thats a 410..........20g and 12g are bigger....and noisier...........and mine is fantastically quiet with subsonics....but as stated they dont do BB in subsonics........to be humane and fair to the fox BB is what you should be using My hushpower does quieten normal cartridges but not sufficently for what the original poster requested, urban foxes near houses.......a normal BB cart will still be heard
-
my hob ferret eats an entire wong in about half an hour....i sat and watched him with a raw fresh wing earlier today, he laid like a dog with a bone and ate the entire thing I cant imagine any being left in an hours time let alone at the end of the day OR NEXT MORNING
-
where abouts are you? do you intend to bait an area and then have a go at shooting them? If not too far i could come and help you with mine.....
-
or you could try loading some cartridges, subsonic powder and BB's................. To be honest using normal cartridges in my hushpower does quieten them slightly .......but they are still loud.....where as the subsonic cartridges that i use for rabbits and pigeons and it is practically silent If you know anyone who home loads, ask if they could assist loading some subsonic cartridges with BB shot
-
that makes sense but the suitable cartridges are not subsonic so will nulify the silencing effect and will be nearly as loud as when shot out of a normal gun
-
I have a hushpower 12g.........shot a fair few rabbits, pigeons squirrels and a fox with mine..........i use the subsonic cartridges for normal shooting but always carry a few heavy cartridges in case a fox or anything else crosses my path then a quick change and use the gun you are carrying.......obviously not as quiet as shooting rabbits with the subsonic's but the fox was just as dead.....that was 42gm of Hull BB ................ But if you are only shooting foxes you will need to mainly be using heavy loads that are not subsonic and so you would be better with a normal and cheaper shot

I think ferret100's ferrets bore the rabbits to death

Its been up in my garden about 4 years and has some signs of use but is still useable. Whats the gun, make model etc....? interested in a swap but yo

last night a quick walk around -
i need a 3 gun cabinet and a hushpower 410
COMPO replied to stroller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
why the 410 hushpower? I have and love my 12g baikal hushpower.....there is a few on guntrader.....including a 12g for £185 they tend to hold there value and are usually around £300 (there are a few 410s for that and above) I think someone doesn't realise what they have and haven't listed it on guntrader with the other silenced shotguns......its just in amongst the normal single barreled guns.......a bargain for someone (and 12g would allow a wider variety of cartridges) if i hadn't paid £380 for mine last year i would be buying this one http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/11022215045 -
It must have been a while since you bought any........what did you pay last time? my gunsmith said to me, there are no cheap cartridges anymore when i asked for some cheap pigeon carts.......... Lead and copper prices have shot through the roof in the last year have you looked at just cartridges?

What do you keep your licences & permission slips
COMPO replied to halloween man's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
MY SGC lives in my gunslip......wherever that is is where my certificate is.......and that only leaves the house with a shotgun in it I have been stopped by the police, the week after the cumbrian shootings.......some old fella saw me going into woodland i have permission on......you would have thought that the fact i knew the code to the combination padlock would have indicated i am allowed in there anyway he gave my car reg to teh police, they then used the details from me being the registered keeper and did a police national computer check (everyone that has a sgc or fac is on there -
a plastic decoy magpie can work.....if some egg shells are placed in front of it to make it look like its found a nest.....also heard that rattling a box of matches works....never had success with that but have shot a few to teh decoy (that was set out on teh edge of a decoy pattern of pigeon decoys)

I take it that you mean 15 yards? and also (sorry if no brainer) I take it that subs need a lot more lead then the normal carts, because part of the reason that I use my 410 as much as I do is to practice judging lead and everything because the 12b doesn't come out as much as Id like it to and most of the shots are at 30 yard woodies going pretty fast so I really need a quick cartridge atb yeah probably yards....i am crap at judging distance......point was i was hitting them nearer than i normally do and was breaking the clays in half or taking chunks out rather than vaporising them as
-
AS ABOVE YOU NEED A FIREARMS CERTIFICATE AND NEED A SHOTGUN LISTED ON THE FAC
-
excellent i think the main advantage of the 12g though is the cost of cartridges......i noticed last night that the subsonic cartridges really take a bit to start to spread, i broke a few clays at about 15feet away and was literally snapping them in half.....the only thing i could think was that the shot hadn't spread properly and was still effectivley a ball of lead hitting the clay??
-
me this evening with my hushpower baikal 12g........ i actually beat my son at clays this evening (which is rare)
-
You might use normal cartridges as they are cheaper and also because they offer a better choice in shot sizes etc......the only subsonics i have been able to buy are 28gm number 7.5's for my 12g........i know they also do 32gm of number 6's in a subsonic cart (i am hoping to order 250 of them tomorrow) but i sometimes need and use, number 4's number 5's, bb's and AAA's......they all go through my moderated 12g and are quieter than when shot through an unmoderated gun, but no where near as quiet as the sub's
-
Yes it doe's mate subsonic means they travel slower than the speed of sound, hence less noise. Sounds a bit like a plank of wood falling over. I use mine on ground where there are Cattle, horses and houses nearby and i have had no complaints up to yet. No sorry i didnt make that clear, i know what subs are I just meant whether the hushpower makes much difference to noise levels of normal carts YES......quieter than in a normal gun but not as quiet as subsonic carts........i sometimes use eley standard 2.5inch pigeon carts and they are not much louder (but are louder)
-
I have a baikal 12g hushpower.........i bought it as i hate wearing ear defenders, also have shooting on and near horse land and i found that one bang from a normal shotgun and everything within a mile had left before i got there to shoot it (or at it) , yes perfectly safe to use without hearing defence (well the single barreled baikal is as thats what i have) It does quieten normal cartridges, but is very very quiet with subsonic/hushpower carts, i have put all sorts of 12g carts through mine and it works with them all, from SG - pigeon loads I had a moment once with mine whilst cla
