As opposed to the immigrants and home grown scum whom the tax payer pays to sit on their arse. I know who I'd rather have.

I think what people have to realise here is, this isn't lurcher work/potfilling. We're talking here competative, hare coursing it is more akin to greyhound racing than true lurchering, in fact any dog capable of winning a meet to my mind isn't a lurcher, so all this shit it's a working mans sport ruined by money doesn't hold water. the worlds changed,. If I had a quality bitch, I wouldn't think twice about paying good money for the right dog and if your serious about your sport how can a stud fee the equivilant of a pet dog be too much ?. To the guy that says your bitch might only have one

I'll stand on what I said, if you can find two grand to repair your car you can (or should) be able to pay your own fecking vet bill. To my mind the difference here is there isn't a charity that does car repairs whilst there is one that repairs dogs. If the guy is nothing else he is a raging hypocrite to lambast the RSPCA and then go cap in hand for treatment for his dog.

the business is doing fine but it is our sole income, and as we are also home educating the kids theres just not enough hours in the day.i did not start this post for sympathy iwas just sharing my dismay at a charity that prroclaims that it helps all and sundry in need with a sick animal only for them to turn an injured animal away.yes cash is tight as we have just had to spend £2000.00 on car repairs ,well actually £1000.00 for one garage to fcuk the job up and another for a good garage to put it right! and its been a long time since i did as little as 12hour day,or for that matter only 6

In an ideal world that wouldnt be a problem, like i said before, things happen in life that we have no control over. I have vetted homes for the Staffordshire bullterrier rescue, and my findings were, that of the people with there insurence policies and axminster rugs usually turned out to be the ones who let the dog down in the end, the guys whom may rely on charity once in a while were the ones who l;oved and devoted there lives to the dogs. ATB D (a man whom has swallowed his pride for the love of his dog) No offence mate, but I'll say it as I see it, anyone who has to rely o

Politics and hidden agendas of animal charities aside, it's your dog, if you can't afford veterinary treatment without relying on the pdsa, then maybe you shouldn't have one. Or here's a thought, insurance, what does it cost, 12-15 quid a month, they're your dogs therefore your responsibility.

I f that's genuinely the case mate then in the long run you would be cheaper just buying a silver kit in, or who knows, perhaps someone on here would give you one FOC to stop another uneeded litter.

After reading that I wouldn't worry too much about the colour as long as it's snipped.

Might have seen a shore but I'd be well surprised if it's ever seen a goose.

Optimus, those photos bring back some memories mate, I knew the guy on the right hand side (picture of three) with the Paddy dog and that guy behind the woman with the gsd cross, is that Stephen Gilmour ?. Enjoying your photos mate.

Firstly Whin, I'm not knocking the field trials or the guys who competed. The point I was making was that obedience in itself does not maketh the dog without experience and exposure to game then you simply have an obedient dog. I'm also fully aware why the field trials were there to show lurcher ownership in a better light and detract from some of the unsavoury tales surrounding lurchers. Very commendable. I just checked it was Blairgowrie and was Sat 21st Nov 92. I actually can recall a few of the dogs, but I'll make only one final observation as this could run forever, concentrating on th

To my mind a high level of obedience is a must in a lurcher and I do mean lurcher not simply a dog that chases game, in fact the ability to control your dog can be the difference of a good dog and a great dog. That said however obedience isn't a great thing without fieldcraft or exposure to game and hunting in general and a well trained obedient dog won't automatically be a good pot filler if it looks to its owner all the time and doesn't think for itself. Years ago approximately 1992 I attended the lurcher field trials in Blairgowrie (I think) and watched nine dogs, three from Scotland, En

No offence mate but that to my mind is part of the problem, you've never seen or chased one but your voicing an opinion on what ?. Pure speculation. I posted on the other thread regarding dogs taking red deer stags and I'll say again, I had dogs that took fallow bucks, sika stags and red deer hinds and the same dogs couldn't slow a red stag down never mind render it buggered. As a ghillie I weighed red stags in at parlour weight (gralloched) around the twenty to twenty two stone mark, add the guts and your up at twenty four to twenty six stone, these were hill stags, I'm reliably informed fa

That dog in front would have bother getting in my front door never mind anywhere else.

Ideal ferret food mate, never heard of a ferret refusing meat of any kind, and if you worried about mites and the like you.d feed them bugger all but the dry shit .
-
I think that's very likely what they mean mate, regarding people playing into their hands, well in thirty five years of hunting in one form or another I've never known as many fukwits in the game as there seems to be now.

please can I come and shoot you????

What would be the advantage of putting greyhound into a gundog?........... A more versatile athletis animal perhaps, now if I had a pound for every time I seen labs etc have gates opened for them or be lifted over a fence I'd be a rich man for sure. back to these shit dogs that you have seen again mate.....6 bar gate no problem here.... But stop and think , the question is basically about lurchers versus gundogs (simplified I know) your comparing them to your labs, might anyone else be (me) comparing their lurchers to the labs they've seen. Answer honestly how many sh

I wouldn't tag myself as a good gundog trainer as i am learning myself. Luckily i have a very good dog in the kennel which must be 75% in the dog and i've added my 25% too training. I would love to have a running dog and i'm sure 1 day i will, i would like to think i could install some training into it and be very interested to see the outcome............ Get a well bred collie x, you might get a pleasant surprise.

On an added note most people reading this when thinking gundogs are visualising the old tried and tested breeds IE, lab, cocker, springer etc, lets throw it open a bit wider, weimaraners, vislas, clumbers, gordon setters irish setters and now tell me a well bred, well reared lurcher trained by a knowledgable owner isn't capable of holding it's own. If we are to consider all types/breeds of lurcher then it's only fair to compare them to all types of gundog.
