  1. I'm getting more sceptical too. Here Brexit team are basically isolated from the Government and will be the fall guys for any failures.
  2. If h has any serial numbers or other means of ID it would pay to let York Farm Auctions know of them so as they don't get through their monthly farm sales.
  3. Why are you under the impression you have to agree with every single thing the party does to support them? Obviously if support for gays is a red line for you then don't vote for the party but I'd say it'd be a bit silly if everything else the party advocates would benefit you in your day to day life, wouldn't you?Personally I'd prefer a more socially conservative economically leftist party (seems to be what you're getting at) but if the left split like that they'd never see power again no matter the mood of the public. With a different electoral system we could have smaller leftist parties wi
  4. Nice one JD. I'd rather catch them at that size on carp tackle than the monsters on sea fishing gear any day (or night).
  5. In an 11.5 ft-lb air rifle the pellets would end up like an old sixpence if shot at a tin can. The pellets don't go through tin roofs. With rats and ferals they dropped them stone dead, head or chest shots. They aren't as accurate as AA Fields, etc, but I only used them specifically for short range ratting and ferals where I wanted to minimise any risk of damage. This gives an indication what sort of trauma they can inflict......... A normal AA Field or Express just drills a 5mm hole straight through an apple with a slightly larger exit hole, and in a squirrel's chest ends up like
  6. Have you run out of rabbits to shoot on your permission Mac? Might as well stay in the garden if you have to take your own targets
  7. Just a point about the comment earlier regards cleaning the traps. Does anyone clean squirrel traps to remove the scent of previous captures? I regularly put mole traps down that still have bits of fur and skin on them sometimes taken up at one job and put down at another job the same day. Also with rats I never bother to clean any blood or fur off the traps or in the trap box. I've got some live catch traps that I shoot the rats with an air pistol that have had quite a lot of dried blood on them. Are squirrels that different?
  8. Doesn't matter who is in charge. Labour as a party are doomed IMO. Sad to say, but I can't see any left wing revival. The world is changing. Britain in the 70's is France today. Left wing policies being usurped by an increasingly capitalist society. Labour of the forties and fifties can hold their heads high. But since Kinnock it's been downhill all the way.
  9. I think he's got more chance than the shower of shite in the PLP Honestly though my and others support for Corbyn isn't just about him leading us to some great socialist victory in a GE, it's about changing the internal workings of the party making it more democratic giving power back to the members and trying to undo the damage done by Kinnock, Blair and Brown. He can then lay the ground work for a younger more dynamic leftist leader to take over from him and who knows where they will lead the party. Oblivion springs to mind
  10. Exactly, you wouldn't take a Ferrari off roading ha ha! I had a 9mm garden gun given to me that I used for rook squabbing and also ratting on a pig farm. You could have used that in barns quite safely without causing any damage to the buildings or pigeon breasts, not that I'd ever eat a feral. And if the pigeons flew off it would have been capable of bringing them down at short range. That's why I used it on the pig farm;- you could hit rats on the move and sometimes take out 2 with one shot. I only stopped using it when it became difficult to find cartridges with number 6 shot. You cou
  11. I really, really wish that there could be a socialist party in the way that it was in the Wilson, Callaghan, Healey era. I gave up on it when Kinnock took over and am still a little suspicious about the Smith and Cooke deaths. I said right from the very start that Blair was a Tory plant. They were unelectable and so he, backed by Murdoch and co. took over the shambles that was the Labour Party and turned it into a psuedo-Tory party. It has never been the same since. Ed Milliband and Ed Balls are not Labour people. They are just using it as an alternative to gain power. Corbyn might be the left

  13. I think they were Records. The factory was staffed by slaves, many taken during WWII so it wouldn't have been a dynamic forward thinking outfit. they would nick someone else's designs and make them worse. The shot was probably the sweepings up from the factory floor.
  14. Years ago there was a guy on our shoot who used Baikal cartridges.Every time he got a left and a right the fire brigade used to turn up looking for the field that was on fire
  15. As soon as I saw it I dropped the board shut and made a hasty exit. Vipers are the terriers of the snake world - they come forward rather than retreat backwards like adders. A mate of mine was chased across his garden by one he disturbed under some roof tiles.Same bloke had a rat run over his hand, across his shoulders and over the other hand while he was 20 foot up a ladder and had three days in hospital after a spider bit him. Lucky Terry I call him.
  16. Do you tell them to leave the pizza at the end of the driveway?
  17. And I thought it was that your Mum wouldn't let you have a proper gun
  18. If you don't want Muslims knocking on your door you really should stop ordering take aways.
  19. Thatcher did better than anybody taking on Europe, she got us a huge rebate. And went along with the drawing up of the Maastricht Treaty which she would have signed if she hadn't been deposed.
  20. The viper is the most common venomous snake and they are widely distributed especially in the south. We were on holiday last week and there was a sign warning people not to get too close to a wall near a shop due to the vipers. There is a less common viper, adders and Aesculapian snakes which are constrictors, not venomous. I had one of those in a trap last year. I see grass snakes swimming in rivers and lakes virtually every time I go fishing in summer,
  21. Been out on mole patrol today and as I lifted a cover to check on a pair of Putanges that are down permanently I found a viper (vipera aspis) about a foot long, sleeping between the board and turf Exit stage left!!! That would explain the strange smell drifting up from the south-west this afternoon
  22. When I was in my teens I kept two ferrets and fed them on offal from the butchers in addition to rabbit offal and what ever birds I'd shot. Talk about stink! Now you see the pet ones that have been fed a balanced diet living in the house. Totally different concept these days.
  23. Depends on how and why you shoot IMO. If you are doing it purely to clear vermin then I would argue that you have a duty to employ the most efficient method, i.e. the one that results in the biggest bag. That is what the farmer would expect. But if you aren't under that sort of obligation then you can choose the method that you enjoy most. In the last few years before I came over here I was lucky enough to have the run of three farms on our shoot. The shoot is run by a very good friend of mine. I'd put the time in to clear pigeons as and when needed, take squirrels off the feeders and do s
  24. Unless you are butchering the birds yourself and feeding the meat after checking it for shot it might be an idea to specify "shot with non-toxic" ammo'. Lead shot if ingested will not do the ferrets a lot of good.
  25. Another air rifle tip I'd like to share with you is when you are walking through the woods and see a squirrel running away ahead of you. Invariably the squizzer goes round the back of the tree, but if you quietly carry on until you are within range and sit down with your back to a tree trunk you can often see the squirrel peeping at you in the crown of the tree. All you will see is its eye and a bit of the top of its head. Just enough to shoot it if you are accurate enough and move slowly and smoothly. If the squizzer isn't in the crown it may be a little higher in a fork, but in my experience
