Looks like construction in UK has closed down for initially 2 weeks. It was difficult last week. I know that it has been difficult for everyone. Some of our projects had shut down, refurb/improvement works on manufacturing sites. The lads get full pay if stood down. Construction sites still open. Difficult to keep moral up when people are seriously worried but cannot afford to not turn in if the site is open. We owe a dept and huge respect to the people still carrying out the real essential work.

I was looking through some old EDRD mags for some pics I remember of Ward's quality working Lakelands to post on another thread and came across this. As the dog has been mentioned on this thread thought it may be of sleight interest. It may seem a little sad posting pics of other people's dogs but it's March, pubs shut and no football. Getting seriously bored.

Just been to a supermarket that had empty shelves this time last week, looks like the food shortage is over. Quite liking the 2m social distance thing, maybe we could start applying it to vehicles on the road?

Never seen so many people out walking. Lots of them are fat arsed f#ckas well. Probably the twats who've been clearing shelves before I've had a chance to buy anything. c**ts!

A few years back got a call from a farmer middle of summer requesting attendance to deal with a mink problem that he was having. Called my hunting partner with the intention of going up with what was available, a Russell dog and bitch of mine and a Russell dog of his. He said a work mate had a young Ward bred dog and had been asking to come out and this would an ideal introduction for it. I was expecting a classy red Lakeland. Turned out to be a lump of a dog resembling a small(ish) black Stafford. The lad assured me that it was from GW. Whether it was or not I have no idea. The day

We also do the shake n vac to put the freshness back

It was chaos last night and early morning today as we thought sites were closing. Then not. Police turned up on 1 large site and suggested it shut down but they don't have authority to do it yet. As it stands most sites still open as it is "essential work" Reminds me of a pit disaster here many years ago, the mine owner said get the ponies out 1st, I can easily replace the boys. Nowts changed.

Corona and animal selling /rehoming

There is no actual food shortage though other than daily short term shortages due to people panic buying and emptying the shelves, that get filled up again, and then emptied again. Sheer stupidity. Surely these idiots will have filled up their freezers and cupboards soon and things will return to normal? Unless those involved in the process of producing and transporting the food start dying. Something I don't believe will happen. -
It doesn't matter what he looks like as long as he's doing what you ask of him and you're both having fun.

I often look on those sites, not that I'm looking for a new dog it's just dog adverts have always been a bit of a strange obsession with me. I have seen those adverts but it is not the prices that puzzle me. A fool and his money and all that. As long as the buyer is purchasing what he wants then that's his business. It's the type of dogs that are now called Jack Russells that I find odd. Many types of terrier have been labelled as such from old type Sealyhams to old type fox terriers and many intermediate sorts which is fine. I've never been of the opinion that a Russell was something "cr

Black family turning red

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was the latest development of the Coronavirus and its effect on the ethnic community. -
Greyman, we call it a belt not a zap :-). I know where you're coming from. Had many a 240V belts and close shaves with 415V and 11,000V but still alive. No need to take the risk these days though. We have safe working practices and risk assessments. People can do whatever they want in their own houses, but the "industry" has moved on. H & S gone mad maybe but part of my job, a part that I take very seriously, is to educate young lads and try and prevent the mistakes that we made through lack of proper training. Asbestos awareness? How many do you know who just reached retirement ag

Two from 35 year ago. They may not look like workers but were. Brought in and bathed in preparation for a show the next day. They weren't happy about the bath but loved the comfort.

Thanks for your feedback Greyman. I will pass it on to our Small Works Department. I have being pushing for reduced rates for OAP's but Commercial say it is not financially feasible as everything is geared towards repeat works these days. ?

I'm sure that the advice given was well intentioned and some tongue in cheek but to elaborate on Wales1234 and fireman's good advice: Typically a domestic property depending on size will have a 32amp power ring downstairs and one up, sockets will be on this. Some power such as a shower will be on a radial, one cable. Typically two 6 or 10 amp lighting circuits, one up one down. When the light switch is in the off position there will still be a permanent live cable at one side of the switch if the circuit is still on. I would advise to never take socket fronts off when the c

Great photograph. Terriers that would not have looked out of place in kennel of workers 150 years ago.

I've only owned one Border and it was only for a few months. Someone asked me to take care of it and as it was not my dog I did not work it. Just gave it a home. But during that time I admired the quality of it. A perfect working terrier in form. A person once attached himself to me and had a dog and bitch Border. The bitch was poor quality but the dog was superb. His name was Paddy but I called him [BANNED TEXT], What's Over There. Always that's how his mind ticked, [BANNED TEXT]. I would estimate his weight at 20lb and height at 15 inch. Too big for a Russell. But a Border is l

Very nice terriers you have there Coursing mad 24. Workers and true to type. Great to see that some Borders can still be both.

At least the breeding would have been kept tight, Noah’s ark tight Sorry... don’t have anything sensible to add but wanted to get notifications for the thread as might be interesting

Everyone of them great photographs. I think people took more time before digital when number of exposures were limited, film was expensive and developing/printing even more so. Love the 1 that looks like EBT pups being handled and the little lad peering out.

Overthinking things possibly. I’m sure you know, try the rifle with whatever pellet you have, put a dot on a potato and place potato at range you will be expecting to be shooting at. If the pellet passes through the potato and within 1/4 inch of the dot then you are good to go ?

It was a MK2 Airsporter S and bought new in mid 1980s, a standard Airsporter again bought new in early 80s but don’t know what MK it would have been. Also used BSA Pylarm and as has been said was same pellet as the Wasp. Whether the pellet produced today with that name is the same I don’t know. They certainly worked well at the time, used for hunting only though.
-
I always used 5.6mm Wasps in Airsporter and S. Suited them perfectly but was not recently.

Terrier work in the USA - Photos and Stories.
eastcoast replied to SheepChaser's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I can’t remember Daniel cain Can’t find the book so assume it’s another one I lent out and never got back. But that statement is something that rang true and I have always remembered. My quote may not be 100% correct but it was more or less correct. -

“ a working terrier is the only animal that will continually seek out environments and situations that it knows from past experience are in conducive to its own survival “ ...well some will. From some book I read years ago on foxes by an animal behavioural psychologist. Just one man’s opinion of course.
