  1. my guess and its only a guess is it ,s more down to the ground than the rabbit after all the stock you have in oz came from this country we rabbit on softer ground that favour,s the dog that said you get a run on a well kept golf course when there.s been no rain and they take a fair bit of catching
  2. as sirblessed say,s if you can drive to you,re sets quickset is best but if like me you have to carry every thing from bury to bury i ,d go for a couple of traditional 25 yarder,s
  3. Just seen on FB some one looking for greyhound ferrets do they exist any more not seen one since the 70s ?
  4. the problem i see with having a unmated jill in the same cage is if she starts stealing kits she will not have milk to feed them and they starve in the past i tried keeping two jills with kits together it does not work for me each jill will spend to much time stealing the others kits and getting stressed
  5. Sirblessed here in the UK thousands upon thousands of kits will be born this season and as you say its a lottery as to what you get its taken me at least ten years to get to where i am now and i think i have a half decent strain that i try to improve on each year the rubbish that i had to go through to get what i have now beggers belief if i had the chance all those years ago to buy kits from a good working strain for top dollar you bet your life i would have
  6. ferrets have always been under valved but trying to sell them for they,re true worth sounds like a recipe for disaster to me if you have a good working strain breed for you,re self gift a few to friends who will return the favour at a later date any that are left then a tenner for will do me
  7. I have painted the floors of my hutches for years with bitumen paint and the sides with white gloss and have been well happy with the results but i must admit i,m liking the fibre glass idea

  11. i paint the floor of my hutches with bitumen paint i also have a spare cage once a month i swap ferrets over give the used cage a good scrub out my nest boxes are made separate and placed in the cage i find this makes cleaning easier
  12. wash you hands with teatree soap before handling ferret they soon stop biting after getting the taste
  13. i like to use 25 yard nets on hedge rows with a few stop nets running through the hedge as you work up the hedge lift the first net and put it in front of the last net if there are a lot of holes and you dont have enough purses nets to cover all the holes cover a hole then miss a hole this will stop hole hoping

  22. with out knowing the entire breeding of a ferret its down to guess work i have a polecat hob from a long line of polecats but he all ways throws the odd albino which tells me back in his line there are whites
  23. i have a half cross with a litter of 9 kits to a polecat ferret that i am hoping will do the job they are a lot fitter and healthier fat as mud with lovely coats the idea was to improve my strain which i think i have the half cross jill looks like she could win a show the shine on her coat where as my normal jill looks like a rescue job so ive got the hybrid vigor the proof now will be when i try to work them
  24. the two biggest litter i,ve had was by 2 litter sisters in the 80s they had 15 each and reared the lot this year i have 2 litters of 9 and 10 which is quite rare for me as most years i have litters of 5 or 6
