and not clump together.

What was the problem? Thanks guys. U. I bought 7 or 8 at an auction at a very reasonable price and kept two back, a 78 and a 79. It was the uncertainty of the power output. Maybe I had a duff gun, but the pellet speed dropped considerably from the first two or three shots and then again after about 10 or 12 shots. After that it just continued downhill. The 79 was a lot better, but not as good handling as the 78. Too nose heavy and expensive to run compared to my HW77.

Over here it is amazing just where they turn up. Right in the middle of towns and cities, canals, lakes and rivers. I honestly think that the only reason there aren't more caught in the UK is that people don't fish for them unless they know that they are there. If I were looking to catch a catfish in the Thames or Trent I'd look for a regular match stretch and fish it straight after the match with a big dead bait.
-
Brilliant. Whilst I liked the 78 in many ways, I couldn't get on with co2. But I'm glad that you can.

Disagree.......There's too many of us in the UK. There's too many of the wrong sort in the UK. Where is all this money going to come from to pay for the non-workings that come over, or for the child benefit they send back home. How many billion £ a year is sent to Poland? They're getting richer and we're getting poorer and the polish workman is working for next to nothing , taking jobs off UK men. There's plenty out there more than willing to work for less than minimum wage. Immigration is causing our population to rise and rise and rise. We don't have enough money to support all these ext

Thank feck the deluge appears to have stopped. We barely had a day without rain from New Year's Day to the end of June. Mole jobs in the first three months was about the same as last year and then it went beresque from March onwards with the second broods being evicted from the nests, and jobs that I would normally complete in three or four visits were taking six or seven. At one point I had traps out in five departments! I'm still picking up new jobs, mainly from those who have poor drainage and are hosting everybody else's moles. The third hatch of young will be hitting the gardens any d
