    Playing Devil's Advocate sort of here, nothing wrong with putting a terrier into a show but sometimes people took it serious and wanted to win . Maybe shrouded their judgement in dogs that were bred from or bought in ? And once a successful show winning line is established other people want to join the party and are willing to pay the membership fee. Having said that I see terrier pups for sale now on internet sites for money that at one time would be potential Great Yorkshire show winners that would not win a waggiest tale class.

    There is so much hypocrisy and genuine denial in the working dog world in regard to how much a dog's appearance plays in the type that we choose to keep. Even if showing them is the furthest thing from a person's mind the dogs that a person chooses to keep, the animals that you live with and see everyday is a type that you like the look of. What a dog looks like is probably only not important to workers of working sheep dogs and guide dogs.

    Also the trait of refusing to obey commands. I once thought that if a dog does not do what is asked then the fault is with the owner by failing to communicate to the dog. Dogs will do what they are told to do and are happy to do it once the owner/trainer manages to communicate. Which is true. It is so easy to train dogs, even those that others have gave up on. But there are some terriers that will never accept a man as their master and at best they will regard you as their best mate.     Seems as though you have a "special" one there Aussie Whip. A terrier that has the typical working terrier traits of drive, intelligence , energy and gameness but in excess of the normal ones. A terrier that will test you as much as you test it. Treasure it while you can, when those flames burn brightly, Sod's Law, they tend not to burn very long.

    Lakelands and Russells were the most popular working types in NE England at one time. Terriers that were bred for work but also of a type that would get placed at shows during summer months. I met up with a lad who I hadn't seen for about 20 years recently and he still keeps that same type of Lakeland but admitted that they don't get the same type and amount of work that we once gave them. More to do with not having the same enthusiasm these days and present laws rather than the dogs not being capable.

    I wish cyclists would show the same levels of consideration to pedestrians on footpaths as they expect and get, by me anyway , from motorists when they are on the roads. Not a joke I know but they really piss me off.

    I was given this a few year ago and always had to swerve questions about what I thought of it, as I hadn't read it until today. Good read for people of a football or northern persuasion. Confirmation that apathy, lack of ambition and greed are not new things in the world of football in regard to those who control the clubs.     Not sure what one that was but they seem to kick off every now and again. Using their strengths and never use teeth. Should never be in cages. But then again I think the same rules should apply to rabbits and budgies.

    Yep tradigides have happened with captive whales, and you can't really blame them. Can't think of more cruel thing to do to a wild animal than keep it locked up.

Haven't seen so many people walking dogs or so much dog shit around than there is at the moment. Where did these people "exercise " their dogs before this started?     It has gone crazy on dog for sale sites since the present situation started. I do often look on these sites, not that I'm after a dog just probably a bit weird. I like looking at dog for sale adverts dating back to Exchange and Mart days. Prices have doubled and tripled in the last few weeks. There was a very ordinary looking adult Russell bitch with no mention of work on P4homes yesterday for £1,200. Not on today so may have been sold? Today a litter of Russell pups £1,600, not KC. Crazy money for any dogs , insane money for ordinary pet dogs.

    Seems like a legitimate question to me. Is adding other blood to greyhounds and whippets in order to produce something more robust than the pure sighthound not one of the fundamental reasons for creating lurchers in 1st place?

    One worth getting in the present for the future for a person who has somewhere to store one is the Alfa Brera I think. The only car that I wanted and could afford but never got around to buying. Came close twice. 1st time test drove one and a Mazda RX8 but the Mazda won hands down. The next time was a choice between the Alfa and Mk2 Audi TT, once again the Alfa lost out. The reason being, apart from build quality issues is that they handle like a canal boat.
